The time has come once again to try and organize a TBP South meetup. Last year a few of you said that around this time of the year would be doable — so let’s do it!
I have an idea that sounds like fun, and at a place where there is lots to do for groups of people: a Rangers baseball game.
The entire sports complex in Arlington, which includes Texas Live! and Cowboys Stadium, with Six Flags being close-by, offers many entertainment options. We would be able to get a group ticket discount, of course, as well. For those of you willing to run the gauntlet and be legally molested by obese black TSA agents, DFW Airport is very near, and I would even provide transport to and from there for you brave souls. And there is a legendary Gentleman’s Club in Arlington, too (not that I, uh, know about that *loosens collar*)!
Oh – and hotel lodgings are plentiful here, since our Governor ships most all illegals to other states (he’s “helping” us you know — and with friends like him…).
I really think this would be a great neutral site for us all to meet. It would make for a memorable time. Given the choice, however, I would still encourage those of you who have not gone up to HF’s place in NH to do so; it too is money/time well-spent. You will have a fine time there, and meet some of the best people on Earth.
SO: what it comes down to are money, time and travel vs. sitting at home alone (or being stuck with Bob P. — could you imagine? *cringes*) wishing you had somewhere to go and people to visit.
Well come on, friends, let us all get together and create some memories! Some GOOD memories! Enough doom-and-gloom! The worst thing we can do to those who hate us is to have fun while they wallow in misery!
I look forward to hearing from you, but even more to someday meet you. I really hope we can put this together. Let’s make it happen!
Bring the kids!
I think its great that you are trying to put this together. I applaud your efforts and, your willingness to go the extra steps.
That being said, Texas is still a long drive from Georgia. And, quite honestly, these days I’m not too keen on being too far away from the homestead. Like many believe, something big is brewing and I’d hate to be a 2 day drive and/or a commercial flight (which I all but refuse to take).
I organize a wings and beer night with fellow retirees that need to drive more than an hour to get to the venue 2x a year. Getting everyone there on a schedule that fits is like pulling teeth.
For my part, thank you for trying to pull something like this together.
I’m in GA and would love to attend.
I should have elaborated…the retirees are all Ma Bell retirees from Southern Bell, Western Electric, BellSouth, and AT&T.
But, I’m seeing that there are a handful of Georgia TPB’rs. I live about 20 minutes from Helen, GA.
What about you guys?
I’m about 50 minutes from Helen. Also would enjoy some wings and beer.

Not retired, but I’m in GA, and always down for wings and beer. Let us know when and where.

If you did not see this, shoot me an email. I’ve already heard from 2 others in our area interested in meeting up for lunch or whatever.

Texas isn’t the south. Texas is Texas. I live in FL, which is also not the south in my book despite its geographic location.
Is anything the South, by your mysterious mode of reckoning?
Brazil?
Minnesota’s south of Manitoba, innit? That what he means? He wouldn’t deny that Minnesota’s the South, would he?
TJF: I hear you.
I live on the Southern Oregon coast (Brookings), 7 miles from the Ca. border.
Moved here from So. Cal. after the Rodney King riots.
Where I live is a different planet than the Portland metro area, Eugene, Corvallis and now, sadly, Bend, etc….
When I travel (rarely now) and I tell people I live in Oregon I get the eye roll and the snicker and it annoys me. This state is the 6th largest geographically and 85% of this geography is conservative.
I admire and am jealous of people of like mind that want to get together, but I avoid large groups now and most certainly to discuss politics…. and “bring the kids”? Uhhh, no thankyou.
If this was in the Austin area I would think about it because I could hit 6th street and hear some great live music and get hammered…then discuss issues of the day.
I hope this happens and it’s a good time for those that want to participate.
I went to this last year and had a blast (pun intended).
Turn volume up!
Count this Texan in! I will be there, with bells on!
I’ve got a good friend who is one step away from putting all the pieces together – An evening with TBP’ers will help him to finish the puzzle. And, of course, my wife is always down for a good time.
We’ve been to games and Texas Live! a number of times, and can attest to a fun night.
Probably going to pass on the legendary gentlemen’s club. 🙂
Looking forward to connecting with some freedom-loving people !!
I agree with not traveling too far from ones home.
That said, looking at a home on 50+ acres in Mcdowell County,N.C.,I get it visitors are welcome and folks interested would host a party(lots of red cups!)/try and get a few bands ect.
Things go south folks welcome to stay and have a fair amount of preps, will need time to build local tribe/gardens/critters ect. but the world does not implode could be a lot of epic fun!
As would take time to set up property ect. that time could be used to find some folks that seem to unfortunately dropped off the site, hope all is well with em and they soon come back!
Twice a year event I attend with kindred souls seeking a stateless society…………..MIDFEST.INFO .
Sounds like fun, but not in summer. Maybe September or October if the shit hasn’t hit the fan yet. It’s a 9 hour drive from Central Missouri. I’m not afraid to travel. I refuse to put my life on hold. I’m a risk taker. If TSHTF while traveling, oh well, sucks to be all of us, regardless of where we are.
Well back in August you said, “Maybe in the Spring?” so that’s why I’m trying to do this again.
I’m talking about getting together next month, not Summer (even though the Rangers stadium has a closeable roof for the Dog Days). April 5th through the 12th the Rangers are home. I know nobody, including myself, wants to be slogging around in 100-degree temps and have a miserable time; and now it seems nobody wants to get together, period.
Do people think this is some kind of set-up, like we’re Alphabet Agents trying to get TBP’ers together so we can Jan 6 them? Honestly. Because it seems like there’s a lot of fear here. And that’s just what TPTB want us to be, afraid; afraid of each other, afraid of them, afraid of the unknown; which is exactly the reason I decided to take a chance and go to NH a few Summers ago, to confront those fears and beat them, meet some actually good people and hopefully lifelong friends. I’m so happy I did.
It shouldn’t matter how we meet, only that for some reason we were supposed to, even if that’s just on a forum. This place is like a big church (in more ways than one), and churches encourage fellowship, do they not?
So that’s all I’m trying to do, have a fellowship of like-minded people who will gather in celebration of life. I’m sick of reading about death and doom, there’s plenty of that going around; I’d rather concentrate on living. Anyone who wants to join is welcomed with open arms (and minds).
Well it’s really up to my hubs who is still working and we are taking 2 weeks in July to go to Glacier Natl park. Tx would be a minimum of 4 days because 9 hrs each way. Pick a weekend and I’ll see what he says. I’m up for it but probably not by myself. I used to go to Denver ( 9 hrs each way) all the time by myself but that was back in the 90’s. Things are a little scarier now then they were then.
What a great idea…get everyone in a small confined space…what could go wrong.
Lahaina, TX? Quashing rumors on the right Web, it was just windy that day.
/s
Sounds like a great idea Cpt. O! I’m already here and well established in North Central Texas. I live near Fort Worth and could be a good resource for helping you make it happen. Given current affairs going on right now in our great state, like minded Texans need to start coming together. Email me at… [email protected] if you want to hook up.
Shucks, have not made New Hampster to visit with the gracious and loquacious Hardscrambled yet and I am only one state away.
The oldest boy is in Austin, a chem engineer working in the snack industry at Samsung, he makes chips and wafers.
Try scheduling for the Spring or fall, summer is too hot.
Captain, I would just build it and they will come. Pick a date or weekend, announce it here and have people contact you backstage for the details.
I can’t come, unfortunately. But you always meet again, so I bet so will we.
I am about 2 hours from Arlington and would live to come!
*love*
@BHR – Not sure if you will see this or not, but we’re shooting for April 6 or 7.
Shoot me a text at 817.470.8851 and we can set up a time to talk it over. Thx
