Scenes from The TBP Texas Meet

As you can see, one of those fellows above is world-famous.

Just got in from going to meet with Tim Flood and watching a Rangers game, and while we did have some fun, it wasn’t as much fun as it could have been.  We needed more people!  As the saying goes, maybe next year?

It was a sellout crowd, and the place was jumping:

Sadly, it seems the Astros left their team in Houston;  they played like a AA team.  The game was close for the first couple innings, but then the Rangers’ bats woke up and that was that.

The Rangers’ ballpark (Globe Life Field) is really nice inside, as you can see, and the outside is even better, as there is an entire entertainment complex surrounding the stadium called Texas Live! which has multiple bars, restaurants and dancing girls.

(No really, they had dancing girls.  Well, they had pompoms, but they weren’t really cheerleaders, as they led no cheers.  I would have cheered for them if they’d asked.  LOUDLY.)

AT&T Stadium, where the Cowboys (at times) play, still looms massively across the road from Globe Life Field;  whereas Globe Life has a capacity of 40-something thousand, AT&T can seat over 100,000, so you can imagine how big the thing is:

I was trying to take a picture of AT&T, and that guy thought I was shooting him, for some reason, the swarthy bastard (just kidding – that’s my friend Mike).

Anyway, as you can tell we had some great seats, right behind home plate, where you could see the pitches coming in.  No nosebleed section for us.  And naturally the crowd was totally into the game, so it was rocking in there.

Speaking of Tim Flood, here him and me are:

You wouldn’t be mistaken if you said those guys look a bit lit.  That’s one of those ridiculous margaritas in front of me.

I got to the stadium a couple of hours early so I could get some good parking, as if you’ve ever been to any stadium before you know how insane it is to get out of there when it’s over, and I got an outstanding space which was right up front in the lot.  It took very little time to get from there to the highway, and then it was straight on home.

As for merchandise, I bought a Corey Seager jersey — at $205 — and for Tim and his wife I got a couple of official Rangers ballcaps — at $36 per.  Good lord, the prices are beyond astronomical for everything in there!  I ordered a 12-oz. swirl margarita (okay, I ordered two):  $21 apiece, and with some actual tequila in it that was $6 more.  I was going to get something to eat too, but $12 for a hot dog — or $16 for a Whataburger (which, to be fair, would probably be worth it, as Whataburger rules), or way more for a meal at any of the restaurants, was just too much.  The tickets were $200 themselves.  So spending over $500 just on tickets and merchandise and a few drinks:  this kid was done.

Nevertheless, I’m so happy that I went, and even happier to see Tim and his crew.  Just the best people ever.  It was definitely worth the effort.  Good times with good friends, that’s what life is all about, isn’t it?

You know what’s even more important?  We got out and showed our faces in public, and no Feds tried to arrest us (like some of you seem to think was going to happen).  We aren’t afraid to be who we are simply because we say a few things on a website.  Just like when Tim and I met up at Marc’s farm, we both took a chance and went out of our way — in this case, WAY out of our way — to go meet some friends.  And that’s all we’re doing.  It doesn’t matter where we meet, online or otherwise;  all that matters is, we met.

And I’m eternally grateful to Admin/Avalon for having this forum available for us to find each other.  Thank you so much.  You’re the bomb.

In closing, I’d like to say I hope that we do have another TBP meet-up down here, though maybe not at a Rangers game.  We have a big state here, with lots of things to do.  I’m sure that we can find something we can all agree on… well, okay, I’m not willing to go that far.  But anyway, those who wanted to come but couldn’t, I’m sorry I missed you, and I trust that with a little extra time to plan maybe you can make it next time, as I’d love to see you.

And there will be a next time.  TBP LIVES!

I am serious about avoiding public events and places where there are a lot of people ,all kooped up and bottle necked in , and unarmed, big city mentalities , big city energy , seems insane to me . I just don’t trust it anymore . The Misses and I have to go across the Tacoma Narrows bridge once or twice a month lately . Neither of us really breath easy till we are back on this side of the bridge . I just cant run with the herd , never liked it all that much to begin with and now the way things are I like it even less .

The best date I ever went on was to an Orioles baseball game in Baltimore. It ended in a rainout so we hit the McCormick&Schmicks and a couple nudy bars. Best time ever.

I was in that bar/restaurant above right field before a game there. Then we went to our seats. Should have stayed in the bar as it was super hot in the sun there. And I actually like the heat usually. Probably early 90’s Orioles-Red Sox.

If there is another Texas TBP meet-up, it should be announced more loudly.
I knew nothing of it.

I had a great time, and agree that the prices were out of this world. On the other hand, I don’t get to take any of it with me in the end, and I’m glad I chose to go, for a couple of reasons – One was to make stronger connections with people from TBP in real life, and another for the fact I’d never been to a Major League baseball game. (Well, not exactly – I’ve been to a couple of events hosted at Globe Life Field and there was a ball game after, but I had never been specifically for the purpose of attending a game.)

My wife and a good friend of mine came with me – both of whom are big baseball fans – It was a great game, and some really good conversation. In the preparation and lead-up to the game, I mentioned to Cpt_Obviuos about having some good liberty-minded discussions – This buddy of mine is young, but he’s already switched-on, and I thought maybe some TBP-Style talking would help my buddy gain curiosity to learn more. Cpt_Obviuos responded by saying something like, “Or we could just go, have some drinks, watch a ball game, and have a good time – There’s enough doom & gloom in the world, and we can catch all of it on TBP.”

And that is just what we did! We had some drinks, we ate hot dogs and nachos, we watched the World Champion Texas Rangers win, and we hung out, as if we were old friends. Not one discussion about the Federal Reserve or the politicians destroying the country. Nothing about Jews. There’s really not much I can add to C_O’s post, save this one detail: At the end of the game, C_O’s friend was ready to head back to East Texas. Tim, Sunnie, and Dagan were just getting wound up. We had a handful of drinks at Texas Live! and then we caught an Uber back home. Well, not home, exactly. I live in the (formerly) small town of Keller, TX – About 30 minutes from the ball field. There’s a string of juke joints within walking distance to my house. To say we threw down is an understatement – We closed the place(s) down! We watched some live music, shot several games of pool, and we drank, and we drank, and we drank. A good time was had by all, except I’ve been sleeping it off most of today!!

I wish I had more bandwidth in life to try and plan another event here – Lots of people said they would like to have known more, or to try and attend if they could. I’m sure we could put together some things for us to do, There’s the Federal Reserve in Dallas, The infamous Grassy Knoll, baseball, football, concerts, etc, etc. But I’m probably not the guy to plan such an event – In fact, at about 1 hour prior to the designated meeting time, I called C_O and said, “Hey, man, I’m doing the best I can today, but I’m gonna be late…..”

Perhaps this fall I can think about an actual TBP event, and do a better job of promoting it – I def would not recommend coming to Dallas in the summer!

At any rate, we had a GREAT time, and would totally do it again!!
