Probably because they are not aware that alternatives are available. Even if they are aware it will take time and critical thinking skills to vet the alternatives. After taking the time to find new sources of truth they still face ridicule of friends, family and co-workers for believing something outside of the mainstream.
Basically, people worry too much about what other people think instead of thinking for themselves.
