I agree with Lloph, those are not Dreamers. They’re indigenous and probably have some grounds for anger.
Snowflakes take note, there is no stopping the grind to sip lattes and enjoy control of resources. There are lines que’d up of competitors for ‘your’ resources, just because you do not want to play in NO way portends the game will not go on.
I have to admire the fighting spirit of the Native Americans, outgunned, outnumbered, severely behind in technology, they mostly fought bitterly until vanquished.

Fighting spirit of native americans?–What the F happened in the past century or so?
Fight to better your life
Fight to keep your kids off drugs and alcohol
Fight to adapt to the modern world
Fight obesity, poverty and illiteracy–and do these things while fighting to preserve your cultural heritage. Do this and I will call them fighters. Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life.
EVERYONE has some righteous, ancient bitching about some long-ago injustice against their progenitors. Nobody has a right to whine for generations on end as eternal victims. All races have been enslaved, all have been conquered, slaughtered and had innocents brutalized.
Fighters move forward, use past hardship and injustice to strengthen resolve, rebuild and rise again.

I did a big research project on the Zuni. There are some fascinating facts about the Zuni Peoples and their cosmogological myth (spelling is not right, but the word is right, all though it may be cosmogonical myth.) The Zuni characteristics/traits/genetic markers seem to track most directly to the Mongols in the furthest regions of Siberia , as in Russia, far south of the land bridge to Alaska. Their origin myth tells of ancestors climbing up from the center of the earth through fire, water, storm and other origin story motifs. If some of the evidence presented is true, then some prehistoric people from Third almost FOURTH World Mongolia came to the Americas over the sea and then tromped across Death Valley across Rocky Mountains and through a Grand Canyon to get to their little hidey hole in Arizona/New Mexico. Their “storyline” is that they were given the place by some of their interesting “gods” which are most closely aligned with the “gods” of the tribes of South America. If anyone remembers the whole Chariot of the Gods trend in Discovery Faction (the amazing idea that all of those drawings in the deserts o South America exist untouched by wind, rain or TIME) in the 1970s, you might also appreciate that the Zuni beat Disney by thousands of years with their anthropomorphing of animals into villains, gods and comedic sidekicks, like coyotes. I’m sure I had a point when I started this and I hope I made it.

Would other Indian tribes do that to the Crazy Horse monument ? I’m pretty sure that each tribe has historical animosity towards other tribes ?

“I’m pretty sure that each tribe has historical animosity towards other tribes?”

Absolutely correct.

How did the Sioux end up on the plains of the Dakotas and eastern Montana? Because the Chippewa kicked their asses out of Wisconsin and Minnesota. And what about the Apaches in Arizona? Because the Comanches kicked their asses out of Texas and Oklahoma. And whatever happened to the “lost Anasazi tribe” which populated the Four Corners area of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah, which is currently where the Navajo Nation’s reservation is. I’ll give you a clue. Anasazi means “ancient enemy” in the Navajo language. Who were the scouts for Custer’s 7th Cavalry on the march to Little Bighorn? Crow Indians, who hated the soon-to-be victorious Sioux and Northern Cheyenne and had been fighting those tribes way before the massive migration west of the Mississippi began.

Indian tribes were beating on each other long before the arrival of the white man. Thus endeth today’s history lesson.

While I have sympathies to the treatment of the Indians by “our” government, they need to understand that they are in good company. The government has been oppressing and bullying people to their own ends for centuries. In fact, all governments do just that, it is their job.
However, there is no reason why Indians have to be drunks, ignorant, and basically a full on waste of human beings. The government may have contributed through the payment of “reparations” and then giving them reservations, however there is nothing stopping them from using those things to their advantage rather than just being lazy, and like the blacks of this country just saying “woh is us, we are discriminated against” and never accomplishing anything other than generational poverty and squalor.

Anon,
The federal government restricts what the Native Americans can do on their tribal lands. Some tribes only in the past few years have received “permission” to open casinos. They were expected to live on the land as they did centuries ago, yet they don’t have enough land to really do that. The government introduced “indoctrination” schools on the reservations. So their mindset it not quite right now. The government has also been providing the food for them since they won’t allow them to really do anything. A lot of bored people who are unable to work will turn to alcohol and drugs. And you can’t help but become obese on the food the government provides.
It’s hard to fault a people who have no choices, and with the government continuing to oppress them.
I don’t know if permission has to be received for a Native American to leave the reservation. But if you’re already poor, where do you go?

Llpoh
Llpoh

August 4, 2017 2:40 am

Vic – they can come and go at will. A lot of misconceptions out there. Casinos, for instance, are largely owned by whitey, as injuns do not have the capital to build them. Most tribes receive little or no money via casinos. Some tribes have no rez, as whitey got smart and instead of granting rezs, they gave each Indian a few acres, which was quickkly, lost to carpetbaggers and such. Which was the point of doing it that way, of course.

Indians do not receive free education or monthly checks. They do get medical care, by treaty, of a sort, until the money runs out half way through the year.

Many tribes were relocated to their current rez. Choctaw, for instance, were relocated to dustbowls that no whitey wanted, from their historic nice farmland, which, of course whitey did want.

Trying to live a semblance of their previous lifestyles on a piece of desert unfit for growing plant nor animal proved difficult, as you might imagine. For others, the loss of buffalo ended their way of life. Thanks, whitey.

White man has fucked up everything it has touched, in the end. Greece fell. Rome fell. The Dark ages came. Then the Renaissance came, and fell. France fell. UK fell. Germany and Prussia fell. The USSR fell. Spain fell, and is doing it again. Portugal ditto. The US fell (but has not had the good grace to fuly faceplant as yet – but it will happen.)

For all the hooting and hollering around here about the superior white race, it sure has made a mess of things time and again.

I guess in fairness, so has every other race. Whitey is overdue for a major face plant. This Fourth Turning is going to deliver a mighty lesson. Whitey ain’t gonna like it, either.

You are describing consolidation phases. As a businessman you understand the necessity of these patterns in order for any adaptation to a changing environment to happen. To focus on the necessary and natural death of a singular “organism” without paying appropriate attention to what was added during the life as well is a rather simplistic way to look at things.

“Give a sissy a gun & he will kill everything in sight. TR’s slaughter of the animals in the Badlands outdoes in spades the butcheries of that sissy of a later era, Ernest Hemingway. Elks, grizzly bears, blacktail bucks are killed joyously while a bear cub is shot, TR reports proudly, “clean through…from end to end (the Teddy bear was yet to be invented). “By Godfrey, but this is fun!” TR was still very much the prig, at least in speech: “He immortalized himself along the Little Missouri by calling to one of his cowboys, ‘Hasten forward quickly here!’ Years later he wrote: “There were all kinds of things of which I was afraid at first ranging from grizzly bears to ‘mean’ horses & gunfighters; but by acting as if I was not afraid I gradually ceased to be afraid.”

There is something strangely infantile in this obsession with dice-loaded physical courage when the only courage that matters in political or even “real” life is moral. Although TR was often reckless & always domineering in politics, he never showed much real courage, & despite some trust-busting, he never took on the great ring of corruption that ruled & rules in this republic. But then, he was born a part of it. At best, he was just a dude with the reform play. Fortunately, foreign affairs would bring him glory. As Lincoln was the Bismarck of the American states, Theodore Roosevelt was the Kaiser Wilhelm 2, a more fortunate & intelligent figure than the Kaiser but every bit as bellicose & conceited. Edith Wharton described with what pride TR showed her a photograph of himself & the Kaiser with the Kaiser’s inscription: “President Roosevelt shows the Emperor of Germany how to command an attack.”

I once asked Alice Longworth just why her father was such a war lover. She denied that he was. I quoted her father’s dictum: “No triumph of peace is quite as great as the supreme triumph of war.” A sentiment to be echoed by yet another sissy in the next generation: “Meglio un giorno da leone che cento anni da pecora.” “Oh, well,” she said, “that’s the way they all sounded in those days.” But they did not all sound that way. Certainly Theodore, Senior, would have been appalled, & I doubt if Eleanor really approved of Uncle Teddy’s warmongering.” ~ “Theodore Roosevelt: An American Sissy” – Gore Vidal

I just finished the John Adams series on HBO – it was well-done. The most striking impressions were that Jefferson was a staunch Libertarian, John Adams was by far the most boring/dull of all the founding fathers, Hamilton really was a prick, and Washington could have been king, emperor or any other monarch he might have wanted to be. The fact that he retired after two terms cements Washington’s place as the greatest patriot of all time.

My impressions were that Jefferson was far more radical than I thought and that Washington was one of the luckiest motherfuckers to ever walk the orb. I can think of a dozen instances where he should have died, going back to his days as a surveyor. I also thought Washington was a genuinely nice guy but not the brightest bulb on the tree.

Try reading James Thomas Flexner’s biography of Washington, Zara. He had an eighth-grade education and was up against folks like Adams (Harvard), Jefferson (William and Mary), Hamilton (King’s College, now Columbia), and Madison (Princeton). All of them deferred to Washington’s leadership and wisdom. No exceptions.

Does that sound like someone who was one of the luckiest motherfuckers on earth or not one of the brightest bulbs on the tree (your description)? Not in my book.

I’m sure many of you who have followed this thread have noted that Llpoh has commented often. Probably most of you know that Llpoh had a very impoverished childhood, is a member of the Choctaw Indian tribe, graduated from Dartmouth University, and became a successful businessman.

He certainly knows much more about the USG’s sordid history with American Indians than likely all of us here put together . And there is one event and one president that sticks in his craw more than anything, and that is The Trail of Tears and Andrew Jackson. I’m with him 100% on that viewpoint because Jackson did consider all Indians sub-human savages and was the architect of a policy (The Trail of Tears) that became the closest thing to genocide in all of American history. Thousands of members of southeastern Indian tribes, including Choctaws, died on a forced, at gunpoint, march from their homeland to the Oklahoma territory. And it continued under President Martin Van Buren, who was the vice president under Jackson.

As with institutional slavery, we cannot undo the past. Llpoh knows that and just throws in snark and sarcasm at some of the less enlightened comments above. You’re lucky he didn’t get REALLY pissed. It would have resulted in “counting coup.” Look it up.
