Baby Boomers remember Abbott & Costello’s, famous comedy skit, “Who’s on first?”

Grunge.com explains:

“Lou Costello,…appeared lively and fun in his comedy bits, but behind the laughter was a life marred by tragedy.

…. Despite this success,…(he) experienced a darker side of life.

In November 1943, Costello had just returned from a six-month absence from TV. He had been sidelined with rheumatic fever after touring…different army bases. He arrived at the NBC studios…and received the worst news imaginable for a father — his son had died.

His infant son Lou, Jr. …wandered towards the swimming pool, fell in and drowned. …. Costello was heartbroken.

…. Lou Costello was a comedy legend — and an influence on generations of future comedians. Like many of the best, beneath his humor was great pain, but he managed to overcome it, as only the best can.”

Sadly, two years after the IRS bankrupted him, Costello died from a heart attack at 52.

Johnny Carson interviewed Buddy Hackett, who played Lou Costello in the movie, Bud & Lou, Comedy is No Laughing Matter. Hackett loved Costello and the influence he had on his life, sharing this personal story.

Hackett was summoned to the hospital by Lou Costello. When he arrived, he sat quietly as Costello was sleeping. He eventually opened his eyes, grinned, nodded toward Hackett and said, “Don’t let the bastards get you down!” He went back to sleep and died soon after.

Good Advice!

Subscriber Robert G. sent an article Financial Stress Could Impact Your Health More Than Grief:

“Financial strain can impact far more than just a person’s mental health.

A nationally representative study…found evidence that stress over money is tied to long-term changes in key health markers, including those associated with the immune system, the nervous system, and the hormonal system.

…. Of all six common stressors examined in this cohort – including financial strain, caregiving, disability, bereavement, illness, and divorce – financial strain was associated with the riskiest health profiles in the long run.”

Too late. We passed that exit a couple of states back. Now we’re ALL just gonna have to deal with it as it lays.

Philippians 4:8 KJB… “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.“

Perfect.

I started out the day thinking on things that were false- the entire Russia/USA fake war- and then went out and started feeding animals in the sunshine and all of that vanished.

And now I find this beautiful passage.

Thank you.

We’re doing a small remodel of our home and I made a small mistake but was able to correct it fairly easily. I was feeling a little bad about that but then we went to church yesterday to prepare for Pascha. We are eastern orthodox, our Easter is May 5th this year so we helped decorate the parish for Palm Sunday. Last week there were 13 pregnant women in our parish. Yesterday there were 10 because 3 gave birth between Tuesday night and Wednesday night. Thursday was a warm sunny day with a nice breeze and as I helped our fellow parishioners get ready to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ I realized once again that with the birth of three babies, life does go on and I shouldn’t worry about some minor mistake I made. Everyone was happy about three healthy babies joining us and we all left in a great mood.

They’re probably so full of holes there isn’t a target left.
