Finally a kindred spirit shows up. The chart says we INFPs perform noble service to save society. INTJs merely want to mess with everything.

I have taken the MB three times for three different employers and scored as an INTJ each time.

The first time around I was accused of “faking it” – I HAD TO BE an extrovert – and this startled me. I knew I was an introvert but it seemed everyone else thought otherwise so I did a bit of research and discovered that it is an Extroverted world, the “bennies” come to those that play along in an extroverted way so obviously I had figured out how to “act” extroverted to get the bennies I desired.

Also – it was very validating. INTJ females are not that common and it has been a life time of not really getting the social aspects of things – like there is a game going on and I never really understand the rules.

It appears the people who frequent TBP are a rare breed. I suppose this makes sense because the people in the most common categories would never seek out a site like this. These are the delusional masses that line up for hours outside a Wal-Mart and voted for Obama.

@Gayle – the way I take M-B psychometric typing is that one’s strengths are one’s weaknesses. In other words, if a strength of your type is ‘Spontaneity’ then you probably have a weakness in ‘Long range planning’. If you have a strength in ‘Innovation’ you probably have a weakness in ‘Maintaining the status quo’. If you have a strength in ‘Loyalty’ you have a weakness in ‘Rebelling from unjust/unhealthy institutions and relationships’. Each strength is a double-edged sword, and in a specific situation will either help you excell or will make it harder for you to ‘do the right thing’.

There is a place for all of us in this world, and every type can be a blessing to the whole when they express themselves in a healthy manner and find the right niche that employs their strengths. No type is ‘good or bad’ per se. Each individual has to find their own best path to using their gifts according to the mandates of their own character.

TBP has always felt like an INTJ hangout. I enjoy it because of the characters and viewpoints of the individual INTJs who post here… But I would bet that a lot of INTJs also masterminded Derivatives Trading.

The nature of TBP is going to likely appeal primarily to INxx types – Introverts would rather interact impersonally and in writing, so the Internet is natural for that. Intuitives trust their ‘gut instincts’ over their physical senses, so regardless of what is fed through the mass media an Intuitive is more likely to trust their instinct that shit ain’t right with the world over the external messages to the contrary. And finally, INTJ would be the classic TBP type because INTJ are “system builders”. INTJ can take vast quantities of information and data and organize it into a logical system to make sense of it all. The same “types” who can come up with crazy stuff like Derivatives Trading and Fractional Reserves are going to be the same types who can decode and debunk it and then present that information within a system that easily makes sense to the rest of us. As they say “it takes one to know one”. In the end, none of us can blame or credit our MB type for anything – as individuals we each have a responsibility to do the best we can and speak out for the truth and good of mankind to the best of our personal abilities, whatever they may be.

I’ll be working on finding a reason to go on, dear Stucky. Remember, I have to save society.

In all seriousness, I find the results of this little study fascinating. I never would have guessed such a preponderance of one type would exist in such a “random” group. Ought to be the basis for somebody’s master’s thesis at least.

Also, because introverts are so in-their-heads, I would not expect to find the free-for-all, in-your-face verbal sparring that characterizes this happy community. I don’t really fit in, so it must be theT/F dimension that is responsible for this unease on my part. But it doesn’t matter because all you INTJs are so darn likeable and keep me well entertained.

Thanks for your response and I agree with you about “deficits”. Your analysis of the INTJ community frequenting TBP was spot on.

The world needs extroverts for sure, but boy am I glad I’m an introvert. (I’ve tested INFP for 30 years.) Some extroverts I know have an amazing capacity to talk on and on and on about NOTHING! It’s truly an amazing skill. Uh-oh, sounds like I’m identifying a deficit.

Judging:

“Do not confuse Judging with judgmental, in its negative sense about people and events. They are not related.

The following statements generally apply to me:

I like to have things decided.
I appear to be task oriented.
I like to make lists of things to do.
I like to get my work done before playing.
I plan work to avoid rushing just before a deadline.
Sometimes I focus so much on the goal that I miss new information.”

Perceiving:

“Remember, in type language perceiving means “preferring to take in information.” It does not mean being “perceptive” in the sense of having quick and accurate perceptions about people and events.

The following statements generally apply to me:

I like to stay open to respond to whatever happens.
I appear to be loose and casual. I like to keep plans to a minimum.
I like to approach work as play or mix work and play.
I work in bursts of energy.
I am stimulated by an approaching deadline.
Sometimes I stay open to new information so long I miss making decisions when they are needed.”

“Don’t confuse Feeling with emotion. Everyone has emotions about the decisions they make. Also do not confuse Thinking with intelligence.”

Thinking:

“The following statements generally apply to me:

I enjoy technical and scientific fields where logic is important.
I notice inconsistencies.
I look for logical explanations or solutions to most everything.
I make decisions with my head and want to be fair.
I believe telling the truth is more important than being tactful.
Sometimes I miss or don’t value the “people” part of a situation.
I can be seen as too task-oriented, uncaring, or indifferent.”

Feeling:

“The following statements generally apply to me:

I have a people or communications orientation.
I am concerned with harmony and nervous when it is missing.
I look for what is important to others and express concern for others.
I make decisions with my heart and want to be compassionate.
I believe being tactful is more important than telling the “cold” truth.
Sometimes I miss seeing or communicating the “hard truth” of situations.
I am sometimes experienced by others as too idealistic, mushy, or indirect.”

“Do you pay more attention to information that comes in through your five senses (Sensing), or do you pay more attention to the patterns and possibilities that you see in the information you receive (Intuition)?”

Sensing:

“Paying attention to physical reality, what I see, hear, touch, taste, and smell. I’m concerned with what is actual, present, current, and real. I notice facts and I remember details that are important to me. I like to see the practical use of things and learn best when I see how to use what I’m learning. Experience speaks to me louder than words.

The following statements generally apply to me:

I remember events as snapshots of what actually happened.
I solve problems by working through facts until I understand the problem.
I am pragmatic and look to the “bottom line.”
I start with facts and then form a big picture.
I trust experience first and trust words and symbols less.
Sometimes I pay so much attention to facts, either present or past, that I miss new possibilities.”

Intuition:

“Paying the most attention to impressions or the meaning and patterns of the information I get. I would rather learn by thinking a problem through than by hands-on experience. I’m interested in new things and what might be possible, so that I think more about the future than the past. I like to work with symbols or abstract theories, even if I don’t know how I will use them. I remember events more as an impression of what it was like than as actual facts or details of what happened.

The following statements generally apply to me:

I remember events by what I read “between the lines” about their meaning.
I solve problems by leaping between different ideas and possibilities.
I am interested in doing things that are new and different.
I like to see the big picture, then to find out the facts.
I trust impressions, symbols, and metaphors more than what I actually experienced.
Sometimes I think so much about new possibilities that I never look at how to make them a reality.”

This is a fun thread. Lots of interesting comments and some awesome graphics-I’ve had to capture a few.

Re Stucky’s testing: Yes, you obviously have too much time on your hands. But interesting. I believe the percentages reflect the degree of distinction between each subtype. That is, Stucky’s 1% reflects essentially a neutral disposition. So all those 1% and 12% numbers indicate that random answers give a random result. See also KB’s alternating yes/no comment-all “slight” or “moderate” propensities. Also, Stuck, this is why the percentages don’t add up to 100%-“stupid dicks”. Hmmm.

Thinker-I thought the questions leaned INTJ also, but if that is your perspective, wouldn’t the test so seem? It would be interesting for some computer geek (not this E-tard) to run the test a bunch of times with a random answer generator algorithm and look at the statistical results. I’m not sure that would reflect the general population though, as real people would not be answering randomly.

Admin-Were the percentages of each type you posted from the same source as the test itself? That is, are those breakdowns based on results from these actual questions?

I took the test, and this is what I got. Seems to be popular, a bunch of thinking, analytical introverts sitting around the house, alone, blogging; and, as the rest of you INTJ’s can figure out, I’m not going to read about or empathize with you, especially given there are 145 comments.

I think the test is somewhat flawed, however, since I am very judgemental, something I’m constantly working on. Being judgmental is a superior way to go through life, but it make you miserable as a side effect, because everyone is beneath you, they’re all assholes, and, well, they suck shit and you’d wish most people would just die. But that isn’t spiritual is it?

This shit is scary true. I’ve a master’s in psychology and was never taught or learned this. “Personal relationships are an INTJ’s achilles heel” Amen.

To outsiders, INTJs may appear to project an aura of “definiteness”, of self-confidence. This self-confidence, sometimes mistaken for simple arrogance by the less decisive, is actually of a very specific rather than a general nature; its source lies in the specialized knowledge systems that most INTJs start building at an early age. When it comes to their own areas of expertise — and INTJs can have several — they will be able to tell you almost immediately whether or not they can help you, and if so, how. INTJs know what they know, and perhaps still more importantly, they know what they don’t know.

INTJs are perfectionists, with a seemingly endless capacity for improving upon anything that takes their interest. What prevents them from becoming chronically bogged down in this pursuit of perfection is the pragmatism so characteristic of the type: INTJs apply (often ruthlessly) the criterion “Does it work?” to everything from their own research efforts to the prevailing social norms. This in turn produces an unusual independence of mind, freeing the INTJ from the constraints of authority, convention, or sentiment for its own sake.

INTJs are known as the “Systems Builders” of the types, perhaps in part because they possess the unusual trait combination of imagination and reliability. Whatever system an INTJ happens to be working on is for them the equivalent of a moral cause to an INFJ; both perfectionism and disregard for authority may come into play, as INTJs can be unsparing of both themselves and the others on the project. Anyone considered to be “slacking,” including superiors, will lose their respect — and will generally be made aware of this; INTJs have also been known to take it upon themselves to implement critical decisions without consulting their supervisors or co-workers. On the other hand, they do tend to be scrupulous and even-handed about recognizing the individual contributions that have gone into a project, and have a gift for seizing opportunities which others might not even notice.

Personal relationships, particularly romantic ones, can be the INTJ’s Achilles heel. While they are capable of caring deeply for others (usually a select few), and are willing to spend a great deal of time and effort on a relationship, the knowledge and self-confidence that make them so successful in other areas can suddenly abandon or mislead them in interpersonal situations.

This happens in part because many INTJs do not readily grasp the social rituals; for instance, they tend to have little patience and less understanding of such things as small talk and flirtation (which most types consider half the fun of a relationship). To complicate matters, INTJs are usually extremely private people, and can often be naturally impassive as well, which makes them easy to misread and misunderstand. Perhaps the most fundamental problem, however, is that INTJs really want people to make sense. 🙂 This sometimes results in a peculiar naivete’, paralleling that of many Fs — only instead of expecting inexhaustible affection and empathy from a romantic relationship, the INTJ will expect inexhaustible reasonability and directness.
