About 15 years ago, I worked at a trucking company based at PDX … and there was a young woman dispatcher there who was constantly complaining about how she needed a new(er) car, but couldn’t afford one.
So … I said to her that we should look at just 2 expenses of hers that I’d observed just at work: her SBUX consumption and her smoking.
We tallied up her monthly expense for just those 2 items … it came to just north of $820 a month … at that time, with a reasonable down payment, she could have afforded payments on a brand new bottom line Mercedes Benz …
Many years ago, before Craigslist had been destroyed by termites, I posted a short bullet-point note there, similar to what you’ve done with that girl, and people wrote back in awe, as if struck by a heavenly epiphany or ingenious revelation, beyond the reach of ordinary minds.
I believe I began that post with a headline claiming that I would give whoever read and followed it a $5k/yr. raise right away, with no additional income generated, and make them a bit healthier and thinner and less stressed, too. They were each gobsmacked, and it was only an introductory thumbnail essay to open minds – which it did.
People have been just so dumbed down and infantilized. And I’m not some world-killing go-getter. I’ve had a rough, disordered life since childhood (actually, BECAUSE of childhood). We have a lot of lost ground to try to recover. End the Fed, and most of fedgov, to begin.

Back in 1977 I worked as a supervisor on a rig that drilled the first wells ever drilled in the Gulf of Alaska (100 miles +/- from any land.) This was pretty high profile and we would bring out helicopter loads of people (local officials, represenatives of the fishing/crabbing industry and the media out to the rig to tour the operations. Naturally one of their main concerns (other than how to make millions $$$) was our impact on the environment and the fishing industry in particular. On a trip in to Kodiak I was walking along the harbor where all the fishings boat were moored. I hear this gurgling noise and looked over the seawall and see a 12″ – 18″ pipe flowing directly into the harbor dumping raw sewage complete with human turds, condoms, kotex and other feminine “Hygene” products. Think about that the next time you purchase seafood from the pristine waters of our 50th state.
By the way, our permit to drill was held up temporarily because our onboard sewage treatment plant was missing a non-critical part from the manufacturer. We test the sewage daily to be in compliance with environmental requirements.
Let me see; 55-70 men onboard an offshore rig (remember 100 +/- miles offshore) compared to the population of Kodiak Alaska shitting more or less straight into the harbor. Kinda makes you want to pay many $$$ for the cod and crab legs doesn’t it?
