Henry County Police were responding to a 911 call, Tuesday night, which reported gunshots, at a residence in Stockbridge. The caller also said they heard a woman crying for help but could not give an exact address.
Police arrived at the home of William Powell, 63, according to KTLA. He was armed with a handgun and was shot, by one of three police officers dispatched, after refusing to drop it.
Powell’s wife told WSB-TV2 Atlanta her husband thought they were intruders trying to get into the house.
The case is now being examined by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) who said that the 911 call indicates that the officers were at the wrong location, according to spokesman Scott Dutton as reported by AJC.com.
The GBI says Powell never fired his weapon. The officer who shot Powell is on paid administrative leave.
Powell was taken to the Atlanta Medical Center after the shooting and died there Thursday, according to his brother-in-law, Clifton Worn.
To Protect and Kill
Heroes.
When Police see someone with a gun even someone that is not a threat to anyone, they often will shoot first and make up rationalization later.
Here is a case where a police Lieutenant shoots one of his own men who was undercover at the time (didn’t recognize him) and because he notices the person is carrying a gun he shoots him nine times.

When the Officers of the law respond to a shooting, right address or wrong, they do not advertise their presence until that bash in the door can charge inside.
A person on the inside would, therefore be totally startled and the invasion being unexpected, has an excellent chance of provoking a response by the surprised individual within the house. If this response is to draw a weapon, in fear of a house invasion by someone other than the police, it is a perfectly normal reaction of a man defending his castle..
Sadly, in this case, it was the police – which I feel should announce who they are before any attempt to force entry but in this particular case it is a case of too many bad inputs to the police (women screaming, gunshots, et al, the officers were on a hair-trigger, guns drawn and prepared for the worse.
Bad luck to the gentleman who had the gun as he was an immediate target because the police don’t like to be shot any more than would you or I..
Mark this one down to sime rotten luck by the gentleman of the house and a mistake by the police to raid the wrong home.
Sorry about that.. Shit happens.
MA
That’s “simple” rotten luck…
MA
MA: I call bullshit on your sorry excuse for “logic”. The caller was not sure of the address. WTF are cops doing going to an address, guns drawn, if they can’t verify said address is correct. A man is dead because of an “administrative error”. Like I said, BULLSHIT!
So no one’s perfect, like you never made a simple mistake?
The MURDERER (a C minus high school loser) will inevitably get a promotion and a raise.
They protected and served the shit out of him! His family will probably get a bill in the mail for their service.
If a civilian did this what would happen to them?
Whatever that is is what should happen to the officers here otherwise you are a hypocrite.
Was Monkey Butt just kidding?
Why would anyone try to stop a home robbery with a hand gun.Always use a Remington 18 inch pump shotgun.Damn Muck , come on over to my corner . SHIT HAPPENS.
If that was your family member, what would you do?
Generally , if you are addressing me ? I would probably say good riddance since most of my family are liberal democrats.
