THIS DAY IN HISTORY – The Blitz begins as Germany bombs London – 1940

Via History.com

On September 7, 1940, 300 German bombers raid London, in the first of 57 consecutive nights of bombing. This bombing “blitzkrieg” (lightning war) would continue until May 1941.

After the successful occupation of France, it was only a matter of time before the Germans turned their sights across the Channel to England. Hitler wanted a submissive, neutralized Britain so that he could concentrate on his plans for the East, namely the land invasion of the Soviet Union, without interference. Since June, English vessels in the Channel had been attacked and aerial battles had been fought over Britain, as Germany attempted to wear down the Royal Air Force in anticipation of a land invasion. But with Germany failing to cripple Britain’s air power, especially in the Battle of Britain, Hitler changed strategies. A land invasion was now ruled out as unrealistic; instead Hitler chose sheer terror as his weapon of choice.

British intelligence had had an inkling of the coming bombardment. Evidence of the large-scale movement of German barges in the Channel and the interrogation of German spies had led them to the correct conclusion-unfortunately, it was just as the London docks were suffering the onslaught of Day One of the Blitz. By the end of the day, German planes had dropped 337 tons of bombs on London. Even though civilian populations were not the primary target that day, the poorest of London slum areas-the East End–felt the fallout literally, from direct hits of errant bombs as well as the fires that broke out and spread throughout the vicinity. Four hundred and forty-eight civilians were killed that afternoon and evening.

A little past 8 p.m., British military units were alerted with the code name “Cromwell,” meaning the German invasion had begun. A state of emergency broke out in England; even home defense units were put to the ready. One of Hitler’s key strategic blunders of the war was to consistently underestimate the will and courage of the British people. They would not run or be cowed into submission. They would fight.

The Brits had a primitive radar system set up along the coast so they knew when and where the German planes where coming from so they could get their planes in the air to intercept them, that’s what saved their butts.

Or the fact that the German bombing raids were planned long before the outbreak of hot war.
The Bruts had been trying to clear out the East End of London for decades.
The war and German bombers gave them the opportunity to shell the east end using non fused shells, which missed the planes, and landed on the east end.
After the so called “war” the east end?
Cleared out….mission accomplished.

Go check it out.
It’s all true.

Hitler’s greatest mistake was Dunkirk. He lived to regret it.

For many years, the assumption has been that those tens of thousands of men, women and children who died during the bombing were killed by the explosion of German bombs.

This is not so.

A large proportion of the deaths, perhaps as many as half, were caused not by the German air force, but rather by the British army and their artillery.

How Thousands of Civilians Were Killed by British Shells in the London Blitz

At least they were finally able to clean up London’s East End.

I’ve read once, but without further corroboration, that the Brits were bombing Germany well before the Blitz.

Anyone know?

Yep.
The allies were the first to indiscriminately bomb civilian targets.
And they have continued to indiscriminately bomb targets ever since.

Here?
There?
Anywhere someone wealthy desires lebensraum.

Yes, the allies were bombing civilian targets in Germany well before Germany bombed London.
This article is total crap. Hitler viewed the English as cousins and had hoped that they would see reason and not fight. This was why he allowed the BEF to escape at Dunkirk instead of destroying them. As for the bombing of cities, it was the British who started it and perfected it: they would fly in several waves, first dropping regular munitions and then later using phosphorus etc. to cause a firestorm and then later returning to bomb those attempting to rescue.
During the first war, the British were shipping munitions to the continent on merchant vessels. The German U boats would identify such a vessel and would surface and tell the crew to get into their life boat as the vessel was about to be sunk. Once the merchant crew was safe, the U boat would sink the ship carrying the munitions. After a time, the Brits began to hide guns on these merchant vessels so as to get a shot at the U boat once it had surfaced and was vulnerable. Hence the U boats stopped giving the merchant crews any warning. Later, the British demonized these U boat crews for sinking merchant vessels.
These British are the real monsters. Look at what the did in the Boer war to women and children. Look what they did to natives of north america and elsewhere. Horrible.

The Germans should have concentrated their bombardment on the true enemy … the City of London, where all of the (((bankers))) pushing the war were situated.

But, in all likelihood, they, too, would have been forewarned — just like the thousands that stayed out of the Twin Towers on 9/11 …

WW2 was scripted.
The winners/losers were already decided before bullet one flew out a gun barrel.
