I read an article, fairly recently, about the Soviet Union’s centrally planned economic system which claimed – quite believably – that their system would have collapsed decades earlier if not for a massive underground/black market system, which was what had to be used by their populace to actually get their needs filled.

In recent years I have noticed a revival of flea markets in my area. There are more occasional sellers looking for supplemental income. We have everything from locally grown produce to guns and ammo, along with the usual mix of trash and the rare treasure. In the event of a major disruption that’s where people will go for stuff they need.
