The extent to which the teaching of US history in public schools has been skewed and distorted to ensure children receive a sanitized and vetted narrative, thereby pleasing certain interests and obeying the dictates of certain political agendas, is frightening.
That Americans of all races and various socioeconomic and educational levels are unaware that the Democratic Party’s earlier incarnations heavily favored slavery, aggressively opposed legislation (such as anti-lynching laws) that would bring equality, provided weapons to (if not simply were members of) the Ku Klux Klan, and fought against the giving of full citizenship and of the right to vote to blacks is a demonstration of how easily millions can be deceived if only the right mechanisms are utilized.
I have recently exposed some of these truths on Facebook and a liberal friend, who is a Democrat and a fan of Barack Obama, went on only to say that he gets that “historicity is important.” Ironic, given he is an adamant social justice warrior who claims to defend African-Americans (whom he apparently lumps into a big bloc of marginalized people, despite the existence wealthy and middle-class blacks and despite many blacks today being conservative and Republican). None of this evil history of his party mattered.
