How should President Trump handle the General Flynn debacle so it won’t curtail his cleaning up the giant mess he was handed?

He wasn’t “handed this mess.” Team Trump did not vett this guy thoroughly. Either that, or the “deep state” imposed its will. No matter how you look at it, it’s a mess, and has deep consequences for his foreign policy. A major body blow for the administration.

I think the better thing to do is simply have a press conference, say “I fired him because he was not honest with me”, and be done with it.
People lie all the time to get a job, when they are found out, the boss fires them. End of story. This will not be the first time that some Government appointee is found to be lying or “stretching the truth” for their own gain. The longer this drags out without Trump putting his foot down, the more fuel the 24 7 fake news cycle has to fill in the blanks with talking head morons. On surface examination I would prefer he backed Flynn. That said who knows what is happening behind the scenes.

Trump should come out with a statement, then appoint Flynn as a personal adviser or something else (ambassador.) The Leftist-Prog bureaucracy will continue to undermine and sabotage Trump until they are found and extracted. Trouble is, it is probably most of them.
I read somewhere that Flynn was moved to the Bureau of Intelligence which is the principal point of contact for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and also coordinates other agency approval for Department of State’s use of intelligence. I didn’t catch the exact position but if true he will still be doing high level intelligence.
I hope that’s true.
If nothing else, this will continue on as a bread and circus distraction for the hoi polloi.
