A rare instance of an unexpected consequence of a bad policy advancing liberty is the growth in private schools enrolment and homeschooling that occurred as a result of the covid lockdowns. An October 2023 study by Eloise Burtis and Sofoklis Goulas of the Brookings Institution found that 79 percent of American school-age children were enrolled in government schools in the 2021-2022 school year, down from 84 percent enrolled in government schools in 2019-2020. The decline in children attending government schools accelerated because of the lockdowns, and enrollment in government schools continues to decline.
Other researchers have found similar results. For example, the Urban Institute’s Thomas Dee found that during the pandemic hundreds of thousands of children left government schools for private schools and homeschooling.
In October of last year, the Washington Post reported that since before the covid lockdowns there was a 51 percent increase in homeschooled children. The Post labeled homeschooling “America’s fastest growing form of education.“
The lockdowns served no public health purpose. In fact, the social isolation imposed on children by the closures of schools and even playgrounds did more damage to children than covid ever could.
However, the lockdowns did have a long-run benefit by increasing the number of parents rejecting government schooling. The school closures allowed many parents to see for themselves the problems with government-controlled education. Parents were horrified to witness their children logging on to Zoom and then being force-fed woke propaganda instead of receiving a quality education. Parents realized they had a choice: either allow their children to continue to receive an inferior education or seek out an alternative that would provide their children a quality, woke–free education.
Many parents were inspired to seek alternatives to government schools when teacher union officials used their political clout to keep government schools closed even after most business and government offices were open. It turns out that actions of Dr. Anthony “I represent science” Fauci, teacher union officials, and authoritarian politicians who worked to keep government schools closed ended up advancing the popularity of alternatives to government schools.
Parents looking to provide their children with a quality home-based education that promotes real learning that does not push a political agenda but does instruct in the history and philosophy of liberty should look into my homeschooling curriculum. My curriculum provides students with a well-rounded education that includes rigorous courses in history, mathematics, and the physical and natural sciences. The curriculum also provides instruction in personal finance. Students can develop superior communication skills via intensive writing and public speaking courses. The government and history sections of the curriculum emphasize free-market economics, libertarian political theory, and the history of liberty. It is the right thing to do when the parents are intelligent and the teachers are all communist propagandists working for the yids to destroy children with their child sacrifice mentality as our new american religion. I am surprised that any children exist having escaped abortion to even go to school, as abortion is the number one cause of death, and also destruction of the human race. Perhaps elephants, dolphins or some other highly evolved animals who does not kill its babies, will replace the humans, once they have lost all their souls and become some type of trans-human bad experiment turned deadly and become extinct forever.
When covid started I kept my kids home and enrolled them in online schooling. They did well but like I figured they missed their friends. So the next year they went back to public school and had jumped ahead of the school by a lot. after six months my daughter decided she had enough of the dumb teachers who didn’t want to do their job and the bullying kids who didn’t seem to want to learn anything and went back to online schooling on her own.
Our five children never saw the inside of a public school. We taught them: Reading, Math, and Art, how to build a fire in the rain and snow- Skills like that; Oh, and Bible. Oldest is about to graduate from a technological institute with a Bachelors in computer programming; Second oldest presently attending Community College, plans to continue her education at an art institute in Georgia, Third presently managing the bakery, is completing the management course offered by Albertson’s; Fourth is well employed with a disabilities assisted living organization. Youngest, still home.

No they haven’t, Liberty. I think you know that the deniers will keep sending their kids to those day prisons because they need to keep up with the Joneses while pretending they’re doing it for their kids. Meanwhile, they don’t even know why they had kids except to have little appurtenances to their own egos.
Some very few may have woken up, many are financially constrained and literally have no options, but most just want to keep the conveeenience of those day prisons going.
I thought armed white domestic extremists are a huge problem. Why is Fauci still vertical? I guess there is no extremist problem after all.
If you want children to have a rounded education, they need to be exposed to the consequences of ‘extreme liberty’ AND ‘extreme organisation’. To be brutal, some people prefer one, some prefer the other and most prefer something closer to the middle.
They need to be exposed to the economic effects of private monopolies as well as the reality that some industries are most economically viable as a monopoly (which suggests that ownership should not be private) . Children need to be exposed to the principle that capitalists free markets only work when customers can freely choose not to participate at all in the market, without their worlds being adversely affected in a major way. That suggests that areas such as housing, utilities and a few other things may not operate best under a totally free market (notably if housing for the less well off is not built by private firms because they can make more money catering to the rich).
There’s no black and white answers in education, there are shades of grey and education is about bringing children as they grow up to understand which shades of grey they personally favour.
You can also expose them to discussions about what society should value in terms of what it pays a lot for. Does it value hyper-aggressive, me-me-me selfishness verging on narcissism and/or psychopathy? Does it value those who can build coalitions of cooperative humans to achieve things together? If it values both, why are the very richest always the most aggressive and thuggish????
They also need to be exposed to the concept that individual liberty will always come up against competing claims of individual liberty by someone else. How do you decide whose liberty is more important?
Finally, to be adults, they need to be exposed to the concept that the vast majority of human beings on earth do not live in the USA and have no compunction to agree with US doctrines whatsoever. The concept of ‘liberty from US imperialism’ is every bit as important to 8 billion non-US citizens as personal liberty is to many US citizens. Short of calling the USA a racist nation, this is a concept that must be respected via US foreign policy.
It is the height of uneducated rabble, either of Americans or Zionists in Israel, to claim that ‘the rules of the world don’t apply to us’.
The world’s majority is coalescing against such views in ever more intransigent ways and the views of the majority almost always win out over the longer term…..
