When every Barney Fife Mayberry BFD sherrifs or police department is in competition for homeland security money you can bet every asset that they think they can force you to forfeit the badge wearing just doing my job bunch will come up with a reason they all need automatic weapons and an Intercontinental Ballistic Winniebago Crisis Command Center that would put any rock star tour bus to shame at an astronomical cost . After all when seconds count they will be there in minutes .
Yes I know generally response times are good but the militarization of local police and sheriffs departments are over the top and a real swat needs to be slapped upon the budget appropriations and requests . Besides like in most scenes where the swat equipment should be used the police are ordered to stand down and watch . Fergeuson , Baltimore , rock throwing fire starting animals looting , shoot those pieces of shit or stay the fuck home . A good start would probably be with the government official giving the order for that blue line to stand and be targets oh and fuck Al Sharpton too !

Originally developed in 1966 by LAPD’s chief Daryl Gates, “SWAT” was supposed to stand for the “Special Weapons Attack Team”. Even in 1966 that wouldn’t fly, so it was changed to today’s version, “Special Weapons and Tactics”. An excellent account of SWAT history can be found here:

I was at my mom’s earlier this evening and scanned her paper.
Plant City is a small town of just a few thousand about 20/25 miles east of Tampa.
Very little serious crime and anything major can easily be handled by the Hillsborough County(Tampa) Sheriff’s Dept,or even the Tampa PD if serious enough and the sheriff can’t do it.
So what did the paper say?
The town is buying an armored vehicle.
Huh?

The first photo is the St Ann Mo PD. I grew up there in the 1970s and 80s. Back then it was a middle class white suburb next to the airport. Most people worked the assembly line at the nearby Ford plant. I didn’t even know we had a SWAT Team. I guess being just across I-70 from Ferguson we needed it. It’s so bad now my sis-in-law who’s a principal of a school there told me they had to install washers and dryers because the kids show up absolutely filthy. I never plan to return.
