Well, I was already a big fan of The Killers, so I might be biased, but that is the first time I have heard them do CCR, and that rendition was amazing.

Not a bad cover.
Generally I don’t like covers, I guess because I am an (old fart) a bit older.

In The Killers version, the tempo is off, the rhythm guitar sounds really tinny. The tempo actually shifts and jumps around throughout the song, and not in a good way. The lead guitar solo is barely audible. Worst of all, the singer completely botches the title phrase. It is supposed to go “Theeerre’s a bad moon on the rise” not “There’s – a – bad – moon on the rise”

See, Killers are a cover band. CCR was iconic. CCR cooked, in the studio or onstage. The Killers stumble and jerk. They could never cover this:

CCR was original 45 (or more) years ago. Something new & different. How much talent does it take to copy a song… arrangement & all? Santana did a Peter Green song & made it his own. Johnny Winter & Hendrix covers sound like their own. Hell, even Thorogood puts his own twist on the 1, 4, 5 standards. A cover band has some skill, the original band had skill, talent, & balls to do something out of the ordinary. My $3.02 adjusted for inflation.

It’s art; we don’t ask who painted the best Night Watchman, built the best Taj Mahal or is better than The King: excellent copy but a tie goes to the runner.
