Those who attack inflict wounds, causing damages seen and unseen.
Physical in this case. In other cases, psychological.
With time, most wounds heal. But not all.
In the law of the jungle, it is survival of the fittest.
So, few animals have any empathy for the wounded buff.
“He should’ve developed a thicker skin.” some will opine.
And yet, wounds leave scars, which are reminders that make forgetting the experience difficult.
The attackers: Vicious, miserable; strong; lazy; single minded, with weaknesses of their own. Always hungry. Always looking to pounce on the weak.
When a mirror is placed before them, what they see makes them angry.
So they lash out again.
And yet, the one with a thorn in its foot, sent in to devour the prophet, lay down with him, in peace, when the thorn was removed.
Lessons learned, or do we ever stop learning. Never.

Those lions appeared young and well fed. They were playing with their food and, “squirrel!” happened. I relate to the water buffalo pretty much every day lately.

This comment section has been one of the most helpful things for me. I mouthed off like a wounded lamb, and the lurking lions took me in for the final slaughter. After a lot of my own kicking and screaming that went nowhere. That’s when I realized that the chip on my shoulder was in my own head and put there by myself. Been commenting here for more than 10 years. Don’t remember exactly how long. There have been many interesting characters along the way. We don’t have many real character characters like Smokey,Billy,Billah’s wife and BB anymore . We do have some pretty sharp guys we can learn from. I only know them from TBP but like to think of them as friends.
Special mention Stuckey and Llpoh. There are several great ones still active.
