Good song, Suds. First trip to SFO was in the mid 70’s and was disappointed that the Haight Ashbury district had lost the hippy vibe I had hoped to see. At the time, it was the most beautiful city I had visited and I went back often for about 15 years. Hal Holbrook was the Lt. in Magnum Force. He was quite an accomplished actor and did a great job as Mark Twain in a one man show. Early in the movie a cameo by Suzanne Somers (Bimbo in Three’s Company) as the topless girl in the pool who caught a round center mass.
Pushing the female onto Harry as a partner to promote DIEversity was a sign of things to come albeit 50 years ago. I guess they had a plan all along and we are reaping the “benefits” of their plan today.
Being a partner with Harry had as much longevity as being a lover of Bond, James Bond.
My very first memory of television was my father waking me up and bringing me into the living room to watch Hal Holbrooke in Mark Twain Tonight on PBS, maybe 1965. It was in black and white and the screen was maybe 10 inches across, but it had a profound impact on me. Saw him do it live a few times at McCarter theater in Princeton over the years too. Took my father with me every time.

My first memory of TV was Broderick Crawford saying 10-4 on Highway Patrol in the mid 50’s. I envy you that you got to see Hal performing Mark Twain live. I enjoyed the TV performance a lot.

I saw MARK TWAIN TONIGHT live as well. Still the best one man show ever IMHO. Hal Holbrook was superb.
During my prime juggling years in SF, I got to meet and hang out with Clint when he was shooting ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ. His next movie was BRONCO BILLY about an aging Wild West Show. It featured an antique truck. I was performing on a gorgeous Model A flatbed that I had restored myself. I was performing at Pier 39 shortly after it had just opened and he told security that he would like to meet me. After my show (he stayed in the back unnoticed with one of his young sons – I believe it was Kyle) he introduced himself and we went to a restaurant there and had a great hour or so of rambling conversation. Totally down to earth – no entourage – man.
The scene in one of the DH films with the diversity rep is even better than some of the commenters here have referenced. It is easy to find on Youtube. Not only does he scald the diversity woman he brings a Shetland Pony into the mix.
For those of us who tried to make San Francisco magical in those early days of great street performing, it is a center mass shot to the soul to witness what the Left has done to her.
