Justine Damond fatally shot through door of Minneapolis police car, sources say
A 40-year-old woman who family members said called 911 to report a possible assault in the alley behind her home Saturday night was fatally shot by a Minneapolis police officer.
The shooting happened at the end of the alley on W. 51st Street between Washburn and Xerxes avenues S. in the city’s Fulton neighborhood.
The woman, Justine Damond, from Sydney, Australia, and her fiancé lived in the 5000 block of Washburn.

THE LATEST: Officer heard loud noise before partner shot Justine Damond, BCA says
Three sources with knowledge of the incident said Sunday that two officers in one squad car, responding to the 911 call, pulled into the alley. Damond, in her pajamas, went to the driver’s side door and was talking to the driver. The officer in the passenger seat pulled his gun and shot Damond through the driver’s side door, sources said. No weapon was found at the scene.
“Two Minneapolis police officers responded to a 911 call of a possible assault just north of the 5100 block of Washburn Avenue S. just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday,” the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said in a news release. “At one point, an officer fired their weapon, fatally striking a woman.
“The BCA’s investigation is in its early stages. More information will be available once initial interviews with incident participants and any witnesses are complete. … The officers’ body cameras were not turned on at the time and the squad camera did not capture the incident. Investigators are attempting to determine whether any video of the incident exists.”

Authorities have not released the woman’s name, but it was confirmed by people at the scene.
Minneapolis police confirmed that the two officers involved are on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
The shooting was called “tragic” by Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges, who held a news conference about it at City Hall late Sunday afternoon, appearing with assistant Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo and Linea Palmisano, who represents the 13th Ward on the City Council.

“I am heartsick and deeply disturbed by the fatal officer-involved shooting that happened last night,” Hodges said.
“I know the neighborhood well,” said Hodges, who represented the area for eight years as a City Council member.
“We have few facts at this point,” she said. “I want to know more. I call on the BCA to share as much information with all of us as quickly as they can.
“I have questions about why the bodycams weren’t on,” she said.

Arradondo confirmed that the officer bodycam program is fully rolled out in Minneapolis but declined to say more about why there is no footage of the shooting.
Zach Damond, 22, whose father, Don, 50, was to be married to Justine in August, arrived at the scene with a close family friend about 11:30 a.m. Sunday. While the couple were not yet married, Justine referred to herself as Damond on her personal website. Her maiden name was Justine Ruszczyk.
“Basically, my mom’s dead because a police officer shot her for reasons I don’t know,” Zach Damond said, referring to Justine. “I demand answers. If anybody can help, just call police and demand answers. I’m so done with all this violence.”

Damond said Justine called police after she “heard a sound in the alley.”
He left the scene at noon Sunday to go to the airport to pick up his father, who had been on a business trip.
From her home in the middle of the block, Justine Damond would have had to walk a little more than 100 yards to get to the end of the alley.
There are three lights mounted on telephone poles along that route plus nine motion-detector lights on garages, and neighbors said the alley is well-lit at night.

A woman named Hannah, who came to the scene with Zach Damond and is a close family friend, said Justine was a “spiritual healer.” Hannah, 21, did not want her last name used for safety reasons.
“I don’t know what she was doing out,” Hannah said. “She’s such a kind woman. She took me in when I was in a tough situation and helped me with whatever I needed.
“They were just so in love,” Hannah said of Justine and Don Damond. “I’m just kind of in disbelief.”
At a community vigil in the neighborhood on Sunday night, about 50 friends and neighbors held hands in a semicircle around the spot where Damond fell, while another 200 or more people watched from the sidewalk and the street. Some sobbed.
“This woman was a beautiful light,” said Bethany Bradley of Women’s March Minnesota, who had been at the scene since Sunday morning. “She was loved. She should still be here.

Leslie Redmond of the Minneapolis NAACP said she and other members of the NAACP who attended “stand in solidarity with the family.”
Nekima Levy-Pounds, one of three mayoral candidates who attended, said, “I hope and pray this is a wake-up call for the community to stop being divided by race and socioeconomic status … for treating everybody with respect.”
Dustin Johnson and his wife, Roz, live across the street from Justine and Don Damond. They saw the flashing lights and walked over to see police trying to resuscitate Damond as she lay on the ground.
Johnson said he heard no gunshots.

Justine Damond’s website says she “originally trained as a veterinarian” and “has also studied and practiced yoga and meditation for over 17 years, is a qualified yoga instructor, a personal health and life coach and meditation teacher, embracing and teaching the neuro-scientific benefits of meditation.”
She attended high school in Sydney. The story of her death was front-page news in Australia.
Earlier Sunday, someone drew colorful chalk hearts on the driveway pad where Damond was shot, adding names of others, including Jamar Clark and Philando Castile, who were fatally shot by police. A few hours later, Hannah, an artist, added “Live in love not fear” to the drawings.
Hannah said there’s no way Damond would have had a gun. She often talked about how much better it was in Australia, where people aren’t allowed to have guns, Hannah said.

I agree with you mm. I once had someone break in my house while I was asleep. I got up, chambered a round in my 12 gauge and they high tailed it back out the window. When I called the cops all the stupid 911 operator cared about was my gun. I was trying to tell her what direction they were headed and what they looked liked and she kept asking about my gun. I slammed the phone down and hung up on her. Maybe 90 seconds later 2 squad cars roll up on my drive. They didn’t catch the little amish yutes of course. There is statistical evidence black police officers are more likely to shoot than white cops. Some of that is likely due to poorer quality recruits hired to meet racial quotas but it may also be due to the negro propensity to seek a violent solution to a problem more frequently than the non negro.
I recall the famous ‘Class of 1990’ of the Washington, D.C. police force. A large number of negro officers were recruited that year and run through the police academy. Many of these officers were soon shooting people, committing murders, abusing their authority and in general bringing disrepute to the entire Department. New Orleans had a similar problem.

After a Somali police officer in Minneapolis shot dead 40-year-old Australian Justine Damond in what appears to be a senseless murder, the Washington Post’s primary concern was to fret about “Islamophobia” and a “backlash” against the Somali community.
Yoga teacher Damond was gunned down by Somali-American police officer Mohamed Noor after she called the police to report a crime on Saturday night near her upscale Minneapolis home.
Details about the shooting are scarce because both officers involved in the incident claim they did not have their body cameras recording at the time.
Damond, who was set to marry her American fiance Don Damond next month, was in her pajamas talking to Noor’s colleague on the driver side of the police vehicle before Noor leaned over from the passenger side and shot Damond multiple times.
Noor was already under investigation for ‘violently’ forcing a woman to hospital and two other complaints had been made about him. He was previously celebrated as a poster child of multiculturalism after becoming the first Somali to join the Minnesota police force.
In an article entitled After Minneapolis officer in police shooting is named, Somali community braces for backlash, the Washington Post’s Katie Mettler prevaricates on issues of “Islamophobia and innuendo about terrorism” that the Somali community will face as a result of the shooting.
“Already, hateful posts criticizing Islam and sharia law are filling social media in response to the police shooting. Several far-right blogs featured sensational headlines that blamed the officer’s ethnicity for the deadly use of force,” writes Mettler.
Despite being under numerous different investigations, the Post pushes the narrative that Noor was a “role model” for multiculturalism and Muslim integration.
The tone of the piece is similar to those we see after every single terror attack in Europe, where worries about hurt feelings are placed above concerns about people literally being blown up by Islamic terrorists.
The primary concern here should be to immediately suspend Noor while an investigation into the shooting takes place, not mean tweets and criticism of Islam on social media.
The very fact that the Washington Post would choose to highlight this front and center illustrates how hysteria over political correctness is clouding rationality and preventing society from tackling the root causes of violence.

American “law enforcement” has degenerated into a system where police can issue conflicting commands, demanding immediate response (many times conflicting commands from multiple officers) and can get away with murdering anyone if their demands are not met.
It seems that they are almost always “given a pass” even when circumstances of the use of deadly force are questionable.
Any police officer who cannot “disarm” a person holding a knife, rake or a stick without using “deadly force” should not be on the force…
If American “law enforcement” does not “clean up its act”, blowback will be the result, as those who are aggrieved who fight back will see only the uniform, and not the person wearing it, not unlike how many police officers view the public…

In today’s day and age, “officer safety” trumps de-escalation of force. This, in part, is due to the militarization of the police along with training in Israeli police tactics. This becomes a problem, with the “us vs. them” attitude that is fosters, along with the fact that Israel is a very different place, being on a constant “war footing”, its police tactics are very different.
There are too many instances of police being “given a pass”, even when incontrovertible video and audio evidence is presented. Grand juries, guided by police-friendly prosecutors, quite often refuse to charge those police officers who abuse their authority.
Police officers, who want to do the right thing, are quite often marginalized and put into harms way, by their own brethren…When a police officer is beating on someone that is already restrained while yelling, “stop resisting” THAT is but one reason police have a “bad name” in many instances…this makes the “good cops” who are standing around, witnessing their “brethren in blue” beating on a restrained suspect, culpable as well…

If you ask me, I think Justine Damond walked up on Officer Noor getting oral sex from his partner which explains why he shot her through the driver side window allegedly inches from his partner. The body cams were off because I guess they assumed that they wouldn’t be disturbed in a back alley. This is why neither officer is saying anything. I was blocked from Facebook for saying as such. I think that’s closer to the truth than many people are willing to admit!
