A Fake News Story

Guest Post by Hardscrabble Farmer

Most people read the news and just accept it at face value. I read the news and look for the falsehoods.

Time published this story the other day about an arrest of a “North Carolina Man” for a half billion dollar opium grow op.

Accidental Confession Leads Cops to $500 Million Poppy Field

“I guess you’re here for the opium”

http://time.com/4795362/north-carolina-opium-poppies/?xid=time_socialflow_twitter

One half a billion dollars.

The story goes on to describe the extent of it- 1 acre.

Now anyone with any sense at all knows that 1 acre of poppies isn’t worth anything near a half a billion dollars. 90% of all the heroin production on Earth originates in Afghanistan which last year produced (according to CIA figures) 200,000 hectares, or half a million acres of poppies.

Do the math.

And then they let the guy out on bail. ON BAIL? and guess how much this half a billionaire had to come up with to get out? $4,500.

How does a piece like this get by the first fact checker? Are there editors working at Time or is this kind of fake news done intentionally? And what kind of judge would give a guy the kind of bail you get for a simple assault?

Incredible.

I thought poppies only grow in high altitude cold climates.

If they were so easy to propagate, wouldn’t we be hearing about local poppy growers busts, the same way we hear about weed growing busts? they bust weed growers for indoors and outdoors operations all the time, every state. I’ve only been on earth for 54 years, I have never heard of US poppy crops.

If someone thinks I am wrong, please, enlighten me with some knowledge, or links that would tell me otherwise.

now, if I can only find some good poppy seeds (he said to himself)

Go to the grocery store. You can buy all the poppy seeds you want. Poppy seed on your (((bagel))) is the same species. Hardscrabble, I think someone just got million and billion mixed up.

You mean it’s worth $500 billion? I’m seriously going to the grocery store for poppy seeds tomorrow.

Apparently you can buy the seeds to grow opium poppies, but you would probably get arrested if you did…………

“And what kind of judge would give a guy the kind of bail you get for a simple assault?”

A judge with a functioning bullshit detector. I wonder why he didn’t just dismiss the case with prejudice.

If they were opium poppies wouldn’t there be U.S. troops guarding them. Sounds like he was growing ornamental seeds for Burpee.

Just so we all have the facts.

Afghanistan’s timeline regarding poppy production.

Early 1980s – Soviet Rule – Little poppy production.
Late 1980s – Mid 1990s – Afghanistan “liberation” = Increase in poppy production to a major global producer level.
Mid 1990s – “Global War on Terror” = Taliban Rule = Burned poppy fields. Little to no poppy production.
“Global War on Terror” – Present = Largest poppy producer in the world.

Poppy production leads to opium production for those who do not know.

((WHO)) tried to kill China with opium during the ((Opium Wars))?

((WHO)) runs the ((global drug trade))?

Inquiring minds want to know!

On rare occasions I watch TV, like today. I saw a short ad featuring JFK purportedly repeating his “Ask not…” declaration of patriotism. The cornholers dubbed the video (you can hear the unnatural sound of Auto Tune) with a newer version that says:

Ask not, what America can do for you, but ask what together we can do…

It changes the words “your country” to ‘America’. It changes “what you can do for your country” to the bullshit above.

There it is – the selling of the idea that America is not your country, it belongs to the proletariat.
I wonder if they will ban “My Country ’tis Of Thee” or “This Land Is Your Land”?

This re-recording of history is the greater outrage. But who cares, right? When the boomers are gone, the history books will be burned and replaced with Andrew Anglin’s truth.

Both governments during the War Between the States encouraged people to grow opium poppies for the war effort. Poppies will grow almost anywhere.

Coca is the plant that prefers high altitude.

So you think that was a light bail? How about this story:

“Abdullah N. Alrifahe, 27, of Minneapolis, was charged with a gross misdemeanor for carrying a pistol in public without a permit.”

And why was he charged with only misdemeanor? Read the link and it will blow your mind…of course, this was in Minnesotistan:

Minneapolis: Muslims littering leads to discovery of their weapons arsenal and bomb-making equipment

They apparently updated the story because now it’s worth $500 million (with an M) and the dude is out on $45,000 bail (not $4,500).
Probably just due to sloppy reporting. That and sloppy editing with no regard for the English language seems to be more & more common.

The bail was 45K which means you only need 1/10 to post or $4,500. Seems like a ridiculously low amount of money for someone with a half billion in drugs and judging by the look of the guy, flight risk written all over him.

And I get sloppy reporting, but this isn’t the local gazette, it’s Time.

Something is wrong with the whole story and it’s like that with virtually EVERY news story. It seems less incompetent and more deliberate because of the lockstep nature and the frequency of the phenomenon.

The question is why.

Why – to create the impression that the tax we pay has some useful effect.
Most USA tax payers get absolutely nothing for the 35% or so of their incomes that is taken.
Want a test ? Let the taxpayer vote on what they’ll pay for, what wars to finance, which pests to feed.
Afte a few years of that we’d live in a very different country.

Still 500 million for one acre of land is far fetched. If that was case everybody around here would be growing poppies instead of weed.

I sometimes wonder if stories like this aren’t intentionally planted to see if anyone is paying attention. Sort of like the Polar Bears on the Ice Flows of Nova Scotia.

That damn Ford ad has just about convinced me never to buy another one! That malicious code that re-locates the page so that the ad is visible is so distracting that I think I’ll buy Japanese for the rest of my life!
