The Pope is a charlatan. The Catholic church is a cult.

Petrus Romanus, the Pope who ushers in the Anti Christ the way John the Baptist ushered in Jesus the Christ.

This Pope certainly seems to be acting in accord with that prediction.

+100

Organized religion is simply mankind’s first attempt at controlling/fleecing the masses. God may in fact be real but you won’t get to Him via organized religion. I’m 110% certain of that.

I don’t really pay attention to the thumbsy game but to the turd burglar who thumbed me down:

Which organized religion is going to get you there? The one of pedophile priests? Perhaps Rev. Wrights YT hating Church of Obama? Maybe Jim Jones? David Koresh’s Branch Dividians? The whack-a-doos of Heavens Gate? Fuck, if you’re gonna pick one you may as well go with Al Bundy’s Church of the Brown Bottle. At least then you’ll get a cold beer and some cute alter vixens to keep you awake at the service.

“Back when men were men and women were ribs.” Rev. Al Bundy

If you believe in God then skip the middlemen and fall to your knees wherever you are right now and pray to Him and then, show your devotion in the way you live your life everyday.

If your feelings about the Catholic church (and bible-thumpers in general) are like mine, do yourself a favor and go see the movie “Spotlight” this weekend. You’ll like it. A lot!

IS,
I did not thumb you down. I still go to my cute little Catholic church, it suits me fine. The Catholic church as all religions is very flawed because it is run by men who by their nature are flawed beings. I accept that as I accept my faith. Anyone who feels insulted because someone does not hold the same religious views as you do is not secure in his or her own faith in my opinion. The Catholic church has done many bad things and it has done many good things. I’m not sure that Christ would want the his church in its present state, but is where we are. We must challenge ourselves to be true to our faith if that is what we truly believe. End of sermon, Stucky is much better at it than I.

BostonBob, I don’t fault true believers. Matter of fact, I’m happy for them and glad they exist because the true believers live their belief and generally make the world a better place. Unfortunately too many asshat religious “leaders” out there are leading easily manipulated people down the primrose path. If I were a believer I’d live my beliefs daily. I’m not a believer and I still lead a better life than most self professed Christians I know. I was born and Christened a Catholic but there is no fucking way I could ever be a part of a Church where leadership from the grand poobah on down aided, abetted and covered up the decades long ass fucking of innocent little boys. Makes my fucking skin crawl just thinking about it. The ass fucking of little boys barely begins to cover the atrocities committed under the Catholic banner throughout their history.

I occasionally read Ann Barnhardts take on the state of the Catholic Church and it’s far worse than I could ever imagine.

My youngest brother is a devout Christian and cannot find a single church in the Boise area that comes close to teaching or even preaching the word of the Bible unless the sermons lend themselves to furthering the agendas (read: bank accounts) of church leadership. The final church he attended eventually had the congregation praying (and paying) for the pastors wife to get the new Cadillac she’d always wanted and so richly deserved. When my brother fell on hard times, eventually losing his house, church leadership noticed that he was no longer tithing and had a squad of goons (known as The Mens Group) question him about it and suggest that tithing is important even in tough times. That was the last they saw of him.

Now he spends his Sundays with similarly disenfranchised friends exploring God’s Creation and living his beliefs every other day of the week. He’s happier now than he’s been in years.

Westcoaster,
I read the Globe spotlight stories as they came out back in the early 1990’s. Many in the church were devastated. Our priest was one of the early ones who signed the petition demanding Bernie Law to step down, the church tried to have those priests ousted. Many, many in the church knew what was going on and many were involved in the cover up. Many had high hopes that Cardinal Law had a chance to be the first American Pope if you can imagine. Power an money drives many in the church as they do so many human endeavors.

From the early 1900’s through the 1960’s the church had dependable often vibrant growth in the Boston and much of New England and was a boon to many of the early immigrants. During the 1950’s and 1960’s as the church began to accept more and more government largess for its poverty and hospital programs and it became reliably more liberal. You are looking at the result of this perversion of faith. Should I give up my faith because of these evil men? I feel that I should not. They may have run the church, but they do not own my faith.

Bob.

IS,
All very good points. I have found individual churches are often a reflection of the priest or pastor who runs it. We have been fortunate the the last two priests walked the walk and were very good men. The current priest is still to new to tell, but the church has brought on its own hard times having to consolidate parishes with the lack of priests. Also the members of the parish are a good reflection of how the church is run. I have found most in our church to be extremely kind and generous. Just my experience.
Bob.

BostonBob, I so want to abbreviate that as bb but that would be an insult! Anywho, I’m not suggesting by any means that people give up their faith or base their faith on the integrity of the so called church leaders. I personally could not count myself as one of their congregants or warship in one of their tainted houses of ill repute but that’s just me. Millions of people manage to worship from jail cells, desolate places, aboard long voyage ships and other places without churches. That’s what I’d have to do to avoid being associated with their dens of inequity.

The other thing that chaps my ass about the Catholic church is the opulent displays of wealth in so many of their churches when I know that it was based in part on the murderous, forced conversion of millions of native (south) Americans and the theft of their gold, silver and other resources. I’m not really sure how that shit is different from the Islam.

I’m glad you have a cute little Catholic church. Ann Barnhardt says there are still a few out there that still offer a true and proper mass. I think she can put people in touch with a group that keeps track of proper Catholic parishes but it seems they are becoming scarce. I know Ann can come off as batshit crazy but she seems to know her shit when it comes to Catholicism. She’s practically militant Catholic and I’d bet she’s better versed in the Catholic faith than most priests or even the pope. I’d love to see her debate the pope on any subject.
