A Chinese engineer one time told me that China thinks in 5, 10 & 25 year plans while America operates on 2/4 year election cycles. Long term planning can only be accomplished in a dictatorial regime, but it does create stability.
Every time we change the party in control, our plans change. Just look at how differently we are addressing the border from 2020 until now.
The deficit grows inexorably and acceleratingly (if that’s not a word, it should be). No party can win with a program of “Fiscal Responsibility Now”.
I guess deficit spending is one part of the plan that has been long term.
