Going out on a limb here, but I’m pretty sure that’s a Japanese kid.
Probably the dad’s intent is to protect his son from worry and fear. But that kid is sharp, and obviously has mad reasoning skillz, even for his age. I found that out with my own kids when they were very young—there was no getting anything over on them.
Flowers and candles are going to protect him?? WTF? I don’t think the dad does the kid any favors by not validating his son’s feelings, and telling him some harsh truth. I bashed my kids with age-appropriate Reality and Truth, and answered their inquisitions honestly (even when I hated to “destroy their innocence”). As young adults, they’re tuned in to reality, they’re just about as cynical as I am, and except for having a phone in their faces way too much, they don’t resemble their snowflake millennial peers at all.
They will know shortly. Read an article yesterday saying that France would be 40%Moslems in 20 years. If that article was correct then that kid is doomed.
