No. I shopped for a family of 4 through the 80’s. That’s about $50 of stuff in the basket.

The pasta was about 80 cents, corn flakes 1.50, coffee 3.50. etc.

Quit exaggerating.

Those are name brands.

Along the way from there, they started shifting from brand names like Kellogg to ‘generic.’ Because, as money tightens, they said, ‘a family would choose the cheaper version.’

So, you can’t do a direct conversion. If it was all generics, it would be about $40.

This was to hide the actual inflation rate of the dollar, in terms of something a lot of people used to gauge the ‘price of a cart of groceries.’ Or as it turns out, a kabuki theater for political talking points.

Also, even in Mayberry, RFD, in 1980, very few homemakers looked quite like her. But the point is taken – plus, as the other poster mentions, it is barely food, in any historical sense.

Environmentalism In America Is Dead

It has been replaced by climatism and renewable energy fetishism.

The movement birthed by Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring in the early 1960s and Earth Day in the 1970s — a movement that once aimed to protect landscapes, wildlands, whales, and wildlife — has morphed into the NGO-corporate-industrial-climate complex. Rather than preserve wildlands and wildlife, today’s “green” NGOs have devolved into a sprawling network of nonprofit and for-profit groups aligned with big corporations, big banks, and big law firms. In the name of climate change, these NGOs want to pave vast swaths of America’s countryside with oceans of solar panels and forests of 600-foot-high wind turbines. They are also promoting the industrialization of our oceans, a move that could put hundreds of massive offshore wind turbines in the middle of some of our best fisheries and right atop known habitat of the critically endangered North Atlantic Right Whale.

Harrison Butker has no regrets and did not ask for an apology from KC city hall after they “joked” on twitter that he lives in Lees Summit. Even so the city keeps saying they will not apologize. This is a 5 minute speech he recently gave at a Catholic academy about the whole “controversy”.

I had the pleasure of working at a small (20 wells) oilfield in the 80s. It was like operating a giant machine where most of it is invisible, as everything was happening 2000′ below the surface. You had to use your imagination and have a working knowledge of geology, fluid dynamics and geometric mathematics. It’s a fascinating industry.

It is essentially the same thing as the piezo lighters on your barbecue or water heater (push and “click”) or the spark ignition on your electric stove.

It is just static electricity used to light a flammable gas. This is why they want you to fill gas cans on the ground, rather than on the bed of your pick-up. Your pick-up is insulated by the tires, your gas can on the ground is grounded from static electricity.

This is also why when you are working on circuit boards you should regularly ground yourself to metal or the earth, so you won’t risk shoritng out a sensitive component.
