President Trump and the Other Countries

Guest Post by Scott Adams

Today’s news will be all about President Trump’s tense phone calls with the leaders of Australia and Mexico. The popular spin is that the president was rude and aggressive with both of them. Very unpresidential, say the critics. Maybe he is crazy! And orange! Chaos! Chaos! Chaos!

Another spin on the same observations is that both Australia and Mexico required their leaders to “stand up” to President Trump in a more aggressive way than you would expect with a normal president. I didn’t hear the details of the calls, but I have to think they were lecturing him, or talking down to him, or generally being dicks because that’s what their countries required of them in this situation. Trump just showed them what that strategy buys them.

If you see one phone call as an event that stands alone, you’re missing the story arc. Everything is an ongoing negotiation with Trump. Australia and Mexico just had to sleep on the idea that their relationship with the United States is worse today than yesterday. And it sends a signal to other leaders that lecturing President Trump with an eye toward grandstanding or embarrassing him isn’t the strongest strategy. He probably needed to make that point one way or another. That’s done. Now let’s see if the next foreign leader decides to lecture him or not. I’m thinking no.

There will be plenty of breathless commentary today about the end of civil diplomacy. What we don’t know is how it all turns out. Don’t judge a book by the first sentence. The fun is just starting.

Just to be clear, I’m sure the new administration is making plenty of rookie errors. It’s not all brilliant persuasion. But don’t assume you can tell them apart with limited information.

“Making many rookie errors.” Indeed. It’s more like a new group of bullies took over the sand pile and are doing their best to upend all the other users of that sandpile all at once! Not necessarily bad since the US has been defending the world since WWII and the rest of the world sits on their hands (and money), leaving their military, air forces and navies w-a-y under equipped and staffed because they all know big Unkle Samistein will dash to their rescue if they are threatened.

It’s time the rest of the free world (the unfree world takes care of themselves) take up a higher level of self-reliance in the defense of their own interests and territory.

Second thought.. IF they do gear up their own defense, that will automatically mean a lower standard of living for their people as any available money will be deflected from the welfare states coffers into the military – Just exactly as in this country..

Our military support of them has, essentially, been financing their socialism.

That’s the only way socialism can work, someone else has to finance all or part of it.

Tell that to the Muzzies and the commies. MuckAbout demonstrates that one can bray but still depend upon his betters to tie his shoelaces in the morning.

And who reported this conversation in transgression of Presidential decorum? AP? Seriously? Can we all say it together? “Fake News”

A highly placed, unidentified source, from Alice in Wonderland is thought to be AP’s source according to an unidentified AP source who was using cocaine.

And nothing about the meat of the disagreement. Because fake news knows Trump has a right to be pissed.

Sometimes I wonder if the Trump administration doesn’t leak little tidbits like this to get the hounds all riled up, only to then be able to publicly pull the rug out from under them later.

Of course Trump leaked it. Just how mant people would have been privy to that call? Has there been anyone fired over it? Hell no – it was intentionally leaked.

Everyone seems to forget that Trump is first and foremost a negotiator. Since we haven’t had a president in my lifetime that was good negotiator, seeing one at work can be disquieting for many people.

To successfully negotiate with someone who comes at you like an asshole (Mexico & Australia), you act like a bigger asshole. To negotiate with someone who is nice (Britain) you act nice in return. It works and I’m so, so happy Trump is doing it. Let’s not forget he is negotiating for the USA and that is all of us.

The Oz – US refugee deal was big news here in Oz. The deal was inked AFTER Trump won the election.

The minute I heard that news, I said uh-oh. The idiot Oz prime minister done jumped in the elephant patty with both feet. What a moronic thing for him (Turnbull) to have done. He spit in Trump’s beer within day’s of the election.

And now, surprise, surprise, surprise – Trump is pissed off.

I guess Turnbull thought Trump was a pansy ass who was joking about the refugees.

Never underestimate the stupidity of a politician.

Angus – the only system more fucked up than the one in the US is the Parliamentary system. The fucking elected reps choose/depose the prime ministers, at their fucking whim. It is a damn revolving door at times. It makes for an endless – and I mean endless – series of backstabbings as the reps knife each other trying to get themselves, or their cronies, into power.

Turnbull did this incredibly stupid deal in order to placate one faction or another and try to deflect some heat.

What he accomplished was to piss off Trump big league. Who woulda thunk it? Me, for one. And any sane observer of what the fuck was happening around the world.

Fucking imbeciles.

Please expound upon this topic of how screwy the parliamentary system is.
It seems like every time that I read something about where an organization from the US is going to a newly freed country to teach about democracy & freedom that they are teaching them about the para system instead of our system.
I’ve always thought that was garbage-give me some ammo.

So the Bruces want us to take the “refugees” they don’t want in their own country?
