The Gaza Strip is the home base of Hamas, but there is not a single specific location in Gaza that can be targeted and destroyed in order to bring an end to Hamas. I believe that Israel is dangerously over confident in its bellicose declarations that it will wipe Hamas off the face of the earth. Short of using nukes, Israel will have to send its ground forces into the strip and fight house to house battles. I think many of Israel’s supporters labor under the delusions that Gaza is a small area that can be easily dealt with. It is not.
Let me put this into perspective. The Gaza Strip is 141 square miles in size. Let’s compare it to Iwo Jima — that tiny island is almost 9 square miles. Unlike Iwo Jima — a small island — the Gaza Strip borders Egypt, which means it has a supply route that Israel cannot close unless Israel decides to go to war with Egypt as well. Why do I bring up Iwo Jima? Because the Gaza Strip is ripe with tunnels and bunkers designed to protect Hamas fighters from aerial bombardment. Just as the United States Navy decimated the surface of Iwo Jima, Israel can flatten the dwellings and office buildings crowded into Gaza. But the U.S. Navy failed to destroy the Japanese force hiding below the surface with the naval fusillade. The U.S. Marine Corps had to land on the beaches and fight a bloody month long battle to clear the island.
I think Israel is looking at the equivalent of fighting the Battle of Iwo Jima in the Gaza Strip. Only instead of a month long effort, this battle would likely endure for at least four months — perhaps longer. And Israel will suffer massive casualties. I believe the length of the battle hinges on two critical factors: 1) The ability of Hamas to get resupplied from Egypt with food, weapons and ammunition and 2) The skill and tenacity of Hamas in using anti-tank guided missiles and light artillery effective at short range.
If Hamas replicates the tactics Hezbollah employed against Israel in its 2006 incursion into Southern Lebanon then Israel’s chances of prevailing quickly are slim. Israel’s strategic position will be further complicated if Hezbollah decides to enter the fray in a significant way. Fighting a two front war over an extended period of time will sap Israeli resources. The problem this presents is that Israel’s traditional supplier of weapons and ammunition — the United States — is running on fumes having depleted its stores in order to support Ukraine.
Let me give you some other urban combat battles that might provide some historical lessons for the campaign Israel is about to undertake — the Battle of Fallujah, the Battle of Hue City, the Nazi attack on the Jewish uprising in Warsaw. That should get the discussion going.

The US is being stripped of all resources including gas reserves and weapons. Now, Israel will complete the final transfer of weapons and money to the current Israeli state to genocide the Palestinians in Gaza, and most likely many lebanonese as well.
And now that 99% of the world hates the US and its terrorist actions, the US ripe for a killing field of sorts. Many of the sleeper cells have gained entrance through the southern border. How will the US defend itself without gas reserves, weapons or a healthy unvaccinated military force?

I talked with Paul Tibits, pilot and Dutch Van Kirk, navigator of the Enola Gay B29 two separate times in the early 2000’s just after 9-11. Paul was shown, classified documents, at that time, that showed more than 1 million American dead and wounded and at least 4 to 5 times that in Japanese dead and wounded resulting from a mainland invasion. The bombs actually saved millions of lives. In 1946 the Atlanta Constitution newspaper published an article that Japan my have exploded it’s own atomic bomb (test) off a small island in what is now the northwest coast of North Korea in late spring 1945. If that was true, given more time, could the Japanese have used that on our invasion forces?

You missed a third possibility. Israel could close off supplies flowing from Egypt by invading across strip, maybe a mile wide, contiguous with Gaza’s southern border with Egypt. The Israelis would then be able to block any supplies whatsoever from entering from Egypt. Israel’s navy can prevent any supplies from entering by sea. This would completely seal off Gaza from resupply of any of the necessities of life. Once this is accomplished, Israel should drop leaflets to inform the population that they have a choice: stay where they are and starve to death or die of the disease (e.g., typhus, cholera) that will quickly arise and spread due to the shutdown of their sanitation system, or surrender to the IDF at designated points at their border for immediate deportation to any Muslim countries offering asylum. This would incur few IDF casualties, involve little house to house combat after the initial invasion to establish the cordon sanitaire, and enable Gaza’s civilian population to save itself before conditions become unsurvivable. All Hamas members and fighters would be shot dead on the spot with no quarter given.
Makes good sense to me. The only problem is they are taught that to die fighting infidels is a ticket to their heaven. Many of the civies will fight rather than surrender, but that is not all bad. This post makes more sense than any of the knuckle-headed jew and American haters who post here.

The face of warfare has changed. Tanks, F16’s and howitzers are now easily targeted and destroyed by cheap and effective drones. The oppressed people of the Middle East now have the ability to reduce Israel to rubble just as they have been doing to the Palestinian’s and Lebanese for decades. I expect the outcome from this incident will be a long period of attacks from Israel’s enemies that will continue and become increasingly sophisticated as time goes on.
