Russia also launched a cruise missile attack from the Caspian Sea on ISIS in Syria in October. Some of the missiles reportedly crashed in Iran, one of which killed some cows outside a village. Hope this map posts. It shows the route the missiles flew.

This is interesting, sort of, but not really significant – they are simply demonstrating use of the same type of weapon we started using (all too often) in 1991. Not all that surprising.
This event is also a useful method of gaining performance information on assets in a non- wargame scenario. You can bet each and every missile was tracked with land and space-based assets, and their performance will be carefully analysed in order to make improvements where deemed necessary.
There is a lot more to this “show of capability” than meets the eye of the casual observer.
