We watched the documentary on the Eagles a couple of nights ago and I thought it was outstanding. There’s a great part where JD Souther and Don Henley are living in a small apartment above Jackson Browne and how every morning they wake up to the sound of a teapot boiling followed by several hours of stanza by stanza songwriting, over and over again. During this entire passage you hear Browne playing a series of chord progressions, refining a tune, adding notes, changing chords.
Henley says that’s when he finally understood how music is written-
“Elbow grease.” he says with this look on his face. “It all comes down to hard work, nothing else.”
And then all of a sudden you realize that you are hearing the opening lines of Doctor My Eyes.
I really appreciated that they took the time to explain that to perfect one’s craft requires more than just inspiration and talent, and that to really get good at anything you have to show up every single day and work at it.

For all Eagles fans, I recommend renting/buying the Eagles “FAREWELL 1 TOUR Live from Melbourne”, if you have not already seen it. An excellent live concert recorded at Rod Laver Arena with four of the original Eagles on stage. Great live music. 30 songs I think.
One of my favorites from the 2-CD concert sung by Joe Walsh:
Good song, indialantic. I hereby nominate you to pinch-hit as a tune picker for the tin-eared Admin. It’s impossible to do a worse job, so it’s an easy assignment. Heh.

El Coyote,
Have you ever heard this song, sin ella (without her)? I first heard it watching the movie “Fearless” (1993) starring Jeff Bridges. A story about a passenger who survived a bad plane crash near Bakersfield a long time ago. He ended up saving a bunch of people by leading them out and away from the burning aircraft.
This is a great song by The Gipsy Kings, buddy. I thought you might like it. I did! Passionate song with buckets of energy. My Spanish sucks, so I did a search and found a link that translated the lyrics to English.

I’ve seen the Eagles documentary that HSF posted about. I can appreciate the songwriting, singing, and musicianship talents of the band members, and I even can appreciate some of their songs, but to me I always wonder how they stand to play them as they seem so boring. I think it would be hard to play them for a single tour back in the day, much less year after year. Eagles made some ok background music, but nothing that ever inspired me. My biggest take away from the documentary was that the arrogance and egos involved in the band, I am surprised they managed to stay together to make a single album. Ugly POS people who happen to be able to write catchy (if somewhat boring) songs.

Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me– to keep me from exalting myself! 8Concerning this I implored the Lord three times that it might leave me. 9And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.…
