Putin Has Allowed the Ukraine Conflict to Spiral Out of Control

Guest Post by Paul Craig Roberts

As I have consistently warned, it is only a matter of time before Putin’s never-ending war spirals out of control. That time is now.

The war has widened far from Donbass into Russian cities–Belgorod from which there have been evacuations, Tula, Kalunga,
Bryansk, and Moscow–and military bases, oil refineries, and concert halls. The attacks are mainly defeated by Russian air defense, but the attacks show that the conflict has spread beyond Donbas into Russia. NATO satellites and personnel are providing the intelligence for Ukraine’s attacks on Russia. NATO members have announced that most NATO members already have troops serving various capacities in Ukraine.

There is a perceived NATO force buildup around Russia. American tanks and armored vehicles have been sent to Greek ports. https://tass.com/world/1761465#:~:text=US-made%20Abrams%20tanks%20and%20Bradley,increase%20NATO’s%20potential%20in%20Europe

In Romania the largest military base in Europe is being built near the border with Ukraine. https://www.twz.com/news-features/romanian-airfields-transformation-into-a-giant-nato-base-is-underway

Romanian soldiers together with their American instructors are conducting exercises with Moldavian soldiers, possibly with the intent of occupying Transnistria, a breakaway province in which 2,000 Russian troops guard a large arms depot from Soviet days. https://voicefromrussia.ch/en/moldova-transnistria-the-next-stage-of-escalation-between-russia-and-nato/
There are indications that the US and NATO may move soldiers into Odessa in order to prevent Russian military support to Transnistria and to save Ukraine’s last port on the Black Sea. A move of NATO forces into Odessa could be part of a general move of NATO soldiers into Western Ukraine.

Remember that US Secretary of State Blinken recently declared that Ukraine for certain would be incorporated into NATO and that the process is underway. Both the occupation of Odessa by NATO forces and Ukraine’s membership in NATO are Putin red lines that he would have to enforce or be discredited in the eyes of Russia and the world.

These facts indicate that Macron, the French president, was not speaking out of turn when he said that it is necessary to save the West from a shattering defeat that would destroy its prestige by sending NATO and French troops to Ukraine. As I warned early on, prestige gets involved in conflicts, and the conflicts spin out of control. To avoid this, Putin needed to use sufficient force to immediately terminate the conflict. This failure has brought on wider war.

Don’t be fooled that these expensive developments are just a bluff to force Putin into a peace deal favorable to Ukraine. These are moves toward general war.

It is a war that Putin has brought on by trying to avoid it.

As I recently wrote, Putin has a very short time in which to end Ukraine’s resistance before he finds Russia in war with the West.

Note: Geoffrey Pyatt, a US State Department official who conspired with Victoria Nuland to install a puppet government in Ukraine following Washington’s overthrow of the elected government, has announced that the US government intends to prevent Russia’s Arctic development of liquid natural gas. “Our goal is to ensure that Arctic LNG i2 is dead in the water.”

Sounds like another Nord Stream Pipeline event is being planned. Will Putin for a third time after the pipeline and Crocus refuse to name Washington as the perpetrator?

Obama, Biden, H. Clinton, Victoria Nuland, John Bolton and now dead John McCain. But who the bad guys are no longer matters.

This is like S. Korean Romcoms (Romantic Comedies), painfully slow to develop and come to a conclusion, but still very entertaining.
The USSA empire is crumbling, enemies within and without, tearing, shredding the fabric of the empire into a pile of rags.
Putin and Xi, holding back, while impressively gathering massive national arsenals, economic muscle and military might, are totally out maneuvering the hapless American Klepto/Dodomats in one sanction, diplomatic embarrassment after another.
Ukraine’s total collapse, Israel’s pending nuclear bonfire and the simmering American civil war are the trifecta in WW3’s drama. Taiwan’s chip manufacturing is a footnote to America’s financial house of cards implosion.
Popcorn please.

There is good reason to believe the present man called Putin is not the same man as the Putin who took Crimea in 2014 without firing a shot. The original Putin was literally disappeared by Kremlin intelligence (or maybe CIA sabotage) right after Crimea, and replaced with a well-trained double. Compare their faces. The old Putin is quite different from the new. Right after the replacement, the new Putin and Lyudmila got “divorced”. The original Putin would have handled this war with a lot more finesse. Nevertheless, the new Putin is still an admirable leader. The situation is far from black and white. PCR is analyzing subtle nuances.

Yep, everything is Putin’s fault. God forbid the West sit down at a table with Russia and figure out a peace settlement. Then all the killing, spending of billions and the Russia bad narrative would have to end, for a while anyway. US of A always needs its current forever war going to keep the military contractors humming along.

I am beginning to think PCR is a CIA plant. His constant criticism of Putin despite the fact that Russia is clearly winning this war on all fronts is a clear indication.
This war has several facets that PCR never addresses and there are many factors he never takes into consideration. The ground war is only a small part of the overall picture, and the outcome of the ground war was never at doubt.
The fact is, Russia has already won the ground war as every credible military analyst has said time an time again. He has won the war, while keeping Russian losses to a minimum and growing both the Russian economy and military strength while doing it. He has also won the war for world opinion receiving the backing of the entire Global South, and the vast majority of Asia. He is growing BRICS and winning the war for de-dollarization.
Putin is very aware that the EU desperately needs some sort of emergency to justify a war tax on all the people of Europe to finance military spending. This is a major goal for the EU because if they can push through a war tax, that opens the flood gates to being able to print and borrow money on a mass scale the way the US currently does. The last thing he wants, is to give them that emergency. He realizes that by slow and steady process, the Collective West will tire of the war and public opinion will turn against it, as it always does.
Putin is not worried about a NATO invasion, because neither the US or NATO is in any state to fight a peer war. NATO has publicly admitted it does not have enough armaments’ to fight 2 week after exhausting its supplies by giving them all to Ukraine. Neither the US or NATO are willing to suffer any more embarrassment by having their weapons systems and tactics shown to be inferior in actual battle.
So it appears that PCR is the proverbial wolf in sheep’s clothing, pretending to be on the side of Russia, when in fact working to undermine it and promote the agenda of the Deep State and the Military Industrial Complex.

PCR is on the side of reason, peace and indeed the well-being of Donbass. There is plenty of room for criticizing Putin’s approach, even if one is generally sympathetic to Russia, as I am and as PCR is. For example, Putin put Igor Strelkov in jail. If anyone is a true Russian patriot, it’s Strelkov. The issue of Putin’s handling of the defense of Russia and Donbass is simply not black and white. Commentators like the very astute Scott Ritter say Russia is winning in every way, yet Donbass is suffering far more strife now than during the Minsk Agreements. Is this good or bad? PCR is analyzing the nuances.

Sounds like bullshit to me… What he is saying is despite Russia winning, it is not winning fast enough because he does not know anything about war.

Unlike us, Strelkov was a leader in Crimea and Donetsk. Also unlike Ritter, a ‘former’ heavily compromised intelligence officer who never even went near the area when he got the Potemkin tour for his book last year.

There is school of warfare I know of that advocates flailing about like retards and then retreating to a defensive line, launching 99% of your cruise missiles at shit that doesn’t matter, throwing frontal assaults at fortified positions, and continuing to trade with the enemy.

I am aware that Ukraine has done the same in most ways. Regardless, that is not ‘winning.’

Unless you look at this as playing out something much different than what you think of as war.

I know you are butthurt the Ukraine Nazis and NATO are getting the shit kicked out of them, but it does not change the facts on the ground. Ukraine has already lost, Russia is now in the clean up phase of the operation, as Ukraine is losing thousands of acres a day of the most productive farmland in the world. When it is all over, Ukraine will unconditionally surrender and the new Russian border will be on the other side of the Dnipro..

If someone points out the flaws and treason of Trump, do you automatically assume they are Berniebros or worship Hillary Clinton?

Criticism of Russia is not the same as siding with their enemies. If you can’t understand that, then you are the exemplar of why Maurice Samuel gloated over manipulating the gentile with sportsball fandom.

“Ukraine is losing thousands of acres a day of the most productive farmland in the world.”

LMAO
I live in a similar region in Murka, you have no idea how dumb that sounds. My own miniscule county has over half a million acres of farmland.

What is the correct number of acres gained per dead Slav to make a meatgrinder worth it? It’s not like Russia needs more agricultural land.

Far from it. PCR has been sharp on this story for 10 years. He understands the subtler details, which people who know less might miss. He is not a believer in Western propaganda, nor in pro-Russian propaganda—that is, complete worship of Putin. If Putin is perfect, why is Russian patriot Igor Strelkov in jail?

I agree with PCR’s assessment. Russian patriot Igor Strelkov is in jail for advocating a stronger approach to the war. While I’m generally sympathetic with Putin and the Russian cause, the Kremlin has taken a ham-fisted approach to defending Donbass, while at the same time exhibiting indecisiveness, always deadly in a war zone. It’s a tragedy for the people of Donetsk and Lugansk.
