RIP TONY BENNETT

My parents saw Tony Bennett at the Bolero in Wildwood in 1957. The Bolero is still there, but sadly my dad and Tony are no longer here. Tony always struck me as a decent human being. RIP.

RIP. I always liked his voice better than Sinatra’s and he seemed like a way better guy.

Totally agree with that sentiment. It is just my opinion but, my all time favorite of Mr. Bennett’s songs was/is “Rags to Riches”.
Are there some songs that just make your eyes well-up a little? It is probably just nostalgia in my case.
The man had one heck of a set of pipes.
Sometimes I think we are seeing the last fragments of Fantasia eroding to the last gain of sand.

Greatest man’s voice to ever grace a microphone, live stage, record, CD or radio wave.

Tony is making the angels swoon now.

95. Likely not, but who knows if it contributed. He might have made it to 100 or more.

He was also quite a painter in oils. A true artist.

BTW, I wonder what Newsome feels when he hears the San Francisco song? Now it’s: I left my turd in San Francisco.

Filippo Benedetto, Tony’s great great great grandfather appeared in Italy circa 1755.

The name Filippo indicates the family may have fled Portugal/Spain earlier, and wound up in Italy.

When searching geneaologies, you often run in to “dead ends” where the family line being researched just ends.
I usually start checking the history of the times and regions where one can deduce quite a bit.

For instance the era the Benedettos appear in Italy, a very large earthquake decimated Lisbon in 1755. A definite cause of refugees fleeing.
So it’s possible the Benedetto family may have come from Portugal circa 1755.
Meaning?
He might not be an eye tie.
He just might be a curley haired descendant of Sephardics.

Another amazing voice that has been removed from our presence. At least he lived a long life and was quite happy through most of it.

I’ve always been a big fan.
In the 90s, I was a theatre prop guy in Toronto. I was making a delivery to the Ford Centre and noticed an older fellow with a record sitting alone outside the stage door. He told me Tony Bennett was going to perform that night and hoped for an autograph.
I went in and saw that Tony B was already inside. I was able to say hello and shake his hand. I mentioned his fan waiting outside. He smiled and excused himself and went outside. I went back to my van and watched him sign the album and then sit down with his long time fan. I swear they chatted away for about ten minutes. They both looked so happy. I caught hell for being late on my next delivery but I just had to watch them.
He was just so much more than a truly great singer.
God bless, Tony.
