Amount spent per capita doesn’t mean anything without number and type of prescriptions per capita being compared as well.

We routinely prescribe stuff to a very wide range of patients in all age groups that are almost never prescribed in some other countries to anyone other than someone for whom there is no other option and frequently never prescribed for those over a certain age.

Whoo-eeee… Now go check India, Indonesia and other 2nd or 3rd world countries.. In India, you might pay $1 a pill where here we pay $20.. Same pill, same manufacturer. We are, yet again, supplying the rest of the world with Rx at our expense..

Ok, I’ll answer the question and get on my soapbox again. Because we grossly overprescribe those goddamned, dangerous, and expensive psychotropic drugs, that’s why.

Whoops, sorry Admin. Your comment at 4:36 pm partially covered my comment on psychotropic drugs at 4:45 pm. I just said it in a more blunt and profane fashion.

While we prescribe way too many drugs here in the US, we also develop most of the new drugs world wide.

It ain’t getting any cheaper either.

Just something to read and think about…

I get my drugs at NorthWestPharmacy.com. They are in Canada. Most drugs are at least 50% cheaper. It takes about a month to get them, since they are all made in India, Turkey, Israel.

This is for drugs you take every day like Crestor or high blood pressure meds. Ask your doctor for a prescription for 300 – not 10 x 30.

If you want to know the real reason look at the relationship between antitrust law and the pharmaceutical industry.
