Russia Terminates Black Sea Grain Deal, Wheat Prices Spike, As Extent Of Crimea Bridge Terrorist Attack Revealed

Via ZeroHedge

Wheat prices jumped as much as 3.5% as news broke Monday that Russia let the UN-brokered grain deal lapse at midnight, Istanbul time, marking the end of the Turkey-administered humanitarian corridor which let Ukrainian grains get exported to global markets. Russia since confirmed the deal has been “terminated”.

What was formally called the Black Sea Grain Initiative had already been extended for multiple short increments since its implementation in July 2022. The Kremlin confirmed in a statement by Dmitry Peskov: “The Black Sea agreements ceased to be valid today. As the President of the Russian Federation said earlier, the deadline is July 17.”

“Unfortunately, the part relating to Russia in this Black Sea agreement has not been implemented so far. Therefore, its effect is terminated,” the presidential spokesman continued. Ultimately this will put much more pressure on Kiev, already in the midst of a failing counteroffensive, which is likely Russia’s strategic purpose in suspending the deal.

But Peskov suggested it could be reimplemented if Russia’s conditions for resumption are met, namely the country’s ability to export its own foodstuffs safely, after Moscow has long voiced its objections, which has included blaming the Ukrainians for placing naval mines in the Black Sea corridor.

“As soon as the Russian part is completed, the Russian side will return to the implementation of this deal immediately,” Peskov said. He further described the agreement as having “been de facto stopped” – again suggesting the possibility of a speedy resumption following negotiations that would address Russia’s concerns.

Currently there’s speculation that the fresh attack on the Crimean Bridge (also known as the Kerch Strait Bridge) was a last straw, but Moscow is downplaying the connection. The Washington Post writes Monday morning:

Ukraine’s military and security services were responsible for the attack on a key bridge that connects the Crimean peninsula to the Russian region of Krasnodar, a Ukrainian official said Monday. Ukraine used sea surface drones to attack the bridge — an important supply artery for Russia’s war in Ukraine — the official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of military operations. On Monday, the Kremlin said the grain deal, which allowed Ukrainian grain to be shipped from Black Sea ports despite wartime hostilities, is “being terminated” until Russia’s demands are met.

However, Peskov noted that Russia’s willingness to pull out of the grain deal initiative was communicated prior to the attack, which reportedly killed two civilians and suspended bridge traffic. Russia has denounced the “terrorist attack”.

The White House reaction has been to say that Moscow has been using the grain deal as “a weapon” – as stated by Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Putin for his part has complained that food exports have not been going to countries which are most in need, in Africa and the Middle East, but instead to Kiev’s preferred Western partners in Europe who are busy supplying battlefield arms.

China reacted later in the day Monday…

Moscow has the two killed in the overnight Crimea Bridge attack involved a Russian family traveling on vacation whose vehicle was destroyed. A statement further alleged assistance to Ukrainian forces by the US and UK.

“This regime [the Ukrainian government] is terrorist and has all the hallmarks of an international organized crime group,” foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a written statement. “Ukrainian officials and military personnel take those decisions with direct input from American and British special services and politicians. The US and Britain are managing a state-like terrorist structure,” it said.

I fucking hate Springsteen. I’ll never forget that commercial in the Super Bowl in 2021, which as usual I didn’t watch, but tuned in for 5 minutes. Something about America coming together in the middle. I didn’t even vote for Trump in 2020, but it was obvious that the Dems rigged the election. And here comes ol’ Bruce driving some old pickup to a chapel in Kansas or somewhere, wearing work boots and a jean jacket. Like that guy’s ever done physical work in his life. Phony ass piece of shit midget doing his Woody Guthrie schtick while his daughter does horse dressage in Europe. He sells out the blue collar guys he supposedly represents to allow illegal aliens to take what’s left of the jobs that haven’t been shipped overseas. This is a guy who cancelled his shows in North Carolina after they passed a law banning men dressed like ladies from using the girls’ bathroom. Just another commie dressing up like a farmer, like MN Governor Tim Walz or Sen Jon Tester of Montana. To fall for that shit you gotta be as dumb as Chris Christie.

Now look what you did. You made me go off on a tangent just by mentioning that midget.

As Russia intercepts another US drone over Syria, official warns ‘triumvirate’ with Iran to force US out

Alongside yet another intercept of a US drone flight today, the Russian military also conducted a reconnaissance mission over the American garrison at al-Tanf in Syria, moves that a senior defense official said represent a “triumvirate” between the Russian, Syrian and Iranian governments to push the US military out of Syria…

Russian activity against the United States in Syria — where American troops are still fighting the remnants of the Islamic State (ISIS) — has ramped up since March, the official observed, most recently culminating in three separate incidents of Russian fighter jets harassing US drone flights last week.

“My assessment, and we have some evidence to support this, is that as Russia and Iran have pulled themselves closer together, that there is interest on both sides to push us out of Syria, to put a pressure campaign on us to have us leave,” the official said, pointing to the drone intercepts as a key example.

We destroyed Syria. Recall how Hitlery was responsible for hiring mercenaries who became ISIS in Libya to attack Syria? Aleppo, home to one of the world’s greatest medical schools and universities is a pile of gravel today. Benghazi happened because Hitlery stiffed the mercs working for the State Dept. That filthy bitch is one of the greatest war criminals in history. Justice would involve the skank being dumped naked on a tarmac in Tripoli or Damascus and let them get justice their way.

The Incredible Shrinking NATO

So, what did the Ukrainians do to raise the ire of the Pentagon so suddenly, and as a direct consequence, fall into disfavor with NATO? In short, the Ukrainians demonstrated that NATO’s weapons are crap.

I’ve been waiting for the hubbub to die down since the NATO conference in Vilnius, Lithuania, on 11-12 July 2023, waiting for someone — anyone — to point out the obvious reason for why the Ukraine’s cocaine-sniffing mascot-president Zelensky, having been lionized only a year ago, has suddenly fallen into disfavor with this organization…

So, what was NATO’s real purpose? There are many ways to answer this question, but the Ukraine’s sudden fall from grace offers what is perhaps the most graphic explanation.

• Was it that the war there was dragging on? No, a slow burn would be exactly what the Pentagon ordered, so that it would have a chance to keep up with Russia’s hectic pace of weapons and ammunition deliveries.

• Was it that the Ukraine was losing the war? No, the Ukraine wasn’t losing; it just wasn’t winning. In particular, its attacks on Russia’s defensive lines, which the Russian troops termed “meat attacks” because of the huge and useless losses they incurred on the Ukrainian side, seemed rather futile.

• Was it that the Ukraine was about to be defeated? Again, no, the Russians were happy to advance a few kilometers here and there, with their main objective the establishment of a buffer zone wide enough so that Ukrainian artillery would stop shelling what are now Russian civilian districts.

• Was it that NATO ran out of weapons and ammo to give to the Ukrainians? Again, no, there is still quite a lot of semi-obsolete junk that could be handed over to the Ukrainians.

So, what did the Ukrainians do to raise the ire of the Pentagon so suddenly, and as a direct consequence, fall into disfavor with NATO? In short, the Ukrainians demonstrated that NATO’s weapons are crap. Evidence of this built up slowly over time. First, it turned out that various bits of US-made shoulder-fired junk — anti-aircraft Stingers, anti-tank Javelins, etc — are rather worse than useless in modern combat. Next, it turned out that the M777 howitzer and the HIMARS rocket complex are rather fragile and aren’t field-maintainable.

The next wonder-weapon thrown at the Ukrainian problem was the Patriot missile battery. It was deployed near Kiev and the Russians quickly made a joke of it. They attacked it with their super-cheap Geranium 2 “flying moped” drones, causing it to turn on its active radar, thereby unmasking its position, and then fire off its entire load of rockets — a million dollars’ worth! — after which point it just sat there, unmasked and defenseless, and was taken out by a single Russian precision rocket strike.

When the enemy is goat humpers in the hills all our precision missiles and drones etc are great. Up against a peer military which has such weapons, pretty much everything we did the last 20 years provides no template.

Russia grows and exports more grain than the Ukraine. If the West’s hissy fit were really about people starving, they’d allow Russian grain to be sold freely.

I looked at 2020, Russia might grow more, but they exported about the same. Putin pays the same lip service as the West
“Putin for his part has complained that food exports have not been going to countries which are most in need, in Africa and the Middle East”

Ukraine and Russia both sell wheat to mostly non-European countries.

There are definitely some strategies involved on both sides, especially the Russian side, that I don’t understand yet. Russia could have taken out Ukraine in a week if they had wanted to. But both sides appear to be intent on slow rolling the whole operation for some reason. Much of it is definitely a psyop, but I don’t know if both sides are colluding together on one psyop, or if each side is running its own separate psyop.

Since this is the second time the bridge has been hit, I wonder if Putin is considering stopping nat gas deliveries to Europe? To prevent a Nordstream situation and environmental catastrophe. Can’t be too careful, you know.
Even if he has no plans to do so, Putin should remind the rest of Europe that he can do so at any time.

BTW, I think downing an AWAC would be a good play.

There is little the West could do about it. Pretty tough to claim they were “innocent bystanders” flying a military plane a few dozen miles off the battle lines, 8000 miles from the USA.

After the first one fell, I doubt any more would be sent. Pick off the drones too.
