Algebra has close to zero utility for anyone outside of higher level mathematics as a discipline.
My take is that it was made a central platform in high school in order to turn people off to math.
I can think of a dozen other forms of math that are far more interesting (Fibonacci sequence, magic 9’s) and much more useful (geometry, arithmetic) as well as being easy to understand and master which makes math more accessible to the average man. These are barely taught (arithmetic by rote which is supremely useful, daily to anyone who bothers to master it) and in the case of the Fibonacci sequence, not even mentioned, despite being wildly interesting to anyone who has ever looked into it.
