FLUORIDE MAKES YOU STUPID

Harvard Study Confirms Fluoride Reduces Children’s IQ

By Dr. Mercola

A recently published Harvard University meta-analysis funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has concluded that children who live in areas with highly fluoridated water have “significantly lower” IQ scores than those who live in low fluoride areas.

In a 32-page report that can be downloaded free of charge from Environmental Health Perspectives,1 the researchers said:

“A recent report from the U.S. National Research Council (NRC 2006)2 concluded that adverse effects of high fluoride concentrations in drinking water may be of concern and that additional research is warranted. Fluoride may cause neurotoxicity in laboratory animals, including effects on learning and memory

To summarize the available literature, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of published studies on increased fluoride exposure in drinking water and neurodevelopmental delays. We specifically targeted studies carried out in rural China that have not been widely disseminated, thus complementing the studies that have been included in previous reviews and risk assessment reports…

Findings from our meta-analyses of 27 studies published over 22 years suggest an inverse association between high fluoride exposure and children’s intelligence… The results suggest that fluoride may be a developmental neurotoxicant that affects brain development at exposures much below those that can cause toxicity in adults…

Serum-fluoride concentrations associated with high intakes from drinking-water may exceed 1 mg/L, or 50 Smol/L, thus more than 1000-times the levels of some other neurotoxicants that cause neurodevelopmental damage. Supporting the plausibility of our findings, rats exposed to 1 ppm (50 Smol/L) of water-fluoride for one year showed morphological alterations in the brain and increased levels of aluminum in brain tissue compared with controls…

In conclusion, our results support the possibility of adverse effects of fluoride exposures on children’s neurodevelopment.

Future research should formally evaluate dose-response relations based on individual-level measures of exposure over time, including more precise prenatal exposure assessment and more extensive standardized measures of neurobehavioral performance, in addition to improving assessment and control of potential confounders.

Studies have Repeatedly Linked Fluoride to Reduced IQ and Brain Damage

There are so many scientific studies showing the direct, toxic effects of fluoride on your body, it’s truly remarkable that it’s NOT considered a scientific consensus by now. Despite the evidence against it, fluoride is still added to 70 percent of U.S. public drinking water supplies.

It amazes me that the medical (and dental) communities are so stubbornly resistant to connect the dots when it comes to the skyrocketing increase of cognitive decline in adults, and behavioral issues in children (ADD, ADHD, depression and learning disabilities of all kinds). In fact, there have been over 23 human studies and 100 animal studies linking fluoride to brain damage.3 Fluoride can also increase manganese absorption, compounding problems since manganese in drinking water has also been linked to lower IQ in children.

Reported effects of fluoride on your brain include:

Reduction in nicotinic acetylcholine receptors Damage to your hippocampus Formation of beta-amyloid plaques (the classic brain abnormality in Alzheimer’s disease)
Reduction in lipid content Damage to purkinje cells Exacerbation of lesions induced by iodine deficiency
Impaired antioxidant defense systems Increased uptake of aluminum Accumulation of fluoride in your pineal gland

Six Facts You Need to Know About Water Fluoridation

Harmful Effects have Been Known for Half a Century…

What is perhaps most surprising is that the harmful effects of fluoride have been known by conventional medical organizations for over half a century. For example, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) stated in their September 18, 1943 issue that fluorides are general protoplasmic poisons that change the permeability of the cell membrane by certain enzymes. And, an editorial published in the Journal of the American Dental Association, October 1, 1944, stated:

“Drinking water containing as little as 1.2 ppm fluoride will cause developmental disturbances. We cannot run the risk of producing such serious systemic disturbances. The potentialities for harm outweigh those for good.”

Part of the problem is that it’s an accumulative toxin that, over time, can lead to significant health problems that are not immediately linked to fluoride over-exposure. In a 2005 paper entitled “Fluoride—A Modern Toxic Waste,” Lita Lee, Ph.D. writes:4

“Yiamouyiannis’ book, “Fluoride, The Aging Factor,” documents the cumulative effect of tissue damage by fluoride, commonly seen as aging (collagen damage), skin rashes and acne, gastrointestinal disorders, and many other conditions, including osteoporosis. The U.S. Center for Disease Control and the Safe Water Foundation reported that 30,000 to 50,000 excess deaths occur in the United States each year in areas in which the water contains only one ppm fluoride.

… Fluoride suppresses the immune system: Fluoride inhibits the movement of white blood cells by 70%, thereby decreasing their ability to reach their target. Yiamouyiannis cites 15 references in his pamphlet, Lifesavers Guide to Fluoridation, that document immunosuppressive effects of as little as 10% of the amount of fluoride used in fluoridated water… Immunosuppressive effects run the gamut, from a cold that won’t go away to increased risk of cancer and other infectious diseases.”

Studies have shown that fluoride toxicity can lead to a wide variety of health problems, including:

Increased lead absorption Disrupts synthesis of collagen Hyperactivity and/or lethargy Muscle disorders
Thyroid disease Arthritis Dementia Bone fractures
Lowered thyroid function Bone cancer (osteosarcoma) Inactivates 62 enzymes and inhibits more than 100 Inhibited formation of antibodies
Genetic damage  and cell death Increased tumor and cancer rate Disrupted immune system Damaged sperm and increased infertility

Suppressed Science: Fluoride Link to Cancer

Long-lost research linking fluoride to cancer has resurfaced in a Dutch film clip featuring Dr. Dean Burk, who in 1937 co-founded the US National Cancer Institute (NCI) and headed its cytochemistry department for over 30 years. In the taped interview, he equates water fluoridation to “public murder,” referring to a study that had been done on the 10 largest U.S. cities with fluoridation compared to the 10 largest without it.

The study clearly demonstrated that deaths from cancer abruptly rose in as little as a year or two after fluoridation began. This and other studies linking fluoride to cancer were government-ordered but were quickly buried once fluoride was found to be linked to dramatic increases in cancer.

Join the Fight to Get Fluoride Out of Drinking Water

There’s no doubt about it: Fluoride should not be ingested. At least when it comes to topical application, you have a choice. You can easily buy fluoride-free toothpaste and mouthwash. But you’re stuck with whatever your community puts in the water, and it’s very difficult to filter out of your water once it’s added. Many do not have the resources or the knowledge to do so.

The only real solution is to stop the archaic practice of water fluoridation in the first place. Fortunately, the Fluoride Action Network5 has a game plan to END water fluoridation in both Canada and the United States.

I urge you to join the anti-fluoride movement in Canada and United States by contacting the representative for your area below.

Contact Information for Canadian Communities:

  1. If you live in Ontario, Canada, please join the ongoing effort by contacting Diane Sprules at [email protected].
  2. The point-of-contact for Toronto, Canada is Aliss Terpstra. You may email her at [email protected].

Contact Information for American Communities:

We’re also going to address three US communities: Portland, Wichita, and Phoenix:

  1. Portland, Oregon: Even though residents have voted down fluoridation three separate times, the pro-fluoride lobbying is now working to influence city councilors to ignore the public and pass fluoridation without another vote.  If you live in the Portland area, please contact FAN’s Oregon point person, Kimberly Kaminski.  You can email her at [email protected].  Portland residents will be battling a very well financed campaign by the ADA, Delta Dental and the PEW Charitable Trust.  Please consider making a donation to Oregon Citizens for Safe Drinking Water.
  2. Witchita, Kansas: The pro-fluoride lobby has also targeted Wichita for forced fluoridation.  If you live in Kansas and would like to help protect the safety of the citiy’s drinking water, please contact Fluoride Free Kansas at fluoridefreekansas.org/contact-us
  3. Phoenix, Arizona — The city council is reassessing their fluoridation program.  The issue was raised by Councilman Tom Simplot and local fluoride-free campaigners.  The city currently spends more than $500,000 annually on fluoridation, and currently joins only 9 other Arizona communities in fluoridating their water.  The city council is expected to study the issue and meet on September 11, when it will hold further hearings and decide the fate of the practice.  If you live in the Phoenix area and would like to get involved, please contact FAN’s Phoenix coordinator.

Join the Fight to Get Fluoride Out of Drinking Water

There’s no doubt about it: fluoride should not be ingested. Even scientists from the EPA’s National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory have classified fluoride as a “chemical having substantial evidence of developmental neurotoxicity.” Furthermore, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 41 percent of American adolescents now have dental fluorosis—unattractive discoloration and mottling of the teeth that indicate overexposure to fluoride. Clearly, children are being overexposed, and their health and development put in jeopardy. Why?

At least when it comes to topical application, you have a choice. You can easily buy fluoride-free toothpaste and mouthwash. But you’re stuck with whatever your community puts in the water, and it’s very difficult to filter out of your water once it’s added. Many do not have the resources or the knowledge to do so.

The only real solution is to stop the archaic practice of water fluoridation in the first place. Fortunately, the Fluoride Action Network has a game plan to END water fluoridation, both in the United States and Canada. Clean pure water is a prerequisite to optimal health. Industrial chemicals, drugs and other toxic additives really have no place in our water supplies. So, please, support the anti-fluoride movement by making a donation to the Fluoride Action Network today.

Here’s my main gripe with fluoridated water: there is no good evidence demonstrating that it has any beneficial action at all.

As far as I’m concerned at the very least its a waste of time, money, and effort.

I know nothing (yet) about the science, but in looking for the 32 pages study, I stumbled across this http://www.cracked.com/quick-fixes/fluoride-lowers-your-iq-b.s.-headline-week/ which debunks that headline. It says: “In some tiny print you’ll find they’re talking about China and India, and they are not motherfucking talking about fluoride in toothpaste or stuff being added to drinking water. In those countries, their water supply is contaminated with mega-doses of fluoride that seeps into wells from the soil. They’re getting toxic levels up to 20 times higher than what you get in your drinking water.”

Fluoride is good for toothpaste. Brush and spit. Don’t swallow the sh!t.

The flouride put in drinking water serves no purpose. I mean, it is soluble industrial waste, commonly in the form of fluorocilicic acid, which is a by product of the manufacturing process of high-phosphate fertilizer.

If you want to protect teeth, then use flouride toothpaste. Dumping soluble fluoride waste into drinking water has no appreciable benefit, unless you manufacture fertilizer, in which case you can sell your trash to the government, and they will dump it for you.

BULLSHIT METER IS REGISTERING OFF THE CHARTS!!!!!

There are a thousand and one things that factor into “IQ” ……… and this fucker wants to make it seem like it’s all about fluroide, mostly. SHAME ON HIM!!!

.
I USED to be a Mercola fan. But, he’s one of the world’s greatest pitchmen …. selling whatever makes him a buck, and he has lots of bucks. One of his bullshit pitches dangers of modern cookware. Of course, he had a product he sold to address it …. he made it sound like he was part of the research team.

After some diligent research on my part I discovered a few things;
——— he had NOTHING to do with the product, except resell it
——— the IDENTICAL product … albeit under a different “brand” was available elsewhere at HALF the price
——— it was ultimately CHEAP SHIT made in CHINA, and got HORRIBLE reviews from buyers

Mercola eats shit. (Although there are good articles on his site, if you can sift through the chaff)

from http://dallasmorningviewsblog.dallasnews.com/2014/05/fluoride-in-dallas-water-or-why-you-should-believe-everything-you-read-on-the-internet.html/

Dallas Council HAS NOT voted to remove fluoride from city water supply. Members have discussed a desire to look into issue more closely.

— City of Dallas (@1500Marilla) May 14, 2014

Was it the writer Christopher Buckley who posited the theory that the more “freedom” sounding words a country stuffs into its name, the more likely that place is hell on earth?

So we know the People’s Liberated Democratic Republic of Happyland is in fact an open air gulag where the grinning maniac of a dictator starves those people he doesn’t shoot.

Compare that to the United States of America. Nice and simple. We’re a bunch of states. Pretty much in this thing together. It’s in a place called America.

I got on this weird train of thought last night thinking about, of all things, fluoride in Dallas’ water supply.

The city of Dallas felt compelled yesterday afternoon to put out a statement that, no, it had not stopped fluoridating the water supply.

Wait, I wondered. Where did anybody get the idea that Dallas has stopped fluoridating the water?

See, I write for the Dallas Morning News, or, in this case, dallasnews.com. Nice and simple. We do news. It’s about Dallas.

If the city had removed fluoride from the water supply that would have been news, about Dallas. I would have heard about it.

So I got on twitter and wondered to my friends there why the city would have had to put out such a statement.

One of the people who’s kind enough to follow me, @ascoggin, pointed me to a website called truththeory.com.

And there was the headline: Dallas Ends 5 Decades Of Water Fluoridation: Saves $1 Million Annually In The Process

Truththeory.com (truthteory.com)

What followed under the byline of Christina Sarich was a list of errors stitched together from a series of misunderstandings or outright deceptions.

After months of regular visits by citizens to city council meetings, the Dallas City Council decided last week to stop water fluoridation. Perhaps it was economic incentive alone that allowed the council to decide to end five decades of water fluoridation, or the tireless work of citizens who continuously probed council members about why they would fluoridate city water when it has been proven to be very dangerous to human health.

I think the first clause in that lead might be the only thing that is true. (For the record the city spends about $600,000 a year on fluoride, or about .1 percent of Water Utilities budget.)

The piece then went on to quote council member Sheffie Kadane, who apparently is going to carry the council torch for the anti-fluoride crowd.

Kadane is a kindly person who I like personally and who has never been one of the leading lights of the City Council.

His interest in saving a fraction of Dallas Water Utilities’ massive budget to remove fluoride from the supply will have untold costs on poor citizens with limited access to dental care.

But according to Truth Theory, this is a done deal.

Which brings us back to the beginning. I’m not even sure what to make of this website’s name. Is it truth or theory we’re talking about here? Or is all truth just some sort of theory?

If that’s the perspective, I’d like to know. I’ve come across more people than I care to remember who propose that “truth” is just some sort of perspective and, whoa man, keep your mind open. I avoid these people. I pretend I have some pressing engagement. I act like someone is calling me from across the room. I pull a Nick Carraway and feign a hostile levity. I get away because what follows is, without fail, a spray of nonsense.

Thankfully, the city of Dallas does not have the same perspective on truth as the writers at truththeory.com. The city is still fluoridating its water. Let’s hope, for the sake of its citizens, it continues to do so.

Groundwater in the Texas Panhandle has about four to six ppm fluoride. My mother was born there in 1910 and lived there for her first twelve years.

PhD in Psych. Fulbright professorship. International honors. Very high IQ. Became a top-notch administrator.

Lived to be 95. Had all her teeth but for one wisdom tooth. And no cavities.

Granted, that’s anecdotal. But I’d bet that folks from that area assay as high for smarts as anywhere else. Probably do okay for longevity, as well. There was a time in Hereford, Texas, when a standing joke “motto” was, “Hereford, Texas, where dentists go to starve.”

For all concerned!!! Apples are apples and oranges are oranges. Ya, can’t compare one to the other only point out their respective differences.

All fluorides compounds are not the same. Naturally occurring fluorides are calcium fluorides not stannous fluorides as found in toothpastes, etc.. These are two different compounds with differing properties and most definitely expresses their selfves differently in our bodies. Maybe in this case Mother Nature knows best.

Desertrat—“Groundwater in the Texas Panhandle has about four to six ppm fluoride.” Bet a Mil that it is not stannous fluoride.

This is why definitions are important, so you know what in the hell you’re talking about. Watch “Erin Brockovich” with Julia Roberts. Hexavalent Chromium is not a healthy compound of chromium that is beneficial for you body.

ThePessimisticChemist–Well, I have a hard time dealing with your only concern about fluorides in drinking water, is that it has not been proved to be beneficial. If you are a real chemist and not some guy cooking up Meth over an open flame on a stove in the kitchen, you would fully understand that fluorine is never found in nature in that state (fluorine). Being so reactive, it is found only in compounds with other elements. You would also know that different compounds of an element exhibit different properties and have differing reactions with other elements and compounds.

I would think that your attack would be the nature of the differences between the naturally occurring fluorine compounds and whether the compound of fluorine with tin used in drinking water and toothpaste has any contraindications. as the article suggests.

Will there ever be a double blind or triple blind study of fluoridating water with stannous fluoride? I doubt it. So error on the side of safety. Have your teeth sealed as suggested by Kill Bill.

Medvyed say it right. From Wikipedia—“Hexafluorosilicic acid has a distinctive sour taste and pungent smell. It is mainly produced as a precursor to aluminum trifluoride and synthetic cryolite. It is commonly used as a source of fluoride for water fluoridation.[1][2] Concentrated hexafluorosilicic acid is corrosive and can attack the skin.”

Sounds like something I want to put in my body. What about your internal skin?

Yes, I know that toothpaste contain sodium fluoride and that drinking water contains silicon fluoride compounds, too. What I’m trying to relay is that the term Fluoride has a lot of meanings. Tell a chemist that you love fluoride and he will ask which one. Don’t let the industry confuses you by labeling all these compounds ‘Fluoride’. Make them define what they are talking about. Watch–“Erin Brockovich” it is a great movie.
