This is what’s happened to me over the past three months.

My crime was making videos critical of the West and their proxy regime in Kiev—and how they are destroying Ukraine.

As you can see, even the prosecutor admits I committed no crime against property or any person. And I certainly provided no aid or intelligence to the Russians.

In fact, I was blocked from calling anyone—even my lawyers. And I was not permitted to post bail—though I had the cash to do so.

From 1pm on June 21 until 7pm the next day—30 hours—I was beaten and sleep deprived, my arms twisted the wrong way around at the shoulders, and generally beaten pretty bad.

Because you’re thinking too locally. Sure, not being murdered is nice, but it’s also useful to demonstrate truth. Gonzalo is doing what he can to prove Ukraine is totalitarian and undemocratic, and we need more of that, not less. If people like Gonzalo were more common we wouldn’t have our current problems, which are largely caused by everyone keeping their head down and concerning themselves only with their own immediate survival/comfort.
I wouldn’t go so far as to claim that Gonzalo’s actions were optimal, or even that they did anything at all. However, he made the best plan he could, and attempted to end a war with it, and if a few things were different, he could have averted nuclear annihilation. If that level of honor isn’t worth any respect, then honor is worthless and you might as well just side with the leftists and the warmongers, because the tealeaves are on their side.
