BANANA CREAM PIE —- you’ll think you died and went to heaven

For Gayle, and other like-minded lovers of fine pies. It’s definitely a little time consuming. Also expensive … for a pie. Not sure how you can make money on this. Lol But, damn, is it ever worth it!!  And it’s only 75 calories per slice, by my estimation.

====================================================================

STEP 1:  MAKE the GRAHAM CRUST

Do not ruin this recipe by buying cheap-ass pre-made store crusts!

Ingredients:
— 1 1/4 cups —- graham cracker crumbs
— 1/4 cup ——– walnuts, very finely chopped
— 3 Tbls ——— sugar
— 5 Tbls ——— butter, melted

Steps:

1)- Mix the four ingredients together and press firmly into a 9 ½ inch pie pan. (Optional: First lightly spray the pan with coconut oil ..keeps the crust from baking into the pan.)

2)- Heat oven to 375. Bake for 10 minutes. Cool down to room temperature.

STEP 2: MAKE the CREAM CHEESE BASE

Ingredients:

— 8 oz. —— cream cheese
— 1/3 cup — powdered sugar
— 8 oz ——- Cool Whip (do not use “real” heavy cream)

Steps:

1)- Beat together cream cheese and powdered sugar

2)- Gently fold in Cool Whip

3)- Chill in fridge for half an hour or until firmed up.

4)- After chilled, spread this layer gently on the cooled crust. (You should have at least a half inch layer).

STEP 3: MAKE THE BANANA CREAM

Ingredients:

— 3+ ripe bananas (you will have two layers of bananas. The number needed depends on how big the banana is (heh heh) and how thick you slice them. Do not use either green or overly ripe ones. The best bananas to use are those with brown spots.)
.
— 2/3 cup ——– sugar
— 1/4 tspn —— salt
— 1/4 cup ——- corn starch
.
— 1 cup ——— heavy cream
— 5 ————– egg yolks
.
— 1 1/2 cups — milk
— 1 Tblspn —– pure vanilla extract
— 2 Tblspn —– butter, melted

Steps:

1)- In medium cooking pot … combine sugar, salt, and starch. Mix it up thoroughly.

2)- In a bowl ….. whisk egg yolks and cream lightly, just to combine.

3)- Add the 1.5 cups milk to the cooking pot. Stir.

4)- Add the egg/cream mixture to the pot. Stir.

5)- Heat the cooking pot over medium heat. Whisk constantly. Heat until thick and just bubbling. Should be about 10 minutes. (Do NOT allow a rapid boil!). Once it starts bubbling, continue to whisk and cook for half a minute. Remove from heat.

6)- Add melted butter and pure vanilla. Mix until you have a smooth cream..

7)- Set aside.

STEP 4: LAYER THE PIE

Steps:

1)- Cut your bananas in even slices. I prefer thickly sliced. It makes the pie BIG! lol

2)- Place a layer of bananas on the cream cheese layer from Step 2. Completely cover the graham crust.

3)- Add half of the Banana Cream (You can add the hot cream. But, I first let the hot cream cool 15 minutes.)

4)- Add a second layer of bananas on top the hot cream.

5)- Add the rest of the hot cream.

6)- Cover in Saran Wrap, put in fridge until completely chilled.

STEP 5: MAKE THE WHIPPED CREAM / NUT, etc. TOPPING:

Ingredients:

— 2+ cups —- heavy whipping cream …. (it all depends how HIGH you want your pie to be. I only use 2 cups. Some people use as many as 4 cups … decadent bastards.)

— slurry (1 Tablespoon Cornstarch, 1 Tablespoon powdered sugar, ½ teaspoon cream of tarter, 4 tablespoons heavy cream…. all mixed together)

[Slurry Note: This is an optional step. Not needed if you’re going to eat the pie the same day, or next. Whipped Cream “falls” after a couple days. A “slurry” stiffens up the cream. (hey hey). There are various other methods to stiffen cream. This one works for me.)

Optional Topping Ingredients

1/8 cup —– caramel or gooey chocolate
1/4 cup —– any kind of nut topping
Fruit bits — thinly sliced strawberries, other berries, etc

Steps:

1)- Whip your cream. Start out on slow speed. Just when it starts to thicken pour in the slurry. Increase speed to high until you have a nice thick cream.

2)- Smack all that cream on top of the pie.

3)- Add whatever topping float your boat. My favorite is very thinly sliced strawberries, then a thin drizzle of chocolate. It’s very pretty, and you can get create with various designs.

4)- Keep cold!

5)- Eat! Try to keep any orgasmic experiences private!

Wow that’s quite a production. I’m thinking it may be worthy of Christmas dinner dessert.

Thanks for taking the time to type it all. I’ll let you know where it lands on the bliss meter.

They must be awfully small pieces for 75 calories. This sounds great, the only change I would make would be to add lemon zest.

At TBP we cannot leave well enough alone.

Not a big fan of pies. Took me about 10 seconds to read the recipe, which appears to suck.

Are we making a fucking pie or building a nuclear power plant? Jesus Christ, Stucky, why don’t you add Steps Six through One Thousand so it’ll be an even YEAR to make the damn thing?
