A few months back some of us, mainly in the South and West, were regretful we could not make it up to HF’s July 4th bash, and suggested those of us down here ought to see about making our own get-together.
Given the state of the State right now (Texas) where I am, which has not seen a raindrop in over a month, there is no way I would throw a party right now. It is so hot outside you can fry an egg on the sidewalk along with hash browns, bacon and toast. Street food is very popular here.
Anyway, with conditions how they are, I would think that early-to-mid October would be an ideal time for a soiree; the temperatures will be in the 70’s, maybe low 80’s at most; and since it is off-season, there will also be plenty of rental lake condos available, if that is what we desired, or whatever ideas you might have. I wish I could invite you all to my house, like HF, but unfortunately I only have 1.5 acres compared to his 100. So we will have to meet at a location upon which we may all agree — and it does not have to be in Texas. If someone has a better place, put it up and let us discuss.
I would love to meet more TBP’ers, as the ones I already met were some truly outstanding people. This site has connected us all; it is fun to be able to have friends across the nation (and indeed the world). We all came here to be around like-minded individuals, and it is very exciting to actually meet such folks, to be able to associate a face to a moniker. Going up to NH was one of the best times of my life; I hope to recreate that same joy in meeting more of you.
So, let us start this discussion! What are your thoughts/feelings/plans? Do you think this is a good idea? Have you talked to your doctor to see if Ozempic is right for you?
Come on, y’all — IT’S PARTY TIME!
Gotta have some party music to go with your post, Captain.
Oh sorry! You DO have music!!
I’m on the road & it didn’t show up when I first looked. Spotty service, I guess.
Look at me trying to tell you what to do & you’re two steps ahead. Lol. 😂
Great thought.
Hurricane days away from this neck of the woods.
Well you are still welcome. And since it’s hurricane season (and it looks like a live one), maybe one of them will push you this way, you never know!
Im in Apalach………….headed right for me.
Where are you ?
So….do great minds think alike?? Or were you eavesdropping?? 😎
Question: Will guns be allowed? I’m not interested in getting shot at.
Abi, this is Texas.
Asking if guns are going to be allowed is like asking will there be air to breathe. 😀
Well, I will certainly be armed…and will have eyes in the back of my head in case anyone is planning to kill me. 😉
Y’all been warned.
I think a location that had an area where we can shoot our guns would be great, and that probably means it would have to be Texas.
Maybe either a farm/ranch, or someone could rent out a range day. They do that at the range I go to up here.
If it’s around here where I am that people decide to have a bash, I can set up targets in my yard, and those with arms can come shoot to their heart’s content.
There’s a military depot not even a mile away, as well as an airport. Gunshots all the time.
The planes fly carefully around here.
Wow, I thought only steers and queers came from Texas.
But I guess now Illegals are the main export.
I wanna go to Austin or Houston to get mugged.
aa,
there are far more guys interested in spanking you then there are guys wanting to shoot you —
😂😂 Oh my gawd!!
Well…it that case, let’s party like rockstars. Lol.
Not only Texas, but you can count on me conceal carrying wherever I go. Not only for a TBP get-together but everywhere, every day.
I’m all ears. Where would a mid point be for us canukistaners? Wyoming??
Texas for me is a good two day drive. I’d bike it but in October, get;n back on a motorcycle would be dodgy at best, mountain passes tend to collect a lot of snow in that timeframe. But then there is a mod I could do for my bike…
I think the mid-point would be about Kansas or Nebraska, neither of which are considered attractive destinations, to me. I’ve been through them. They didn’t impress me much. I drove through both — and a few other states, of course, like lovely Missouri — on my way up to Minneapolis one December (not the best idea, I admit) to visit my Druncle. Made it in 28 hours, no less.
And froze my ass off.
Anyway, as I said, it would be OK (as long as it’s not OK — I’ve been there too; not a fan) if we have this soiree in another state, doesn’t have to be TX. We’ll see what others think.
Or we can have a Canada/Alaska meetup.
Still looking for land and a home/will build workshop/adoption center/foster home for four legged critters/when I do a rock and roll party will be part of the deal, still have mixing board/amps/ monitors ect.,the party will go on!
When you’re set up, I’ll be there with a pair of Full Stacks, (a Bogner Überchschall 120 watt, and a Carvin V3 100 watt), a couple of 1000 watt Bass rigs with 4X10’s and single 18 cabs, (I’m actually a bassist, and like to play in stereo, especially my Ric 4001), a few Les Paul’s and some Vintage Fender basses…… Along with a few Shootin’ Irons in .223, .308, and .45…..
James, what states are you open to? I know of a former one on a couple acres or more that’s totally outfitted for all kinds of animals plus a little makeshift western town and home that is available in Southern Utah.
Another question: Will there be a phyzz check-in station before entering?
I’m sure you could find someone willing to give you a pat search, doll.
But get paid up-front.
Oh my, oh my…see, that’s where I’ll have to pull out my guns. Notice the plural.
I’m envisioning a check-in station equipped with flashlights to look deep into one’s eyes & soul to determine if they’re safe & good people before entry.
I’ll man the booth – I’ve learned a lot from HSF to where I’m practically an expert now.
Not sure, without verification, that you could ‘man’ the booth. Just say’n
If you could man the booth, you’d be at the wrong party.
It’s raining in Gun Barrel City wa who!!
I’m literally just a few miles down the road from you (I almost live in Chandler).
It actually came a good downpour here too. Thank God! Now, of course, the bugs will come out and the grass will turn green again — until next week, when it’s supposed to be back in the 100’s, and all that dies off (till the next rain).
Email me, we’ll hang out sometime!
Know what, you reminded me, maybe The Villages would be a good place for a meet. Holiday Inn owns the resort, and in October I’m sure there will be cabins available.
Hmm.
You are blessed I suppose, it rained about 10 miles from my place . . .
Someone is hinting at having a nice set of guns. The girls?
-But using vigilance, and very cautious vetting, before allowing access to… to um, see them?? Handle them?
Oh the innuendos.
Keep ’em in their holsters in public, as long as the clasp is quickly accessible.
Have long rifle; will travel.
No derringers allowed.
Quick triggers, either.
Lordy, I might have to plan a trip SW, on the premise of being present to reveal the face behind the name(s), and to meet good peeps with common ground.
I like where this is headed.
Wonder if the aforementioned owner of those guns is truly an expert on flirty writing styles.
Hmmmm…Smile.
Jus bein’ playful, for fun.
Tis how I roll at times. No offense.
🤣🤣 Hilarious!
What in the world have I done here?? I’ve inadvertently turned the Captain’s post into a meat market!
Wonder if the aforementioned owner of those guns is truly an expert on flirty writing styles.
Absolutely!! 😘
If anyone wants to discuss plans/options in private, my email is: [email protected]
I forgot to add that.
I’m in. And I’m already in Texas. I won’t tell you where, but it’s a democrap run major city with millions of people. That narrows it down right?
Wifey and I have a few NFA goodies that hogs hate and we don’t get to use them unless we leave the shitty. Who wants to help us make some bacon?
So: Houston or Dallas, huh? LOL
I’m about 3 hours from Houston and 1 from Dallas (where I grew up). And I like it that way.
Come on with those porkers, I need some good, fresh, homegrown meat!
Or Austin.
Auntie would love to visit with the TBP crew out West. Texas being a big place; Amarillo is closest but will consider deep in the Heart of Texas. Auntie being busy the first half of Oct is also a factor.
We can make it a Halloween party, if you’ll come, AA!
And I worked in Amarillo once — (think Joe Piscopo in “Johnny Dangerously”) ONCE. I was living in Plainview at the time; and if ever a town were named ironically, well there it is. Any direction you look, PLAINS. All the bad weather from NM would come through Hobbs, through Plainview and up to Amarillo, which is the worst of all.
So yeah, I’m not going to Amarillo. 🙂
I just brought this up a week or so ago. But even if I only met one or two, it would need to be regional to the Midwest in my instance. Otherwise I’d be quite interested in doing that. And at this stage, it would need to be next year. We’ve had a handful of hot days up here, but not like I’ve been hearing about Texas, especially from Texas Khaan.
I can’t totally say it’s a good idea, since both, it’s been done before and since I just recently brought it up, but I hope anyone who can take advantage of it this fall, will. And perhaps next year if all of us haven’t been murdered, we can try again.
I would like to meet you too, UA, just like many others of you. Part of the reason of having these get-togethers is to show we are still able to set aside all the madness of the world for a while and just have some fun, let everybody know we are a real community of real people who enjoy each others’ company and sharing our lives with the friends we have made — the way it ought to be.
Good friends, good food, happy times — who doesn’t have time for this? Or if not, when will you have time?
When I decided to go to HF’s July 4th bash last year, those were the questions I asked myself before finally realizing, once I got there, it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
I only want other people to know that feeling.
Well, plus the other feeling, of looking somebody you only know from TPB straight in the eye and saying, “Yeah, I’m not fake and gay, bro.”
Wonder how many Anons will be able to say that, “Oh, I’m the real Anonymous. All those other ones are impostors.”
The State Fair of Texas is held in October for good reasons, mainly because the weather usually is decent in north central TX.
That’s a good suggestion, but have you been to the Fair lately?
Good luck with parking and panhandling.
We could still go in a group, and maybe have some fun. It’s another consideration.
I have not been to the fair since the mid 1980’s, being a Dallas native I am all too familiar with the wonders of South Dallas.
How far from Mineola, TX are ya CO?
Right across I-20, practically. 🙂
Cpt O – Pulling something together this fall would be a hard pull, especially people traveling distance. Certainly next year sometime and I’d venture to say it could be early summer or fall, bear the heat. Keep this alive and see what and who turns up, could be a TBP’r out there thats got a chunk of land willing to allow Platformers to get frisky and burn meat over a fire.
If we rate then we’d get the opportunity to smoke out the interlopers, although that wouldn’t be to difficult.
Anybody shows up dressed like that to any party I’m at is not welcome.
If you have to hide your face and bring a police escort, you’re at the wrong party.
Keller, TX here. (Think: Fort Worth)
I’ve been thinking about this, too – Although I’m in the same spot as Capt Obv. No land with which to host.
But, agreed, weather is nice in October. Dallas might be a good spot, in terms of: Ease of access. Super convenient to airport or car arrival. Lots of lodging. We can go see the grassy knoll and the 6th floor museum. Lots of good food and drinking establishments. Fort Worth is a super cool and chill city. We took my son to a racetrack outside of town for his 18th where he could race Porsches and other performance cars.
Also, my little town of Keller has a really cool downtown pub crawl – As far as I know, my wife and I invented it and have perfected it over time.
We have a family trip planned in October – Otherwise, I’ll be there, if the TBP’ers agree to meet in D/FW.
If held in/near a city I personally wouldn’t go. I’m allergic to cities, just say’n
Tim! I’ve been hoping you would see this and speak up; it was you and me, earlier this year, who said we needed to have a meet down here, so I’m seeing if we can make it happen.
I put this out there now so we can discuss it. I figured it was going to be a process. If it just hadn’t been so godawful hot this Summer, I would have tried this months ago.
From what I’m hearing, it seems most people are not going to make it if we have it in October, no matter the weather. Spring has been suggested, but honestly, you know as well as me our Springs around these parts are unpredictable. I’d rather it be Summer or Fall, as we are surer of the climate.
Like I told you, I grew up in DeSoto, lived all over the Metroplex. I know right where you are, though it’s been ages since I’ve been through there. It’s probably all changed (like DeSoto). It would certainly be fun to visit again though.
December is still pretty nice here – Wonder if we could have some kind of TBP Christmas gathering?
I agree that spring weather is unpredictable and can go south in a hurry.
Sounds like fun! We went to HSF’s first get together and had a great time. Haven’t been back since for various reasons, one being it’s a long 2 day drive and flying isn’t an option. I hate the airlines.
We have a trip planned to Gulf Shores in November and we are 8 hours north of Dallas in central Missouri.
Maybe in the spring?
Hi MC, glad you’re doing well, hope the operation was worth it this time and you never have to do it again!
Yes, the travel is always going to be the thing, no matter if we get together down here or up at HF’s. I flew up to NH last year, but I think they’re going for CONVID II: The Sequel this Fall, bringing back their face diapers and such, so there’s no way I’d fly now. Plus the fact it’s more expensive.
I’d love to visit Missouri again. Beautiful country. Had a blast on the Roaring River on a family vacay one time when I was a kid.
We’ll see if we can get up enough interest, then once we have the people we can set a time and place. I just wanted to get this out there so we can start planning!
Again, good to see you’re OK, and that you’re still here. Take care of yourself!
I don’t know exactly where this guy is, in Missouri, but my wife sometimes watches his channel. Maybe either you’re familiar with him or possibly even in his circle somewhere. https://www.youtube.com/@therealpreparedhomestead
Salt Lake City gets decently warm / cool by October, but I only have 1/11 acre in a city lot, so not much I can do for you there. Wyoming sounds like a good suggestion (looking at Evanston, on the western edge, since I buy lottery tickets there) but that might be my self-serving inner nature speaking up. A western meetup would be a good thing and I would like to attend; got some vacation time saved up, not a whole lot of money but some. Might bring the wife but would definitely leave the cat. Any other ideas?
I have lived in SW Idaho for the last 20 years. I have never seen an August so wet. Usually, we’re lucky to get a storm with a few raindrops. This year, we’ve gotten dump after dump. Not that I’m complaining, less I have to water. Still…
And I lose weight the old fashioned way. Weights, cardio, diet. Fuck a bunch of some shot that gives you anal seepage. These days, fuck a bunch of a jab of any kind.
Send some of your excess rain down here, to me and my desiccated neighbors in Comanche County Texas.
