Well, the attempted coup in Turkey sure took the spotlight off the Nice terror attack!
I certainly had a better time with my father in the chemo ward than reading doom porn. Now I’m planning a two day route home that will attempt to avoid any road or highway I’ve ever driven on before. Should be magnificent!
Thanks star. dad is doing much better than expected. This may have been his last round of chemo depending on test results in a couple of weeks. Once the chemo stops I guess it just becomes a waiting game. Others I’ve met and heard about with small cell lung cancer are still going up to 13 years after treatment. I don’t really expect that but who knows. Whether I lose him this year or 20 years from now will still mean I’m losing my only hero. Thankfully he is happy and healthy in every other way and content with his life. I think that makes it easier for him and us. He is the epitome of grace.
I’m hitting the road in about 20 minutes. North /south routes thru Idaho are pretty limited so I’ll have to re-trace some previously driven routes but I can take the old highways first built in the 30’s climbing two massive multi thousand foot grades which I’ve always wanted to do. The first is described like this:
“Keep in mind, this road with a g-zillion switchbacks (the arcs/switchbacks, if combined, would form 37 full 360° circles, an average of 950° per mile) was the only Idaho road north or south for nearly 40 years.”
This grade climbs 2700 feet overlooking the Nez Perce Battlefield at Whitebird Pass where the First U. S. Calvary got their asses handed to them despite having superior numbers.
The second grade is only 2000 feet but climbs Grape Vine Hill at Lewiston, ID made with a similar number of switchback turns in a shorter distance. It was made famous by Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen in their song Hot Rod Lincoln. The road is now known as The Spiral Highway for a similar number of combined 360° turns.

Indentured please accept my best wishes in this difficult time. This world can be by times hard to understand.
It has been some time since I felt like writing. Mostly because I needed a break from the Doom that pervades the news cycle. What happened in Nice this week though has deeply disturbed and re-awoken my need to write. I wonder sometimes how the world continues to spin with so much anger and hate weighing it down.
Yet spin it does.
Last night I cast my net to a small Hall hoping for a reprieve. Listened to and sang along with Lenny Gallant and others some beautiful songs.
I wish this world could spend less time dividing and categorizing everyone. Religions and politicians everywhere speak of peace and yet when I look around all I see is division, hatred and destruction.
I grew up Catholic in a Protestant town back when it mattered. I slowly came to realization that narrowly defining myself as being from that tribe closed doors rather than opening them. Walking away has made it hard to understand the Muslim world. My only wish now is that folks everywhere made faith less central to who they are. Defined themselves more by their own inner humanity. Less by what has been imposed by others.

The earth still spins, the world still hates. I had a dream last night. Decided to wake up early for sunrise. For just a moment I had my reprieve. I was hoping for a beautiful day. I wasn’t dissapointed.
Yeah that should work. Just one more hashtag should do it. I finally have gotten around to reading book Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. I am only part way thru but things seem much clearer now. You have mentioned this book in your writings from time to time. I think it should be required reading for all high schools. I really think the 9urpose now of the ignorant hordes sent by Soros is to terrorize the free thinkers in society into accepting the annointed saviour whoever that will be that is coming soon to save us. All the Alphas out there being a grave threat to the coming New World Order. I do wonder tonight whether events in Turkey are subverting or upholding the plan. I do wonder if Erdogan now realizes his enablers in West are actually his enemies. If that is found to be true then we could be in midst of a very important phase of this turning. If Turkey flips and joins Eastasia then as Orwell wrote in 1984 the slogans of the west will need to be rewritten.

Just came back from the Festival of Small Halls on Prince Edwards Island where I spent a lot of time playing and listening to music. I’ve worked as a songwriter much of my adult life, but played Celtic based traditional music as well and this year will be recording some. Actually did my first paying gig playing with John Allen Cameron years ago in NS. I was glad to get back to Canada and the Maritimes for a while. The local musical culture is stronger than ever. The horror in Nice, what does that have to do with my musical journey to PEI? Multi-culturalism tends to mean anti-culturalism, the deadening corporatism that obliterates regional identities and reduces art to trivial fashion statements. The bankers and militarists at the forefront of this gray tide, like Hillary Clinton, seem to inhabit a landscape of abstractions where body counts are just numbers like wealth itself. Cultural differences mean nothing to these cultureless fools, and ideas are relative…everyone is entitled to his or her belief no matter how absurd. Hence by destroying lives and cultures in places like Iraq and Syria, they simultaneously create a breeding ground for crude medieval theology and increase our own vulnerability. It’s a wonder we haven’t had a major attack since 9/11, one actually committed by Islamic terrorists. American foreign policy has been like a giant Petrie dish in which are swirled together all the organisms necessary to breed terrorists. So yes, I absolutely agree that the values of the West, such as we have left, must be protected, but not just from the jihadists. The political class in Washington and their vassals in Europe are as great a threat as any we’ve ever faced. Now these fools are strutting around threatening Russia and China, two cultures with long cultural histories where I suspect corporate profits have less to do with evaluating weapons systems. In my imagination, I see Hillary in a classic witch’s black dress. The Petrie Dish has become a giant cauldron. “Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble.”

I have to agree with you for most part in what say. I do think though that the clusterfuck cannot be just blamed on USA. Governments across West and Middle East especially Saudi Arabia, have played with fire and are now getting burned. It doesn’t help that people living in those countries are muslim. I wish a reformation could occur casting aside the most dangerous and reactionary but a 1000 years from now folks will still be hoping. Islam is like a rusted out car with 3 flat tires stranded on side of road.. and the motor blown. Everyone huddled in front trying to decide what to fix first.
And then this morning I turn on CNN and story being told is authorities can’t know for sure if this man was radicalized or not. As if that even matters. Over 80 dead and the supposedly smart people on TV are debating whether he got a phone call from a cave in Afghanistan. I wanted to pull an Elvis on my flatscreen.
I guess the wags on TV are hoping that if they say nice things about Islam the violence will end. They are delusional. The violence is going to continue. It is still early innings in this deadly game.

Megyn Kelly on Fox’s ‘Kelly Files’, I believe, had on that black sheriff from Wisconsin after this Nice tragedy. He said, “You got to define them and kill’em.” That’s it folks! That’s someone who understands reality.
Of course, Obama will come out with his ‘Hug a Muslim Day’. That should restore order to the Universe, after all, they are so terribly mis-understood.
Eventually, reality emerges, but how many Nices does there have to be to wake us up or maybe we are awake and are just being gamed for a more sinister purpose .

I told my kids to remember their Dad telling them that one day having Muslims in our country will come back to bite us in the ass. They just don’t assimilate. Leave them all in their countries of peace.
