It does seem highly unusual for a police officer, detective, captain, lieutenant, or chief to take a higher paying job in a paradise island environment.
That he was the “incident commander” of another event, must be taken in context with what I imagine is not a very large pool of AVAILABLE qualified Police Chief candidates for cities in need.
I would also imagine, being a head honcho in a police department would ensure the intimate involvement with pretty much every large incident or case occuring in the jurisdiction.

If the real estate values on Maui are so high … why would anyone build any sort of a prison there? Seems like a far reach from the typical mantra of ‘highest and best use’ … especially for such a beautiful piece of Paradise.
I don’t think it meant a literal prison, but a smart city / 15 minute city equating as such.
Plus, the third world’s megacities have glass tower billionaires right next to open-sewer favelas.

Just found out that the Police Chief in Lahaina Maui was the same Police Commander in the Las Vegas massacre – he is a Federal Agent with clearances – guess he’s their to help Oprah & Bezos Steal All the land – Governor is in on it too. Oddly enough Not 1 of the rich people’s mansion were close to being burned – how Fortunately Coincidental kinda like the Police Chief. Residents are reporting Realtor & Investor Vultures hounding these poor people to buy their land CHEAP. This was done purposely. Directed Energy Weapons strike with such heat that the interior of buildings disintegrate with everything in them – humans – so expect the “Missing” to be found in piles of ash – needing DNA to identify so the death toll will go way up – but Don’t Worry it’s a “Climate Crisis”. Demonic Bullshit everywhere you turn. Still No FEMA or US Military from Pearl of FJB anywhere to be found. Pray for these poor people who have lost everything except the clothes on their backs. If possible try very local groups to donate to. I’ve been to Lahaina Town & as you would expect the Locals are All Genuinely Friendly, Hospitable, Happy & if you are Gracious – you will treated as Family. This truly is Heartbreaking.
