Question of the Day, Sep 15

In Wyoming they have a state department whose sole purpose is to investigate cattle theft rather than the local sheriffs handling it. What is the first government agency you would eliminate?

I would start with the Dept of Education, simply because it has been most talked about and it would be great to actually see it done instead of just talked about. It serves absolutely no purpose so the effort would be minimal, taking only weeks to complete. But really it is the IRS that needs to go first. I just cant make it a realistic first target since it would take a bit longer to dismantle. You’d have to set up the flat tax, implement the rebate system, and decide which pieces of revenue enforcement to keep in place since even a flat tax system has to be enforced. But yeah, at least 90% of the IRS could be discarded within a year.

IRS -with a Flat Tax or Fair Tax system whichever one is just a 10% tax on everyone above a specified gross income level (poverty level?). No deductions for anyone or business. Only need 25 people to manage this system.

Then, Dept. of Ed – what is worse than the gov’t dictating, by decree or currently by financial carrots, to our children what should be taught in schools. Example – today with Common Crap, er Core, the dumbed-down standards will ensure the best and brightest of the proles will become average and the stupid will become average. This will ensure a compliant and obedient citizenry.
Meanwhile, the children of the governing elite will go to the best private schools to ensure their continuing control of the country.

First would be the IRS. Revise the tax code to a flat tax, with the percentages increasing with income – no deductions – no nothing. Or national sales tax.

Second the Department of Education. Replace with nothing.

Third EPA – cut staff by 80%, and have them take care of real pollution issues.

Dutchman,

So what agency are you going to create to replace the IRS and collect that tax? To verify that reported income is actual income and not unreported, under reported or falsified (the IRS now does that, it’s called an audit).

BTW, when you propose a progressive tax based on increasing income (a plank of the Communist Manifesto, FWIW) you indicate you don’t actually understand a “flat” tax” which is the same tax across the board regardless of income or other status.

@Anonymous: “So what agency are you going to create to replace the IRS and collect that tax?”

The IRS exists mainly because there are 74,000 pages in the current tax code. If we replace them with just a couple of pages (or one page) it would greatly reduce the size of the IRS. The IRS would be reduced to compliance checking, and an audit would be greatly simplified, since the tax code is now only a couple of pages.

A national sales tax would eliminate individuals from filing anything.

@Anonymous: “when you propose a progressive tax based on increasing income (a plank of the Communist Manifesto, FWIW) you indicate you don’t actually understand a “flat” tax” which is the same tax across the board regardless of income or other status”

Well fuck you, you arrogant bitch!

You have to acknowledge that people with a lesser income, have to use a greater percentage of their income for basic living expenses.

Go lecture some 3rd grade class!

IRS, NSA, CIA, Dept. of Homeland Security, and on down the line until it resembles what the government looked like at the beginning.

Why do some of you what a personal income tax? The country got along fine without one for the first 150 years or so.

The correct answer would be to rid the Federal Government of all agencies not called for in the original Constitution and get rid of the “Federal Reserve” Bank and it’s tax collector, the IRS. And all that would be a good start.

Impose tariffs on all the goods and services to be imported. That’s how the U.S. was originally funded and it should apply now. We don’t need an IRS. We sure as hell don’t need an NSA, DIA, CIA, or DHS.
Dramatic reduction in gov/mil size and let the states work out the local stuff. Hell, why do we need 1000 military bases worldwide? Why are taxpayers paying $200 a gallon for gasoline and building structures that were never used in an Afghan war which made no sense in the 1st place?

Well Mike, I could pretty much do away with all of the Ferel .Gov offices and let the states handle their own business. CONgress and POTUS and SCOTUS have proved that we don’t need them for shit because they serve no purpose but to fubar anything they touch. The ONLY thing we need from .Gov is to secure the borders and protect the citizens within and they CAN’T EVEN DO THAT RIGHT. Throw all of those bums out on the street where they belong.

The Department of Education- we did fine without it before 1979.
Housing and Urban Development
Health, Education, and Welfare
Bureau of Reclamation
Bureau of Land Management
Dept of Energy
Federal Communication Commission
Dept of Transportation
Federal Housing Finance Authority
Federal Housing Agency
Dept of Agriculture

Is the above enough to piss off nearly everyone in the country?

I mean it. We can sit here and yap till the sun sets in the east about what we’d do if we had the power we think a president has, but just effing TRY to scale back the operations of any one of the above by as much as 10%, and I promise that howls of outrage will be heard across the land. There’s something on that short list for everyone. Everyone wants to see anything that benefits someone in a different socio-economic or racial group cut to the bone or eliminated, but when it comes to the stuff that benefits his or her own region or group, you can count on a powerful lobby being formed to protect it. Just try eliminating one welfare program, one educational program, one agricultural susidy, one uneconomical water project, then run and hide because you will have a big target on your backside. You sure as hell won’t get re-elected and you will be lucky to escape with your life.

So it’s really a useless conversation.

Sensetti, only lived there 4 years. Government is as screwed up as anywhere with Dims masquerading as republicans.
