US strike on Russian targets would be ‘start of world war’ – Medvedev

Via RT

The ex-president’s warning comes after Poland said Washington would hit Russian targets if Moscow were to use nukes in Ukraine

Any US attack on Russian targets in Ukraine would automatically trigger a world war, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has warned.

The official, who currently serves as Deputy Chair of Russia’s Security Council, made the remarks after Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski claimed Washington had threatened to conduct such a strike should Russia use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, Medvedev suggested that Sikorski “apparently, has decided to scare his masters.” He noted that Washington, unlike Warsaw, has so far refrained from making any such threats publicly “because they are more cautious” than the Poles.

“Americans hitting our targets means starting a world war, and a Foreign Minister, even of a country like Poland, should understand that,” Medvedev added.

The former Russian president also cited remarks made by Polish President Andrzej Duda last month, when he said his country would be willing to host US nuclear weapons if offered such an opportunity under NATO’s sharing mechanism. Medvedev warned that in case of a nuclear confrontation “Warsaw won’t be left out, and will surely get its share of radioactive ash,” asking if this is the outcome the Polish leadership really wants.

On Saturday in an interview with the Guardian newspaper, Sikorski expressed skepticism regarding a hypothetical Russian nuclear strike in Ukraine.

“The Americans have told the Russians that if you explode a nuke, even if it doesn’t kill anybody, we will hit all your targets [positions] in Ukraine with conventional weapons, we’ll destroy all of them,” he claimed, describing the presumed warning as a “credible threat.” The Polish diplomat alleged that China and India have also warned Russia against a nuclear escalation.

The minister also suggested that Ukraine’s Western backers should allow Kiev to use their weapons to strike military targets on Russian territory as “apart from not using nuclear weapons, [Moscow] does not limit itself much.”

According to Sikorski, the EU should not be afraid to escalate the situation, and should not impose limits on itself regarding the Ukraine conflict, so that Moscow is left guessing what the next step will be.

While the US and its allies have on several occasions accused Moscow of nuclear saber-rattling, President Vladimir Putin insisted in March that at no point during the Ukraine conflict has Russia considered using such weapons. Around the same time, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stressed that Russia’s nuclear doctrine envisages the use of weapons of mass destruction only “if something threatens the existence of our country,” echoing a previous statement by the head of state. The official also described the deterrent as a “farewell weapon.”

During his annual address to the Federal Assembly in late February, Putin warned would-be aggressors that the nuclear arsenal was in a state of “complete readiness for guaranteed deployment.”

Earlier this month, the Russian leader ordered an exercise in the use of tactical nuclear weapons in the Southern Military District, which borders Ukraine. According to statements by the Foreign and Defense Ministries, the exercises were meant as a warning to the US and its allies, following escalatory rhetoric from the West.

All this talk about Russian first use of a tactical nuke (when they have no need to) sounds like the Americans are thinking of using a tactical nuke. Nothing else could reverse Ukraine’s certain loss and America would blame it on Russia. Besides, which county is the one run by lunatics?

The war is more or less stagnant since late in 2022. The lines have barely moved, a few fortified towns have been taken. Kiev isn’t being taken. Is it you who always mentions Odessa? It isn’t being taken.

Would you agree that this will get decided at the negotiation table or an internal revolt, not by outright conquest?

There is zero need for Russia to push combat lines. Its a war of attrition and Russia is calmly bleeding the west on munitions, treasure and blood. Russia has stated numerous times its not about expansionism, as they continuously demonstrate. Its usausa propaganda and constant prodding the bear that the west is doing thats the issues. The usausa NEEDS a war to renege on their debt

When the west is in its final throes of death is when it will ultimately be decided. Currently Russia does not have a first strike doctrine, the usausa does. So who do you think will go scorched earth, hint – it isn’t Russia

>>>Russia has stated numerous times its not about expansionism…

I suspect that Russia’s major, non-belligerent “quasi-allies” (specifically India and China) were assured that Russia’s goal is not the incorporation of all Ukraine into the RF… which would be far more trouble than it would be worth, anyway.

Exactly where the final Ukraine-Russia border is drawn is really up to Ukraine to determine; if Kiev and its Western masters insist on a ‘no-negotiation’ posture, Russia may feel compelled to occupy enough (or all) of Ukraine, to make the position of a Kiev government irrelevant. But they won’t annex the entire country, which would cost them a lot of China-India-Third World support (or at least tolerance).

My 2 cents.

Its expensive to occupy a country. Russia learned a valuable lesson in Afghanistan that I’m sure they don’t want to repeat. But like you say, occupy enough to make a kiev govt irrelevant

Russia has more men in Ukraine than they had in Afghanistan. They have lost many more men then in Afghanistan. Hell, Wagner lost roughly as many men as Russia did in Afghanistan.

They are in the third year now.

What was the lesson again?

But Ukrainians and Russians have the same blood. How does literally bleeding out a brother country turn into a positive?

If they don’t want to expand (and I agree on that) what does figuratively bleeding NATO do for them?

This is absurd.

There is zero need for Russia to push combat lines”

Then why are they doing it?

One of the events that disabused George Orwell of his love of communism was when the Soviets in their aid of the Spanish Communists bombed a Spanish village and blamed in on the Fascists….similar to that is when Uncle Schlomo was murdering Vietnamese villagers and blaming it Vietcong in a operation dubbed the Phoenix Program… an then there is Operation Gladio conducted in Western Europe that saw civilians murdered in the extreme, much of which was blamed on Marxist as well and many more example. There is no Left or Right, only profit and power driven killers who seek control over everything, regardless of how many innocent lives are snuffed out of existence.
A pox on all these assholes. We can’t believe anything from any official “government” side.

A better question would be, “which country is not run by lunatics?” Both countries believe that world population needs to decrease via war, feminism, abortion and homosexuality as stated in United Nations Convention Resolution. Now you can add vaccines to the list of population reducers.

Sounds like Sikorski has learned one of our Neocon warmongering favorite tricks that we’ve used for years: “Let’s you and them fight”. Our leaders are so stupid they will likely fall for their own trick.

Ukraine War Update – Memorial Day Weekend, 2024

The evidence is clear to me that what we are seeing is a 100% NATO operation

As best I can gather, five American ATACMS missiles were used earlier this week in a short-range attack against a Russian S-300 air defense battery recently repositioned in Donetsk region. At least one of the missiles got through and scattered the contents of its cluster munitions warhead, destroying some elements of the battery…

It is not clear to me how meaningful it is to Crimean air defense. It may have limited utility in that respect.

But the following things occur to me as I consider the development of events in recent weeks, since the introduction into Ukraine of more ATACMS missiles and the notable appearance of relatively large numbers of improved long-range attack drones:

The evidence is clear to me that what we are seeing is a 100% NATO operation. Sure, they might have a handful of Ukrainian orderlies to fetch coffee and sandwiches and whatnot, but otherwise it’s probably 85% American, 10% British, and 4% French “volunteer specialists” running the entire show — from target selection to ISR to pressing the “Fire” button on a control panel.

So, to a degree arguably unprecedented in this war, we are now seeing a direct battlefield engagement between NATO forces and Russian forces.

they chose to use FIVE of them [ATACMS] to attack a single S-300 battery! This is VERY telling.”

“The storehouse of NATO weaponry has been attrited to an astounding and entirely unforeseen extent — almost to the point of effective exhaustion for many of the European NATO countries.”

The doublethink would be astounding, if this wasn’t a guy who has the name of a talmudic being in his blog’s name.
