I wanted to write my new article today. I haven’t been able to focus because of the departure of Smokey and Stuck. This is a tough site with strong personalities. I find it to be entertaining and intellectually stimulating. I like the brawls and no holds barred flamefests. I would never want to become the school teacher telling people to behave. I’ve had nasty battles with Stuck and Smokey. I’ve gotten really pissed off with both of them. But, we’ve always let bygones be bygones.
The departure of these two intelligent, funny, and caring people from this site will hurt the site tremendously. I’ll let Johnny Cash doing Nine Inch Nails sum up my feelings today.

Sorry to read about StuckInNewJersy’s son and I wish the two of them the best.Sadly this isn’t the only personal problem Stuck’s written about on this site or another. He’s just a name on a comment line but over the years he’s become an online acquaintance. One never wants his acquaintances or friends to suffer.
Give and take and some witty name-calling makes good reading. Churlish language and comments don’t. Stuck mostly and Smokey most certainly need sharpen their pens so they don’t write boringly with blunt nibs. I agree with AKAnon, Stuck and Smokey will be back before long. Hopefully when they return they’ll be better not baneful again.

While I have a general idea of what will hold up and what will get crushed I don’t spend time on predictions – with 196 countries, most run by loons and 7 billion people and mother nature – I personally feel there are too many variables to even pin the tail on the donkey. I give credit to those who write their thoughts out though.

I’ll miss both Stuck and Smokey. I liked them both.
Blogs, to me are like families. I have a SIL, I get not everyone will get along or agree. I left CM’s site. My heart goes out to them both, there are a lot of great people on the CM site I truly miss.
As much as I dislike Smokey’s tactics, he certainly does add color to the conversation. While he’s an insufferable blowhard, and his incessant references to his long shlong are downright tiresome, I hope he makes a triumphant return.

There have been many days these past two months that I have spent crying over my son’s predicament. Some days I blame him. More often I blame myself for failing him. Some days I realize neither is true. Most days I’m just lost and confused.
Ms. Freud asks me why do I bare by soul for the world to see … over the internet … to people I will never meet. Perhaps it’s as Davos said … that we are all a family. I do know that the exercise of writing about my grief is cathartic.
Sometimes it’s easier to express feelings to a “stranger” than it is a family member. When someone responds with, “I know what you’re going through because x, y, or z ..”, well … suddenly I don’t feel like I’m all alone in this journey. Being alone in grief is the Greatest Curse. But walking with someone who shares the burden is the Greatest Blessing.
And when someone actually offers encouragement, well .. spilling my guts on the internet seems all worth while … the touch of a human hand streaming over the internet via little pixels. It is a comfort beyond understanding.
We exhibit the family aspect of this forum because we fight. All families fight.
And, so, I lashed out at Smokey because he didn’t respond as I wanted him too. If he couldn’t feel my grief, I wanted him to at least respect my grief. That was MY mistake. That was foolish. I reacted out of pure emotion. I am the one who put my son’s problem out there for everyone to see. Thus, I should have been willing to accept both positive and negative responses. People do have a right to respond however they want … not just the way I want. Somehow, I forgot all about that.
So, Smokey, if you’re reading this, I apologize. Once things settle down here I’ll resume posting regularly again. I hope you do as well.

Shadows/surly1: No, I’m not nearly as funny as Smokey. When coming to this site I could be assured the opportunity of clicking a “Smokey On…” and getting a true, belly full of laughter. He was the Grand Master Blaster. So while I lamented his loss, I looked around for those who would gloat and fired away. Brann was one of them. Too bad for brann. I don’t take that back. This shit has nothing to do with me and I have neither the ability or energy to even attempt at replacing Smokey. I will, however, do what little I can to defend the legacy of who is a necessary… yes I do say necessary… presence on the comment board. Without him things will change, but if you really think about it, it may not be for the better. I really hope that the balls haven’t been clipped from this site.
That being said, let me assume that you’re all older, maybe in your fifties and up. Well, that dynamic, that image of old men in smoking jackets having a quiet conversation over their tea and crumpets will not cut the mustard in my opinion. It has it’s place, but a scene like that needs a shakeup every now and again. I’m not kidding. I hope you all realize that.

I have enjoyed reading your posts, and can see by reading between the lines that you have had your share of knocks, but have not lost your compassion for your fellow man.
I too have been accused of wearing my heart on my sleeve. I find conversations with folks that have had no hardships in their lives very un-fulfilling, down right boring, and these people are least well suited well to deal with any adversity….(they are the ones that jump out the window when they lose their fortune). Show me someone that has dealt with some real shit and I find them fasinating. Alot can be learned from them. You know how they will act under fire. Heoric behaviour can only be revealed in times of extreme duress.

Stuck and Smokey are Titans on this site. This site is my goto site. I’ve had it opened in a tab for years, since the RD days. The articles are awesome. The comments are funnier than shit. The napalm keeps bible-thumpers, truthers and misinformation from infecting the threads. Sometimes I catch napalm. I’ve thumbs-upped most of Smokey’s bombs, even if I percieved the napalm to be at me.
