OK, picking just one is damned near impossible.
But, I’ll pick this one. I was about 16 years old and had an after-school part time job sweeping a factory floor. So, this song is playing on somebody’s radio, and I’m singing along. This is what I heard, and sang — “She’s got it .. Your baby, she’s got it. Well, I’m your PENIS, I’m your fire …” It made sense to me. Really.
The factory guys gave me a LOT of SHIT over that. One day I went to the broom closet to fetch a broom …. and it had a dildo tied to the handle. I eventually had to quit.

Don’t agree the Mighty Mighty Bosstones are one-hit wonders….
Dunno as The Playmates had any other hits, but in 1958 the guys who qualified as motorheads in my miniscule little town played this damned thing over and over (and over).
Thomas Wayne: Tragedy. Stonewall Jackson: Waterloo. Norman Greenbaum: Spirit in the Sky. Spirit: I Got a Line. I’d better STFU, I’m really dating myself.
The Bangles weren’t one-hit wonders. They also had #1s with Manic Monday, Hazy Shade of Winter and Eternal Flame.I think they still tour.
By the way, love the bikini in Shakin’ All Over.
Here’s one for you: Gilbert O’Sullivan – Alone Again (Naturally).

Just to spice things up, here’s a great song, featuring the first backwards lyrics in a song (at the end).

If it Ain’t One Thing, it’s Another (my note: Ain’t that the damned truth?)

Note to HSF: Imho, “Wildfire” was one of the loveliest songs ever recorded; another similarly-titled “Wildflower” fits too (and yes, another stunning one-hit wonder):

Check out the brain on Vic. Maybe it was wishful thinking.

Rob… Come On Eilene! one of my favorite 80s tunes!
This was NOT a one hit wonder, but come on Eilene always reminds me of this… they go together in my mind.

Maggie Wow.
I have never heard that version before. Pretty cool. I agree they do go together. Me and a bunch of friends played these songs along with bunch of others in basement of my friend Dennis’s house. His father had an amazing stereo. The good old days. I laugh now looking back. Good times! I did a bit a writing this weekend. In the grand scheme not a great deal but I am finding it to be good for the soul. I am surprising myself a little. I sit down type a bit and am surprised where it ends up. I think I may have, like this version of song “down under”, found a slightly different groove so to speak. Anyways life’s good now too!

EL Coyote,
I didn’t like the Bangles. I was just pointing out a fact. Don’t be an ass.

‘Check out the brain on Vic’ is a sort of tip of the hat for catching that slip. I meant that whoever called them a one hit wonder may have been wishing. It’s a little early to call me an ass, wait until I really fuck with you. Unless that was a preemptive move.
Has to be the best One Hit Wonder ever… look at this crowd!
Now, you have gone and got me interested in One Hit Wonder songs I’ve loved over my life.
bought the album just for this song..
