I didn’t say he was the second coming of SRV did I ? It’s just that I cant stand hyper critical snobs in general because likely they are working from the assumption that some narrowly defined technique that they and all of their friends adhere to is the only way to do it .Guitar player myself , self taught , perthaps not the technical wizards that the music store boys are but 9 out of ten listeners agree my shit has much more soul ,grit and authenticity in one touching and bending of the string than all the scales they can rattle off at light speed in typical shredder fashion . I was thinking of getting something in the line of a travel guitar and there was a Mars in the area that I’d never been to, so I thought I could kill two birds with one stone and check out the store and the Baby Taylor at the same time.
About an hour before closing time in the middle of the week, I think I was the only customer in the store when I walked in. Wending my way around the place I eventually found the acoustic guitars were in a separated back room. Found the Baby Taylor, played a couple of tunes on it, when a salesman walked in.
“Try playing that on one of those nice guitars,” he said pointing at the high end Taylors.
“I’ve already got nice guitars,” I said. “I’m not really in the market, I just wanted to see if the Baby Taylor was worth something.”
“I understand,” he said, “but we don’t usually get people who play like that in here and I want to hear it on something really good.”
His movies are ok to watch if you have nothing better to do some winter evening. It’s best to leave it at that, because it appears that he is a major fraud if you peel it back any further. I guess who the hell cares either way.
He can play some guitar, at least that part isn’t fake.
