More bad news for the mRNAs

A new paper in a top scientific journal shows they accidentally cause our cells to create vast numbers of random misshapen proteins; no one has any idea how serious the risks of those might be

How scary is a new paper showing mRNA Covid shots accidentally cause our bodies to make many different proteins and not just the Covid spike, as the shot’s promoters have claimed for three years?

Scary enough the paper’s authors began spinning their work as soon as they put it out. University of Cambridge professor Anne Willis, the study’s co-senior author, told reporters that mRNA “technology is amazing and it’s going to be revolutionary… but we’ve just made it a whole lot safer going forward.”

Yep, mRNA shots are great. They’re “amazing”! And they’re not exactly unsafe. But soon they’ll be “a whole lot safer.”

How reassuring! Too bad over 1 billion people have already received them.

The study is complex, but its takeaway is simple: playing with nature is never risk-free.

Remember, mRNA jabs work much as viruses themselves do, by hijacking our own cellular machinery to crank out proteins. But the mRNA in the shots is subtly different than the RNA that viruses (or our own bodies) make and use.

RNA consists of four simple molecules, or bases, linked together in long chains. Scientists subtly tweaked the chemical structure of one of those four bases. They hoped to disguise the vaccine RNA from our immune systems, which are ever-watchful for foreign RNA.

The modification “worked.”

The new structure largely escapes the immune system but can still hijack our cellular machinery to kick out copies of the spike protein. Our bodies then respond to those spikes by making antibodies.

In the words of the 2023 Nobel Pfizer in Medicine (I mean Nobel Prize in Medicine!) committee, “nucleoside base modifications… enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against COVID-19.”

But every miracle has a price.

Modified RNA is no exception. When the Covid jabs were introduced, scientists and regulators made two crucial assumptions about them.

First, that the mRNA in them would quickly be destroyed, so they would not continuously produce spike protein for weeks or months. As a Reuters “fact-check” in April 2021 explained:

Dr Daniel Kuritzkes, chief of the infectious diseases division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, one of the world’s top teaching hospitals and part of Harvard Medical School… pointed out that the mRNA vaccines are degraded within 24 to 48 hours… that means they disappear from the shot recipients’ bodies within a day or two.

The eminent Dr. Kuritzkes was wrong.

In early 2022, scientists reported in Cell, one of the world’s top journals, they had found vaccine mRNA for at least 60 days in germinal centers, which are crucial parts of the immune system. Other studies have had similar findings.

The modified vaccine RNA appears to be too good at tamping down the immune response, and thus lasts far longer than expected. In turn, the overly persistent mRNA may cause the autoimmune disorders that have been reported after Covid jabs – and possibly other immune system changes too.

The second assumption was that the jabs would produce only spike protein.

This issue wasn’t discussed as often, because the mRNA in the shots essentially copied the portion of the coronavirus’s RNA that “encoded” for the spike. What else could it make?

The answer turns out to be lots of other proteins.

The reason, as the authors of Wednesday’s bombshell paper demonstrate, is that the modified mRNA confuses ribosomes – the “machines” in our cells that read RNA and convert it into amino acids that then build themselves into proteins.

The confusion isn’t enough to stop the ribosome from working, but it does cause “frameshifting” – essentially a stutter.*

(*Skippable details here, story continues below: Ribosomes read RNA bases in groups of three called “codons.”

There are 64 possible codons (four times four times four), ranging from AAA to UUU. Confusingly, ribosomes can make only 20 different amino acids, so three codons translate to each kind of amino acid. The other four codons tell the ribosome to start and stop working.

The modified base in mRNA is the uracil, or “U,” base. The researchers found that ribosomes will sometimes stumble over codons that begin with that modified U base, and produce an amino acid for the next three bases.

For example, suppose the RNA chain reads U-G-C-A-G. The ribosome should produce the amino acid cystine, which U-G-C encodes, and then move to the next codon, beginning with A. Instead it skips the U and makes alanine, which G-C-A encodes.

The frameshifting will continue into the next codon, which will improperly begin with G and not A. As the errors accumulate, the result will be a protein which has little in common with the intended spike protein.)

In all, almost 10 percent of the proteins that the mRNA Covid jabs make the body produce appear to be “wrong,” rather than the intended spike protein.

In the Cell paper, the authors show that neither Covid-19 itself nor the DNA-based Covid vaccine from AstraZeneca produce similar proteins. The effect is limited to the mRNAs.

The authors also reported they could find a biological response to the wrong proteins in mice and in humans. They warned that these proteins “could activate T cells that target host cells,” and that their other effects “could include increased production of new B cell antigens.”

T and B cells form the core of our immune system. In other words, the mRNA jabs may accidentally cause the body to attack its own tissues, as well as make antibodies that don’t work against the spike protein.

These warnings come not from me, but directly from the paper.

Once again, we’re learning far too late of the risks of moving a novel biotechnology from the lab to human beings in months.

The fact that this novel biotechnology was given to (or forced on) not thousands or even millions of people but billions – and that most of them faced little risk from the disease it was meant to (but does not) prevent – is only the icing on the cake.
