SUNDAY MORNING CLASSICS ON TBP

A collaboration of: “The Classic Music Mafia”
Anthony Aaron, and Steve C.

Steve C / Classic Music Mafia: Here is the image depicting “The Classic Music Gangsters,” a whimsical and imaginative group of classical musicians with a playful gangster twist. The scene is set in an old-world music hall with rich, vintage decor, where the musicians are performing in stylish 1920s-era gangster attire. The atmosphere is mysterious yet sophisticated, capturing the unique blend of classical music and a lighthearted gangster theme. – aka.attrition

Every Sunday morning we present selections for our TBP family to enjoy.

We present symphonies, ensembles, quartets, octets, etc.

Not all of our music is strictly ‘classical’. We may stray a little, but we strive to make all of our selections ‘classy’.

We offer tips on proper ‘symphony etiquette’ and even some selections that are a bit light-hearted and fun aimed at a younger audience. Those pieces will be so designated, and might be a good way to introduce kids to a world of music that they might not have been exposed to or think of as old and ‘stuffy’.

A full symphony will run as long as it will. We don’t want to cut a symphony short. However, we also include some shorter pieces that we try to keep under fifteen minutes in length. You can sample each and hopefully find one or more that pleases you.

We hope that you enjoy our Sunday selections.

Thanks to you Sirs for your creation of this most anticipated temple for the worshipping of the music!

The only lady orchestra conductor that I am aware of, whose talent and enthusiasm are marvellous.

Maurice Ravel – Bolero | Alondra de la Parra | WDR Symphony Orchestra

Chopin

Pronounced: “Show-pahn”

Possibly {arguably?} Poland’s most beloved son.

In keeping with the Sunday – day of praise theme, I like Taryn’s smile, and her producer’s talent of overlaying what I believe is her skills with viola, then adding her keyboards, humming harmonies, and melody variants, in this version of a classic that Celtic Woman has also done.

Beautiful vocal / instrumental, without lyrics.

Gratitude is a form of homage expressed.

We shall turn, now, to the Herbert von Karajan 1973 cycle of the 4 Symphonies of Johannes Brahms. This cycle was part of a period of von Karajan’s greatest performances with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

Brahms: Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68

Brahms was known for his obsessive perfectionism and relentless high standards, and his first symphony was no exception. He reported that its composition took 21 years from start to finish. He also dragged his feet when it came to publishing the work, testing it out on audiences several times and making tweaks before finally delivering the manuscript to his publisher, Fritz Simrock.

This symphony is sometimes known as “Beethoven’s Tenth,” a nickname coined by conductor Hans von Bülow largely because of similarities to the “Ode to Joy” theme in Beethoven’s Ninth. Brahms resented his portrayal in this comparison and famously commented that “any ass can see” the homage to Beethoven.

The only of Brahms’s symphonies to use a formal introduction, Symphony No. 1 also incorporates orchestral sonata form, a violin solo in the slow movement, and a melody in the final movement inspired by an Alpine shepherd’s song.

00:40 • 1. Un poco sostenuto – Allegro – Meno allegro
13:55 • 2. Andante sostenuto
22:45 • 3. Un poco allegretto e grazioso

Edward Elgar: Serenade for Strings in E minor, Op.20

This three-movement Serenade of 1892 was a breakthrough work for Elgar and was one of the first of his works to make any kind of international impact. It’s one of his earliest works in which his distinctive voice is clearly apparent.

Hey Joe

Jimi Hendrix was one of the greatest performers of the ‘60s who, sadly, died in 1970 at 27 years old.

He left a legacy of some famous music performances … here are those tunes covered by the Turtle Island Quartet …

Thanks again Sunday Music Crew!

Interesting take on Jimi, never heard before.

While perhaps not classical in the general sense feel close enough with this song(there’s a surprise,I know!).

I will say the dual vocals here are fantastic!

Enjoy the music folks with a cup of coffee and the rest of the weekend.

Robert Plant’s fascination with Tolkien and such are apparent here … and this is the best performance of this piece I know of …

Many thanks …

Their ‘Stairway To Heaven’ was played heavily in my university days … the DJ on the campus station later became known as ‘Kid Leo’ on the FM circuit in Cleveland …

This is the finest cover version of that anthem I’ve heard yet … and, from the looks of it during the performance, Robert Plant Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones seem to agree …

Steve C —

Thanks for those unique selections from Green Bean’s … children need to develop a sense of aesthetics, and music is one of the places where that sense can develop really early in life. My own interest in music began before I was 5 years old — listening to my maternal grandfather’s selection of Caruso on 78 rpm shellac discs played on his crank-up Victrola …

And, of course, the Britten piece pulls it all together beautifully …

Bruckner Symphony No.5

I remember when I heard it for the first time, live at the SF Symphony,
after about 20 minutes I was mentally exhausted going from one ‘grand finale’-sounding passage to the next in rapid succession, and had to completely recalibrate my expectations (that had been based on countless symphonies by other composers).

She’s been around for may years … first heard her music on an episode of ‘Providence’ (1999-2002) with Melina Kanakaredes … this is a much more recent version of the song … the lyrics and the message really caught my attention … still does …

P.S.: Here’s the old version that I remember …
