There is plenty of evidence from newspaper and journals from the 1800’s that triple digit heat in the summer that lasted for days or weeks some years was normal. But we won’t look there, now will we?
As an example, Kansas lost 2/3rds of it’s population in the late 1850’s because of an extended drought and heat waves.
