Chicago needs Wyatt Earp

The last few days have seen an astonishing explosion of violence in the city of Chicago.
Two nights ago, 4 were killed and 15 wounded in a spree where 13 of those victims were shot in just 1/2 an hour.
Last night, one was killed and 16 wounded in another spasm of violence. So far this August, there have been 50 homicides in the city, 15 more than occurred in August, 2011.
This website gives the gory details. Hundreds have been wounded in addition to the record number of homicides.
Meanwhile, police arrested 20 “juveniles” for “rowdy” behavior along the Magnificent Mile. Kids were pushing pedestrians, darting in and out of traffic as police pursued the gang up and down Michigan avenue.
The city is being rocked by lawlessness. Simply put, the streets are unsafe anywhere. There have been a lot of theories about why the sudden outbreak of violence is occurring. Blame is being assigned to Mayor Emanuel or the economic situation that has meant far fewer jobs for young men.
It hardly matters. The question is, what should be done about it?
If Chicago is going to act like a wild west town, they need a wild west solution; Wyatt Earp. Or at least someone with his hard headed, single mindedness (if not his tactics in keeping the peace which could be quite brutal).
Earp and his brother enforced the law. It really is that simple sometimes. New York liberals went ballistic when Mayor Rudy Guiliani began to arrest graffiti “artists,” turnstile jumpers, vandals, and other petty criminals, enforcing laws that had rarely been enforced under previous mayors. It appeared to work. The message that the law would be enforced — along with federal prison guidelines that took violent criminals off the streets for longer periods of time — drove New York’s crime rate down significantly.
Might something like that work in Chicago? Rahmbo better try something quickly. Chicago is turning into a shooting gallery and citizens are living in fear that the next outbreak of violence may target them or their loved ones.

Cops: 2 dozen young people arrested in Near North disturbances

Two dozen young people were arrested after causing disturbances near and on the Magnificent Mile Saturday afternoon, Chicago police said this morning.
Of those arrested, 20 were juveniles and four were adults after the incidents Saturday evening, police said. Most were cited or charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct.
No injuries were reported though scores of police officers criss-crossed the city’s Near North Side, including on the Gold Coast, responding to numerous calls regarding rowdy teens pushing aside pedestrians and darting into traffic along North Michigan Avenue near Chicago Avenue, according to witnesses and police.
Those arrested were involved in incidents at several locations, including the northeast and southeast corners of Michigan and Chicago Avenues and near State Street and Chicago Avnue. When officers assigned to a North Michigan Avenue detail tried to arrest several of them, they darted out in front of moving cars to try to evade arrest on Michigan Avenue.
In one related incident, a 14-year-old girl was arrested at 8 p.m. after throwing tea on a security guard at a McDonald’s at 20 E. Chicago Avenue, police said.
In the end, officers took about two-dozen youth into custody, charging most of them as juveniles with reckless conduct, said Officer Ronald Gaines, a police spokesman.

I’ve lived on the north side of Chicago for the past 7 years, and honestly, it doesn’t seem like anything depressionary has happened. Hearing stories of audible semi-automatic gunfire in neighborhoods ten years ago, I’d say some things are better now. Flash mobs have been showing up at ‘L’ stations for a few years, but could one argue that kids will be kids? Real estate sites show tons of foreclosed properties, but most neighborhoods seem unchanged with rehabbed and new construction buildings still popping up. Knowing the other shoe is about to drop, I am bracing for the shoot-em-up fun to move into better neighborhoods.

When looked at closely, however, the “official story” of things can be seen to be inaccurate, misleading, often hardly believable if not downright stupid.
Examples of this: Iraq’s non-existent WMD’s leading to the invasion and destruction of that country; global mega-banker bail-outs with taxpayer money; irrational US diplomatic, military, financial and ideological alignment to Israeli objectives; “we-killed-Osama-Bin-Laden-and-dumped-his-body-into-the-sea”; and the wide array of “whodunits” surrounding 9/11 in New York and Washington, 7/7 in London, the AMIA/Israeli Embassy attacks in Buenos Aires in 1992/1994, and – of course – that all time favorite: who shot JFK…?
These are but a few of the paradigmatic cases that have at least served to trigger millions of people to wake up and think with their own minds instead of the mainstream media’s! But unfortunately the vast majority of such cases are not so clear-cut. The vast majority of Newspeak lies are like knots, difficult to untie as they carry built-in complexity resembling Gordian Knots. My wife dragged me out to the “upscale” mall Saturday night for the first time in probably a decade that we had gone to the mall on a weekend, and I was pretty floored at what I saw. The atmosphere/vibe felt just like Va Beach just before the 1989 Greekfest race riots broke out. I suspect there is a lot of violence going on across America that the press doesn’t report as well as powder kegs of violence just missing a final catalyst. Mix such huge unemployment for minority teens with the modern FSA/MTV culture (instant gratification with no consequences) and it spells trouble. It’s just a matter of time before some group of teens fucks with the wrong guy or gal out there somewhere, and a dozen of them get mowed down. This is NOT going to end well.

I sat down and turned on the tv last evening with a magazine in hand. Some flag football thing promoting the new madden game was on in chicago. They interview some celebs and fans and all they can talk about is what a great city chicago is and how polite and nice everyone has been.
I then look down at my magazine adn the cover story is about how chicago is outpacing DC so far this year in murders.

WTF did you think was going to happen, in Chicago and every other city?
You (democrats, politicians) reward people for having children (70% out of wedlock) with 18 years of free shit, free healthcare, free OB and delivery, free food and housing, cash. Then, a whole generation grows up with deadbeat worthless parent(s), no dad (baby daddy’s), no education, no values except getting free shit. Kids think their job in life is to get free shit, so they start selling drugs, committing crime, and murdering.
The opposite did happen: if you’ve read “Freakanomics”, a whole generation of criminals was wiped out when abortion became legal. Crime rates went way down. But now, useless people are reproducing and getting paid to do so, people that give birth to criminals, in a society where all values, morals, ethics, and spirit are dead (vis-a-vis the baby boomers). Our society is reaping the rewards of a massively failed “great society” experiment. Fuck LBJ with a telephone pole.
The best part? We’ve spent $16 trillion dollars on these breeders and their offspring. Government eugenics, and Chicago is the capital of the FSA (at least the South side). They, along with the West side Mexican gangs, will overrun the city and make it uninhabitable, just like Detroit.
Drought, war, earthquakes, pestilence, civil unrest and we get hauled away without warrent to psychiatric hospitals for evaluations if we complain about our government on our facebook page.
What a future for mankind, When I was a young man I had such hope and grand expectations for my children and grand children.

I lived in Chicago from the late sixties to the late seventies, working mostly evenings as a free-lance musician. It was not unknown to see puddles of blood on the sidewalks and in parking garages in the Gold Coast. And dead bodies on the ELs.
Gangs of Blacks used to walk four abreast on the sidewalks on State Street and force people into the bus-clogged street during the day. The Loop was deserted at night except for the theater crowd. Most of the people I knew (including some very powerful executives) were always well-armed when making their commute from their offices to the commuter stations. And narry a cop was to be seen.
Where were the cops, you ask? They were in the hood rounding up the gang bangers. Said bangers were then given a free ride to a fire station on the Calumet River whereupon they were treated to the ills of their ways or just shot, wrapped in chicken wire, loaded on a fire boat and dumped in Lake Michigan about two miles east of the South Side water intake plant. By the mid-Eighties the Loop was being revitalized, people were moving back in and life was less violent.
(The Philly equivalent of this effort was Frank Rizzo and Wilson “Mad Bomber” Goode. Great guys and all around patriots. And in LA it was the LAPD. You see, we do live in a black and white world. Decisions really aren’t all that complicated to make.)
Thus, Chicago did have a Wyatt Earp at one time and his name was Richard Daley. But, of course, we are much more civilized now. We understand the plight of the poor and do so want to help them to achieve the American dream. Don’t we?

I’ve been extremely comfortable and safe on the north side of Chicago for 25 years, and I live on the FAR north, where there are more “marginal” pockets and where I’ve attended a number of noisy public safety meetings that are convened when a spate of gang violence occurs.
The recent crime wave on the tony, uber-wealthy near north came as a big surprise, after 20 years of safety. These people are a very insulated and powerful population used to getting their way and being well-protected by local law enforcement, so no one was ready for the gangs of delinquent youths from the south side who have been generating mini-wildings on Michigan Ave. I think that is changing as I write and I expect that the 42nd Ward alderman is getting a lot of heat from these people. I’m really surprised there isn’t more reaction among them, because in my neck of the woods, we would be having more frantic meetings with a lot of screaming.
I like Chicago, and I’ve enjoyed a high level of safety, comfort, and amenity here. I live in a very “walkable” neighborhood with an array of retail, restaurants, and services, close to the el and to public transit to the suburbs. I am never bothered. I am of course vigilant and cautious, having lived in much more dangerous cities, but I don’t live in terror.
Is this place perfect? No, nowhere near. It’s much, much better than my native St. Louis, which is almost down there with Detroit.. You can enjoy city life here, which you can’t at all in those places. Thanks to the wartime industries that drew hundreds of thousands of rural farm workers and share-cropppers up here and other northern cities to work in factories during WW2 and then sloughed them off during the 50s and 60s, we have hundreds of thousands of their descendants, who are no better adapted to urban life than their grandparents were, and just as illiterate. Those who were white assimilated, or at least their children did, while the blacks isolated themselves in their ghettos. Middle class blacks understandably left all that behind, leaving their poor, illiterate counterparts to fester in these places.
My great fear for my city is that Rahm Immanuel will finish Daley the Younger’s dismal work and bankrupt this city with his corporate “gimmes” – TIF districts and outright subsidies in the tens of millions of $$$ for companies who are net tax recipients instead of taxpayers.
