POLICE SHOOT OLD MAN REACHING FOR HIS CANE

Cop Shoots 70-year-old Man Reaching for Walking Stick

A police officer from Columbia, South Carolina is under investigation for shooting a 70-year-old motorist after he mistook the man’s cane for a rifle during a routine traffic stop, AP reported. [3]

Bobby Canipe of North Carolina was pulled over by 24-year-old Deputy Terrence Knox for an expired license tag.  When Canipe got out of the pickup truck to reach into the bed for his walking stick, Knox fired several times hitting the man once, under the mistaken belief the walking stick was a long-barreled rifle.

York County sheriff spokesperson, Trent Farris, appeared to defend the officer’s actions:

“The situation is very unfortunate,” Faris said.  “It does appear, at this time, that Deputy Knox’s actions were an appropriate response to what he reasonably believed to be an imminent threat to his life.”

The incident is currently under investigation and Knox, a deputy for almost three years, has been placed on leave. No charges have been filed yet.

The victim was taken to a hospital in Charlotte North Carolina where he is expected to survive.

Now that he government is desperate & broke, it is slowly treating everyone like an inner city minority criminal. Cops out west shot & killed a white guy who was unarmed & going back into his car. He had taken cops on a chase, but death is not warranted. They fired about 20 times. He had his hands up. Minority & poor people have been complaining about this treatment for a long time, but people excused it. Now, the government is going to come after anyone resisting.

It’s like the quote by Pastor Niemoller about how they came for people & I did nothing, then when they came for me there was no 1 left to help me defend myself.

Now we get equality, but not the kind everyone wanted. Jackboots on the neck.

It must have been one of those assault canes.

The Dirty Harry syndrome. The Police got bored just abusing Neegrows and Taco Benders and decided to expand the fun to the White community. Just remember that these half wit sociopaths will do anything their superiors command of them , Constitution be dammed.

A chase? Old dude problably didn’t hear the siren (being high pitched, and most hearing loss in elderly occurs in the high notes). Geezus its getting BAD when Ma and Pa Kettle are determined to be threats that require neutralization at gunpoint.

Are you sure this Fourth Turning isn’t on a faster trajectory than previous ones?

The most important aspect of this sad, sad episode isn’t that the LEO was bloodthirsty–he wasn’t, and I believe truly regretted his own actions; the scary thing is that his first instinct was that the elderly man was reaching for a shotgun, not a walking stick. Has our society degraded to the point that it is first assumed by law enforcement that every one of our citizens, including those who are elderly or infirm, is an armed threat? This incident, more than any I’ve seen or read about, slaps me in the face and forces me to discard the “normalcy bias” that I struggle with every day.

“he wasn’t, and I believe truly regretted his own actions” — Axel

And, that’s supposed to make the old man feel better?

“Hey Grandpa? I’m really sorry I shot you for no reason. No harm no foul, right? If I didn’t suck so bad with a handgun, you’d be dead… so there’s that. Howabout we just blow this whole thing off?”

I don’t give a fuck if he felt regret at shooting an unarmed man. I really don’t. If someone is so fucking incompetent that they cannot tell the difference between a doddering old man and a stick and some other guy who is a genuine threat, then they don’t have any business whatsoever working as a Copfuk… matter of fact, they should ALL be put through a psychological evaluation to make sure they’re not suffering from paranoid delusions or some bullshit that will cause them to just start doing things, like shooting unarmed old people…

I was driving a low-rider for a while and I got to meet several of our local sheriff deputies. the 3 times they stopped me, they let me go as soon as I explained that I traded my car with my daughter because she has a kid. the older cops usually said that was a nice gesture.

the 4th time I got pulled over, a young skinny cop approached and asked if I was on probation. his partner was at my passenger side door. I said, no, never. I again explained why I was driving this gangster-mobile and all the dude said was, why’d you do that? he asked, do you know why I stopped you? I said, the muffler (it was a fart-can). he said it was because I had a scent strip hanging from the rear view mirror.

Why did the victim get out of the truck? That is an invitation for trouble. Most cops want you to stay in your vehicle. Still a VERY unfortunate situation for all involved with this incident.

The 70 year old man got out of his truck because back in his day cops were peace officers and they were there to serve and protect.

Most of the fuckers wearing the badge today are Law Enforcement, and they will enforce the law by any means, that is what’s truly unfortunate for all of us.

Card, you’re right… and it used to be, cops appreciated having people get out of their vehicles to talk to them face-to-face. It showed trust, indicated that the driver wasn’t under the influence and that they had nothing to hide.

Now officers want you to sit there like a cowed animal. And I can’t believe all the people I’ve seen commenting on other news stories that support this cop, mostly because he cried. Even when people point out that the cop should have told Canipe to “drop his weapon” before firing, that “Sir!” and “Hey!” aren’t enough, they still say the cop did the right thing. Unbelievable.

Cops had their asses kicked in school as kids. The only reason you become a cop is to throw your weight around. The job doesn’t pay shit, show me a cop I will show you an idiot.

the main issue for me is the double standard.
for instance:
i am driving behind the elderly man, he slams on his brakes and i rear end him lightly. we both pull off to the side of the road. if i see him getting out and when he reaches for his cane i suspect it is a firearm so i should him.
what happens to me? I would rightly be charged for a long list of things ranging from assault to potentially murder (if the man died).

what will likely happen to this officer? likely an “investigation”, stamp of approval from other copfuks, an a short paid vacation.
why is teh officer treated in a manner different than that?
because their perceived safety trumps the real safety of the rest of us non-copfuks.
it’s not the way it always has been and isn’t that way everywhere yet, but it is the trend.

That double standard is what’s fucking up the USA. The rule of law only applies to some people. When the rule of law goes, everything else follows.

Looks like no way to avoid the 2nd American Revolution. The president is threatening to veto a law saying he should obey the law.

The only group I can see motivated and cohesive enough to effectively challenge the status quo is the producers/workers of this nation. Simply saying the hell with packing everyone else around would do it. The gov. has everyone else bought off.

As stated I have cops in my building and I have never thought they were out of line when taking someone down, that being said, these cops are not bright individuals. They work ears down, if they weren’t cops they would have a shovel in their hand. I could see them making bad decisions out on the street. Not to mention I could whip the shit out of three or four of them together, all very small, overweight fat fucks. Stupid, short, fat, pussies with guns, see the problem yet.

last cop I saw up close was about 5’7 wearing size 7 shoes.

my buddy said he met a dude who was a cop, it impressed him that the cop had the tiniest of hands, the guy had to hold his drink with both hands.

to be fair, I believe admin posted the video of a cop who got killed by a motorist who refused to obey the officer’s orders.

This, the old lady tazed in her bed in Oklahoma, the Vietnam Vet tazed to death in Brooklyn IN HIS OWN HOME, what more will it take to make people realize that the days when cops were are friends, cared about the communities they served and had REASONING abilities are long, long, gone.

Thankfully my father has stopped driving and I no longer have to worry about a traffic stop gone tragically wrong, but the rest of you should sit down with any elders you care about and have a come to Jesus talk about interacting with the cops.

Then have it with every young person too.

Informing people that they are no longer viewed as “citizens,” but now “threats,” may save some lives.

Do I like the fact that if contacted by cops I have to grovel, swallow real fear, and move & speak slowly to keep from being killed?

No, no I do not.

But, I like my life and cops are no longer are protectors, they are our fucking jailors.

As this elderly couple learned, this is not negotiable in the good ole’ USSA.

And, of course, “they” hate us for our freedoms. What a load of crap.

What are suppose to do when you are an obese government educated bureaucrat. You cannot beat him in a fight. You are to fat. You can’t talk him down. Remember government educated. So if you do not want to be caned to death you must shoot to preserve your life.
