You can’t take the country out of the boy:

I have come around to the realization that even if you take the boy out of the country, you cannot take the country out of the boy, and maybe “separate but equally funded” rather than “all inclusive” is a better way to go. Let people decide for themselves where they want to aggregate and then fund all those areas equally and let the chips fall where they may. Time will tell whether George Floyd Memorial Middle School has the same success rate as the Ben and Miriam Shapiro Montessori Primary School, given that they both had the same amounts to invest in achievement goals. Or in other words, why not place great grandma in the Al Acquasi nursing home staffed by mainly young middle eastern male nurses, or the Queen Latita’s Wakanda Home for Elders and Jewelry Appraisal? We’re all equal right? Or else let your bright and curious minded blond grandson ride the fully integrated bus to a substandard school on the wrong side of the tracks because equality, and what are a few bruises anyway—badges of honor yes? Maxine Waters may live in an upscale white gated community but I’ll bet she’s not invited next door for kringler and gluhwein during the holidays. We like to be around people who are like ourselves, they talk our language, eat our kind of food, wear clothing like us, look like us and behave like us. That’s not to say that we can’t enjoy a meal at a foreign restaurant, or a piece of art or clothing or a game/music played by foreigners, or possibly even hoping their children will be able to play nicely together with ours at a public park. Forced integration (like the oil and water not mixing unless continuous agitation is provided scenario) into unfamiliar and possibly unwelcoming communities only leads to isolation and fear and the integrate-ees become insular within their own little groups. How would an Idaho escapee from California feel if the next door ranch suddenly became a shelter for delinquent black youth from Chicago? They might try to be welcoming but would be uneasy and on high alert all the time. Examples-a Finn may love Japanese culture, move there and learn the language, but his responses to Japanese situations/stimuli will always be Finnish, and the Japanese will never fully trust him as one of their own. Example-Toopiq the intelligent Native American lad wins a scholarship to the Michael Douglas Financial Institute of greed is good. However talented he may be, he will always be seen as not fully “one of us” and his capabilities and opportunities will reflect that, and he may have been better served managing a chain of sweat lodges. Example-Jaquanda from Detroit takes a summer job (naturally a diversity and inclusion hire) at Colonial Williamsburg living history museum, and the first week she is fired for repeatedly lecturing visitors about white privilege and then throwing a major tantrum involving cursing spitting punching and throwing things when she is corrected, to her this would seem to be totally normal behavior where she comes from, but a German visitor would shrink back in horror and vow to never have anything to do with the schwartzers again. Jaquanda later sues the museum for discrimination. It’s interesting to me that when left to their own devices, people naturally segregate themselves to neighborhoods of their own kind where they feel most comfortable, which is why you have Chinatowns and gay/Castro neighborhoods in San Francisco, Amish villages in Pennsylvania, Boston Irish neighborhoods, Italians on Long Island, Germans in North Dakota, and Somali’s in Minnesota. Each group has something to bring to the table, but you cannot expect that the Southern border crossers will want to be, or be able to learn to be, air traffic controllers, port logistics managers, aeronautical engineers or railroad timetable schedulers, but they may be perfectly fine nannies, motel maids, landscapers, fast food and factory workers, and roofers, and that’s ok as long as those are the kind of workers we need and have available housing for. When we have enough it’s time to turn off the tap, otherwise the glass will overflow ie, NYC. Eventually all these groups (after the second generation is American-born) will begin to meld and integrate naturally, but I do thinks it’s a real problem trying to force them right off the boat. A better way might be to do what was done for the DP’s (displaced persons) after WW2, when in order to emigrate to the US for whatever reason, they had to be sponsored by someone, either a relative or a church, that would guarantee them a job and housing, or later, in Asian countries back in the 60’s when they wanted to emigrate, there were “how to be American” classes given in the home country, that taught English language, how to handle American money and make grocery purchases without bargaining, how to dress like Americans, how to operate an American stove, refrigerator, washing machine, how to use the toilet, how to ride the bus, normal societal behaviors like not beating your wife in public, not snatching 11 year old females off the street to rape, not squatting bare breasted in the parking lot or defecating outside. It takes a long time to learn to be American and I am not sure a lot of newcomers are even interested in “taking the country out of the boy”.

One final note, white people seem to be more innately curious and inventive. If you give a Guatemalan or a Haitian a sewing machine, they will make dresses to sell, but if you give a white person a sewing machine, they will go, cool, now let’s see if we can take the treadle off and use it to run something else. Native Americans should be down on their knees burning incense to white people, before we arrived, they neither forged nor smelted metal, had no woven clothing, did not use nails or chisels, and when we generously offered to share with them with all the glories of our modern technologies, it turns out all they really wanted was the white man’s firewater and thundersticks.
