INTO THE BELLY OF THE BEAST

Now that we are empty nesters there is nothing to stop us from doing things on the spur of the moment. When you get a second lease on life, you need to use it. We both took off Thursday and Friday and planned to use our condo in Wildwood for the 1st time all summer, but we ended up getting last minute renters. So we had to change plans. We decided on one night in NYC.

We cruised 50 minutes to Hamilton Station and caught the 9:27 NJT to Penn Station. We were walking the streets of NYC by 10:45. Our Comfort Inn doesn’t allow check-in until 3:00 pm, so we dropped off our bags and began our day of walking around.

We hadn’t had breakfast, so we were hungry. We decided 11:00 am wasn’t too early for lunch, so we headed to one of our favorite pubs on restaurant row – Bourbon Street Bar & Grill. The weather was perfect so we got a table outside so we could people watch.

Then we wondered whether it was too early for a beer and decided no it was not. We ordered two tasty Abita Ambers.

Selfies aren’t our specialty, but here we are waiting for our burgers.

Now the real question. What is more likely to kill Admin, an 18 wheeler or this Triple B Bourbon Street burger? If you think there is no way he could finish that, you’d be wrong.

We then proceeded to spend the next three hours walking the food and beer off. We walked from 44th and 8th to 70th and 5th in Central Park and back. We are now resting up for about an hour and will grab some dinner before attending the uplifting Broadway show – 1984. I’m a glutton for punishment. I loved the book and the movie. I’m sure I’ll love the play too. I hear it has a happy ending.

After the play we’ll probably go to some fancy rooftop bar for the cool views and a beer or two. Then we’ll end up in our favorite Irish pub two blocks from our hotel. Tomorrow will be the 9/11 museum and more walking around. Posts will be intermittent and spotty until Saturday.

Did you mean second leash on life, you old dog? Enjoy yourselves. Are you wearing your MAGA hat?

Sure 1984 had a happy ending, just ask Hillary, Soros, or Obama.

Funny, I was thinking the same about 1984’s ending. Whether it is ‘happy’ or not depends entirely on one’s perspective on life. There are millions of Americans out there rioting and attacking others whose desired endgame is something eerily similar to 1984.

Have fun, brother. I went there once when I was a teenager, I don’t remember much except that i didn’t like it and don’t care to go back.

Stay away from Broadway, you idiots. Politics is downstream from culture.

Brought back great memories. The 30th street station train ride (or Trenton if the traffic bad) for a weekend’s entertainment and world class meals in Gotham. Back when we actually had money to waste (i.e. before kids).

Enjoy.

In the good old days, when little kids ate all of their food, their parents said “good eater” to them (like “good boy” to a dog). Think of all the starving children in China. I don’t see why it should be any different now. You’re a good eater. Also a good drinker.

When I worked in China in the early 90s my interpreter’s understanding of the reason children were taught to eat all their food was to starve Chinese people! I had to explain to him that in America children were being taught not to waste food because there were people starving in China.

Have a great time but remember to stay alert . Situation awareness is a good habit to develop especially in the city.

And here I am on a Thursday night, sitting in my room at the Doubletree by Hilton, Philadephia Airport. Tomorrow I fly back to DFW. I don’t think the hurricane is going to get that far north. Houston may be fucked because of rain…it’s only like 10′ above sea level. We’ll see.

PS, Fuck getting through Philly at 5 PM. Next time I think I’ll fly into Syracuse and drive south to Pittston. I missed the 30 blocks, but I did catch a bit of Darby cause I had to get off the freeway to take a piss.

NYC.
There is a lot to see, but not for me. Been there, done that, when I had no choice.
Now I do.

9/11 museum LOL. I wonder if they will have the undamaged passports of the highjackers on display.
